Brilliant! It's an MP3 player and FM radio all by itself too!

Hope its not too big and if they could have the radio function at the same time while connected to the phone and pause during calls that would be great.

It is not big and the older MW600 (60mm long and 16gr weight ...this one looks thinner wider and shorter) could do all you write/want so this one will do it too!
will get me one when it is out.

I am talking about when you switch to radio on the MW600 it disconnects the bluetooth connection with the phone. I really wish they could come up with a way to keep the bluetooth connected while the radio plays.

As for the size judging from the picture on page it seems a little big and I have no problems with my MW600 so will stay where I am.

Let us see what it is like when it comes out.

its should be considerably wider than the mw600 but looks slimmer.. it holds a room for micro SD so the size is obvious..
anyway if its cheaper i may consider this one..

It Does not disconnect!

I have just tried my MW600 listening to its build in radio ...and then I called my self with landline to my mobile ... the radio did not stop playing but it did bip that I have a call and when answered the call with the button on the headset radio stoped and I just could talk! .... bluetooth works with radio and also when connecte to pc.
What phone do you use?

I can confirm what pt020 said. My MW600 does not disconnect either when using the radio.

Currently MW600 can be bought for around 28 EUR in Sweden. Doubt this one will be cheaper than that. Its more likely this one will be around 55-60 EUR I would guess (think that was the initial price for MW600).

Hi, guys sorry, my mistake with that one. It does not disconnect. Wow! It took me more than a year to realise that. Anyway, back on topic. My main beef with this new one would be size and as long as that is okay and the price is similar I might get one.

Posted by Arne Anka
Its both shorter and thinner than MW600. Its only the with wehere it looses by 1 cm (1.5 vs. 2.5 cm). Overall, the size is comparable with MW600 it seems.

Latest info states around week 20-21 (mid/end of May).

Posted by NightBlade
I hope it does come out soon (i.e. before I leave the UK at the end of this month). I've got an unused amazon voucher and an MW600 that doesn't want to connect to my XS. Plus, its clip is broken.

My clip is broken as well and I am fed up of just having the headset hanging around my shirt and neck.

Got it today and now it is charging
This was in the box

That is a lot of pieces. Did it also come with the 2gb microSD?

@ pt020

Would like to hear your views once you have had a chance to use this. It is definitely on my radar, and seeing that the box is full of goodies makes me even more excited.

How good are the phones?

Posted by skblakee
This is nice but I want to get some reviews plus the price does not pull me although if it is seen as worth it I will take it later. If I don't get the impression that it is worth the huge increase over the mw600 then I will buy another one of those.

There's a firmware upgrade for this headset, be sure to download software from PLAY store for free. Headset stutters before firmware upgrade.

Used it for few hours yesterday and today and my impressions are mixed.
If you want a headset with good sound and good headphones this one is for you ... but as much that I like to like it there are some things that I would do differently or not at all ..
First it's size ...

Even that it is shorter and thinner than the older MW600 it is much too wide and you feel it when you wear it.
Call button sits in a wrong place so you push on it also when you do not want to .. usb cover is not very handy too and even that the build quality is good this part feels bit cheap.(too much Xperia S look )
menu is loaded and it takes time to get used to but all works.
FM radio is very bad ...the sound is like an old mono radio, the MW600 had much better tuner.
MP3 player works good and have song and time info and you can even ffw fbw music on both players but still the sound from the phone's player is better because the bt set does not have an EQ or any other sound settings.
Headphones are one of the best in ear I ever had but strangely when I connect them to the mw600 they do not sound as good, also the flat cable I do not realy like ... it is harder than normal cable and it disturbs more
but the cable is also bit longer,so it is a +..

you get notifications from all apps and it even reads your messages but for me it is useless because I can see it also on my watch.
Battery is new so I must recharge it few times more ... first charge was not so positive ... it stopped after +/- 4h . (mw600 8-9h)

If you already have the MW600 and you do not look for all the notificatios thing you do not need it ... but headphones and set have a very good sound quality and deepper bass with less distortion with high volume.

I did it and I do not have any problems with the set,all works.

my pleasure

Compared few in ear headphone I have to the originals that come with the wireless headset pro
(from left to right)
1.Sony wireless headset pro
2. SE HPM 77
3 Sony MDR 71 ex -sl
4. SE HPM 70
5. SE HPM 78
6. In ear Dre Beats

(First in the list have the the best sound last worst)
The Dre Beats are so bad that I used them once for 5 minutes .
The best headphones I have are not in ear and cost more but have a realy good sound

All in all the HPM-77 is the best compromise between sound and comfort (if you can not afford the Bose) and they cost only 15€!

Nice collection you have there @pt020.

Have you installed any additional apps on the Wireless Headset Pro? How well does it work with non-SE devices?

Thank you .
I did instal these apps

but ... I did turn the apps off because they disturbed me with listening to music (it stops the music for 1/10sec to let you know you have a message)
I also have the watch so I do not need it.

@Geezay: I'm using it with an SGS3 and it works great.

Hi guys,
Any road testing news on how long the smart pro battery lasts compared to the mw600?
I'm debating which one to buy. I don't even have an android phone, so I wouldn't be able to use most of the functions, but I want one to turn my new super cans into wireless BTs to use with my iPad. The micro SD card is v tempting, as I could attach it to my headphones and have an one piece music playing (slightly cyborg looking) phone calling headset!
(Better than the DIY option I saw on instructables, which is fully cyborg and would involve chopping and soldering the detachable 3.5mm cable, and Bose is so expensive that the cable alone costs the same as the mw600 does on amazon!)

but if the battery doesn't last as long or longer than the mw600, for the MASSIVE price increase I think I'd be better off sticking with the cheapo mw600.
Although I have heard great things about the smart pro bundled earbuds elsewhere too, apparently they are they same ones Sony retail alone for £60...

Also, on a side note- anybody think there's a real noticeable sound difference (for a non audiophile!) using a headset with APT x? I listen to more podcasts and movies than music, so I guess I'd care more about sound stuttering or breaking up than dynamic range. Especially since I'm not even what that IS!

Thanks for any answers

Hi there
Battery life is not as good as the MW600 ... far from it.
it happened to me that it was empty after 3h or even less ..with the MW600 it is good for 8h +..
The only reason to buy the smart headset will be it's sound quality that is bit better in high volume.
Also the MP3 player on it is useless because the player on the phone sounds much better and FM radio is really bad compare to the MW600.

Posted by skblakee
I have decided that this isn't a good upgrade at least not for me. I am going to get a new mw600 and stick with that.

Just a quick question for those that have this headset. Can you still use it while it's charging? TIA!

Hi!

Does the Sony Smart Wireless Headset pro display only in Alphabet?

I am wondering if it can display information in text messages, music etc in Japanese.

If anyone has one, and will let me send them a test text message, please pm me your number!

Posted by ofiaich
bump!

Nobody with one of these? I guess I need to ask Sony!!

Ofiaich

Posted by hihihans
If it has a normal display it should produce japanese characters.

Posted by ofiaich
Hi hihihans!

Have you got one? I ordered mine from the UK last night and just received email to say it's being dispatched from the Czech Republic!

Ofiaich

Posted by hihihans
No I don't have one but I do have Japanese music and titels are displayed on my phone so why not on the headset.

Posted by ofiaich
Hi again,

I wonder what Japanese music you like

- solved now.... see here for information

There is a link in the XDA thread for the Japanese Sony site and also for Japanese fonts that need to be installed on the unit. I think non Japanese units need the fonts and also needed if someone accidentally deleted fonts!

Hope mine arrives soon!

The headset shows what the phone is capable of ... so if your phone reads and writes Japanese characters the headset will show it too.

Posted by ofiaich
OK..

From what I read on the Japanese Sony site, the fonts need to be on the unit's memory card.

I will confirm all when it arrives. It is being sent from the Czech Republic and is now in Leipzig Germany!
