Nice view but not nice quality.

Reason for edit: I was blind.

Nice? There awful Not a reflection on Masseur's photography but can you not see the amount of noise on a daylight shot

Posted by AntonioX
Well maybe it will get better with a software update as apple do fix bugs in the updates unlike SE and the Satio!!

Posted by Miss UK
My X6 can shoot better then some of those

Posted by AntonioX
Miss uk ur X6 is better than my Satio also so.....

Posted by AbuBasim
The noise is there because none of the iPhones apply much of post processing on the photos. The result is very close to what the sensor captures. Better this than some other camphones with their aggressive noise reduction and over-done sharpening making photos look like oil paintings.

One advantage with this is so that you have the actual raw material to work with when you install any of the 2492 photography apps available in the app store...

Posted by buntoo
@masseur,
Too much noise in the snaps especially if you look at the clouds.

Stupid Post of the Day..!

Posted by phonecrzy
Ugh rubbish... even my wrecked X6 can do better shots than that

Posted by masseur
giving it another go...

full size via here

some video, though actually it looks much better on my pc (crystal clear) even though I chose not to change/compress/resize anything during the upload

Posted by AntonioX

@buntoo do you even own a satio with all its problems, and a X6 runs 10x faster than a satio.

Masseur that one does look better, but not as good as what apple has shown us, I'll take some soon with mine and see.

@masseur, i dunno whats wrong, but your photo is not loading at all..
Played the video. Its good though

@AntonioX, Nope i dont own it coz i dont like symbian platform, but i've played with it & X6 many times and i think its better than x6. Capacitive screen is the only advantage of X6 over satio.

p.s. Plz dont mind my previous comment. Sorry for that!

@buntoo well try using one for a few days and you will see how bad it is then, and what about kenetic scrolling
and less bugs! mate dont worry about ur comment its all good
the bad news is I dont have any thing good to take a picture of to test my iPhone 4 with

That's not much better Sorry but I think it's a poor camera & there is more noise in that photo than an Iron Maiden concert Video is good much better

last time I saw this on my mobile so I didn't saw the actual quality of the pictures. Not so good as apple post some demo pic earlier.

Surely software can't correct hardware too much, starting too look a bit rushed to me.

Posted by Bonovox
It looks like VGA quality Terrible but I guess photography is not what the iphone is all about.

Posted by masseur
I already thought the iOS 4 was a bit rushed though actually the preinstalled version on my iPhone 4 actually runs successfully the couple of apps that crash on my 3GS with the GM release which actually has the same version number... so thats a bit confusing!

btw, my photo examples are just quick snaps without much thought, so don't take these as prime examples... although in reality, a camera phone should be able to be whipped out at a moments notice so in some ways they can be respresentative

The videos are defintly better than the stills, which in itself is unusual!
I've downloaded the iMovie app and will be playing with that over the weekend

Do some from the dizzy heights from your work place. Place it on stable surface with decent light looking out into London See what it looks like in sunshine too. Have you tried the LED flash?

Just a couple i took today... nothing special. I hardly ever put them on my pc and only use the phone camera to catch spare of the moment snaps. Anyone who thinks they can use a mobile phone for proper photo's needs to get a reality check and buy a proper camera!

Compare masseur's full size garden shot using the iPhone 4 with your garden shot using an SE Elm:

To me the iPhone 4 seems to handle details better. Compare the wooden fence in both shots. The Elm takes out some detail due to noise reduction. The color tone is different. Masseur's shot seems to have been taken on an overcast day, whereas bonovox' shot was taken in a little more light (hint: overexposed flowers in the foreground).

I think masseur did a mistake posting full size photos. Most people here are not 'pixel peppers' and don't care about panning and zooming while looking at photos. (I promise to not do the same myself from now on. )

And Apple were clever not to post sample photos taken in less than perfect light as masseur did here. Speaking of which, I'd say the same about Nokia's coming fancycamera, the N8. We'll see how good (or bad!) that phone really is only when camphone reviews and users start posting their own photos taken with it.

No if you see pictures looking like that full size its awful sorry. And your comparison was daft the Elm has much better details. All I see is noise and poor details not much sharpness. Also the bottom left of the garden shot is over exposed with a touch of purple fringing

Posted by mriley
@masseur & voda john
Could you upload pics @1024 x 765 resolution?

The 3GS photos weren't that sharp either, I guess thats just Apple

Posted by jj03
i agree with bonovox. The elm takes better pics. For such a overpriced phone, the pics are quite poor.

Posted by AbuBasim
@bonovox,
Reading quickly I thought it was your Elm shot you were talking about and I was about to agree but then I read your post again. We all have different tastes and opinions. I prefer a camera to not apply too much post-processing. Elm does quite a bit of that. Look at the black edges around your over-exposed dandelions. That's excessive sharpening.
The N6700 shots you were posting before were much better than from the Elm and better than the iPhone 4.

@mriley,
Agreed but most people don't usually see the full photos and when printed at typical sizes (for example 4x6"), the noise you see at full size will not be apparent. So no need for waxwork.

I also feel a bit disappointed with the iPhone 4 camera. Definitely noisier than the 3GS's camera.

One guy on Flickr posted a comparison here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mattbuchanan/sets/72157624228235507/

I think I am going to stay off this thread now before all iphone 4 fans start throwing things at me Bye

Posted by AbuBasim
I don't think you need to worry about that. I do agree with you - partly. Not that the Elm is better. But your previous Nokia 6700 was better than the iPhone 4. Very nice shots. Low noise AND very mild NR. Why didn't you keep it?

Posted by Bonovox
Actually I never kept it cos you become sick of S40 UI But I change phone ALOT

Posted by AntonioX
hmm is this posting pictures thread from the iphone 4 or is it slating the iphone thread,
I mean there is like 4 or so pictures then every thing else is slating the pictures. no wounder why no one else is posting.
sorry but why dont you guys that's slating the phone make up ur own thread and call it how crap the iPhone 4 camera
is and go and post in there.....

Oh for gods sake chill out I already said I will stay off this thread cos I don't like it. Anyway what's a forum if you cannot disagree with anyone the world would be a boring place.

Posted by Indiandawg
am not kidding but it's full of noise.

Posted by AntonioX
I'm not talking about you leaving or disagreeing with things here I'm saying is there is not many pics and I dont think there
will be because every one is slating the pictures, I've got a few pics to post but I'm not going to now because they will just get slated so there is no point...

I think if you've made best effort to get a good pic its worth posting for critique. don't take the critique personally unless you've gone out of your way to take a bad pic in bad light etc... the idea of these topics is to discuss the quality produced by each camera phone and hopefully improve technique etc.

I do think the iPhone 4 has potential, and I'm especially happy with the video to the point that this fantastic weekend (weather wise) I'm putting together some clips of family, dogs, bbq etc using the iMovie app to send to my mum back home in Oz... and thats something I haven't been interested in doing before.

Posted by jj03
i know the iphone is capable of taking better pics. Like masseur said, the snap was just a point and shoot. I'm sure some adjustments will produce better quality. Btw, where are all the iphone guys? I expected to see a flurry of pics in this thread. Was looking forward to seeing snaps in different lighting conditions.

Posted by phonecrzy
Only video is good on the iPhone 4 imo, tbh i think even the photo's on my K700i has better shots, ok maybe not K700i but K750i.

Macworld had a shootout on both photo and video quality between the iPhone 4, Motorola Droid X, HTC EVO 4G and Samsung Galaxy. According to them the iPhone beat the other camera phones. You can read it here:

http://www.macworld.com/artic[....]2010/06/iphonecameratests.html

Posted by voda_jon
Now that vie been using the phone for a bit I am finding the images a little poor IF I transfer them to my computer. BUT looking at them on the phone itself they look fantastic.

Now I tend not to look at them on computer screen as I use my dslr for taking really good pics so am happy with the quality lol.

I suppose its good if apple haven't applied lots of post processing as this leaves us room to touch up the pics a bit if we want.

c'mon the site is a mac site

Ars Technica also posted a full review of the iPhone 4 including its camera. Here's a comparison of how it performs in low light compared the older iPhones: from left to right 3G, 3GS and 4:

Sorry? Come again! Lol.

The iPhone 4 is far from a brick. I see U have used a sati which is about the same size as the iPhone and it's actually smaller than the 3GS which wsant exactly huge either.

Now back to the topic... Ppl are amazed at the screen quality when they see the pics I have taken.

Posted by AntonioX
Voda_jon...Can you not see that Zide is rite, it looks like a brick next to my Satio?

Posted by AntonioX
I was taking the piss my satio is fatter and has far worse bugs, I was wating for your negative post as always!

Posted by Bonovox
Jesus thanks

Posted by AntonioX
sorry just stating a fact and i'm not saying anything bad about you as I love your elm pics...
its a shame that someone like plankgatan dont have a iphone 4 as im sure he would take some very good pictures

Posted by masseur
can we get back to the topic of iphone 4 pics and videos please... especially as I would like to see what others can get out of their new device!
