BBC article

Supermarket giant Tesco has joined a growing number of UK firms offering Apple's popular iPhone.

A spokesperson for the firm said that it hoped to offer the phone "in time for Christmas".

Although Tesco has not revealed tariffs, the spokesperson said that its prices were "competitive".

Hope its tesco value price!!

Yeah good they might be the first to lower the price. Not. Have you seen the Tesco brochure? Man its so expensive all its electrical goods its crazy. Hardly any of the electrical goods are of decent value at all so i cant see it being much cheaper if at all. Even people like Argos i find expensive and not as cheap as people make out.

Posted by anonymuser
Should be good for the clubcard points..

Posted by julias
Bonovox absolutely right who ever said Tesco was cheap anyway? Electrical's are way over priced and even with the food you can get far cheaper deals in Morrisons or Asda

Lets see how they price the iphone now? but if its going to be on Tesco Mobile then i doubt i would be interested doesn't quite sit right for me iphone + Tesco Mobile

hhmmm Tesco use O2 as their transport so iphone + tesco isn't such a bad idea
and I could do with the club card points

Posted by julias
Won't do any good for iphone's image though

"Tesco Value iphone" comes to mind

hmmm

but I don't think this will do the iPhone any harm as it generally shuns convention

and anyway, doesn't Walmart and other similar shops now sell it in US?

i can just see the advert. Tesco shopping online well there's an App for that too Seriously though i have the Tesco brochure at home & its not cheap with its electrical goods at all though some phones are. The c510 is far more than anywhere else in Tesco

I have been checking regularly for a Tesco shopping app, but there isn't one yet (just so I can add those items into my wifes online order that I used to slip into the basket when we actually went to the shop together!)

Ocado do have one though so fingers crossed that tesco will develop one now.

masseur your probably right but for me Apple does have a certain brand image and its not like they sell Macs or any other Apple products in Tesco so it seems like a bit of a misfit for me that the iphone to be selling there but what do i know i could be wrong

Tesco are obviously moving up in the Mobile world because not long ago they never even offered 3G. Now they have a new data tariff too of £2 per week unlimited(not having that discussion)data

Posted by glorfingal
if it didn't have such a "dire" camera I would be sooooo tempted to an iPhone ......

Yeah, but Wallyworld sells the iPhone with an AT&T contract, while I think Tesco's going to sell one on their network, so there's a slight difference.

I have warmed to the iphone too but not on O2/Tesco Network(bad experience) I also just read in the paper yesterday of hackers targeting jailbroken iphones rendering them useless it was in The Metro paper

iPhone on Tesco mobile!?

my golly gosh....

Should be interesting though.. I work for Tesco mobile tech support so will see what I can find out

Posted by Bonovox
Really Reg? I never knew you worked for them

let's just hope that when Tesco say 'competitive' pricing, they don't mean exactly the same price.

Posted by fatreg
Not many people do Vox....

it's only PT.. the Cx annoy me greatly... stoopid isn't the word... although I don't actually work for Tesco mobile, I work for a large wireless informatics company...

lol i think it will be the same price to be honest. However i am sure everyone will get double club card points with the iphone with tesco as they are doing double points instore.

Normally in Tesco if you spend X amount you get £20 off a phone

Posted by mutleyboy
my mum works for Tesco so I will be able to get 10% off the price too as long as apple dont put in some silly rule about not allowing staff discount on it

which (proudly) I now get on my tocco lite after a complicated decision on what network to go on and tesco is the best network i have ever been on and I think a Tesco Mobile iPhone would be the greatest invention ever on payg.

But even they didn't, on the brighter side, if you put a tesco sim on a o2 phone it works, not sure about doing that with the iphone though, never done it before.

The limit for Tesco mobile data which i read on its website is pretty good. At £2 per week its 100mb per week(no discussions or arguments on this please)

Posted by fatreg
;)

I didn't show you this...

Posted by weirdwilli
Will it be offered on a £20 p/m contract or am I reading it wrong?

Posted by Bonovox
Oh my god now thats going to shake up the iphone market this is. Wonder how much it costs on pay as you go the handset

If it works one way, it must work the other . This means the network code is the same.

Posted by Bonovox
No it does'nt. If you put a Tesco sim in an O2 phone it works but an O2 sim in Tesco mobile does not i tried it

It shouldn't, both phones are locked to their relevant networks, in this case, Tesco Mobile and O2 UK.

Posted by Bonovox
I tried a Tesco sim in an old o2 phone & it worked

Posted by fatreg
The O2 ust have been unlocked then, or be old enough to have been bought before O2 had any MVNO running off them.

Posted by Bonovox
It was an old silver pay and go k800i which did not work with other sims

Posted by Daedalus85
I can confirm that Bonovox is correct, having done it for customers in the past.

Exactly the same thing happens with Virgin/T-Mobile. The MNVO always wins out, try it and see.

available on 14th December

pay monthly is a bit different and strange with 12 month/£20 tariff and 24 month/£60 tariff!

Posted by Bonovox
