Spare battery is expanding!

I have a spare W960i but after only 2 months or so, of no use, the battery has slightly expanded!

It's been left in the original packaging, in my wardrobe away from any heat (unless the hot summer didn't help?)

Nothing has leaked, though. The battery still fits but it's snug. Is it time to ditch that battery?

For the future, is it better to switch any spare phone on, every now and then?
