o2 payg inferior to o2 contract?

after getting my iphone 3gs yesterday I left the payg sim in there for the day until I could get home and synch all my stuff to it so that I could then switch my existing contract sim in there.

what I found is that for a large part of last night, the ability to make calls and data connections was very hit and miss and there was an hour or so period when I couldn't do either!

I began thinking the phone was faulty but after putting my contract sim in today, it hasn't and any issue at all

is O2 payg really somehow less reliable that contract?

Until this time last year, I was on PAYG for about 2 years on and off and throughout that time it worked perfectly for me?

Yes it is. Despite me recently returning to O2 nothing much has changed i still find it hit and miss too. I am not sure if it applies to other networks but because perhaps contract customers are paying line rental they get the better service i dont know i might be wrong. But i still find internet quite slow on O2 and sometimes calls drop or mms will fail. Dont know why it is but i never noticed this with any other network. Im not slagging them off as i used to. Maybe O2 is massively over subscribed.

I find that at least in my area.O2 contract is very hit and miss regarding its speed and connection.Vodafone being the worst. We even have masts for both networks 2 streets away but no voda signal unless we come out of the house and into the middle of the road.

Imo i find Orange network for internet very fast stable and reliable when i was with them never ever did i get any problems. Also they have the best signal where i live then O2 worst being 3. But with other networks i have not noticed any difference between contract or pre pay being any better or worse. Though i know on most networks some services are not available on pre pay like call waiting and such things. But you do get call waiting on Vodafone pre pay. 3UK i have read many complaints being the worst between contract and pre pay.

I've now stuck the o2 payg sim in my Nokia 5800 since this morning, replacing my old tmob web'n'walk and really... the difference is so noticeable... web is slow and intermittant.

Yes T Mobile were good for internet and speeds last time i was with them 3 years ago and coverage on 3G pretty good.

o2 payngo internet has ive said b4 is inferior in a number of ways. as ive said on numerous occasions. apart frm the internet speed being twice as fast on contract. streaming wont work on payngo. cant keep loggd in on some sites. and downloads cut out after 10mins

Yes i cant use my You Tube application on O2 as i did on Orange or Vodafone. Why though? I know O2 and all networks have to keep some sort of limit on usage but pay and go customers pay the same if not more for web bolt on as contract customers. So why just cos people pay line rental should they get better service when other people are paying the same. Not fair really. I know networks are making money from contracts but if pay and go customers are spending the money then surely its wrong to get 2nd best service.

I really think this question of if O2 contract customer's get better speed than O2 prepay customer's should be directed at O2. At least everyone will get a confirmed straight answer. Many factors could be affecting the speed on pay as you go on O2. However none of us will know, once we have contacted O2. So I suggest those who want to know, to contact O2, here is the link to the contact page:

http://service.o2.co.uk/IQ/sr[....]avigation-_-Footer-_-ContactO2

Once someone has got a confirmed answer, feel free to write it in this thread.

lol you ask payngo customer service why streaming wont work and youl get 5 different answers . youl get yes it does work. no it wont work. yes it will work but only frm o2,s wap site. same with the 10minute issue and the logging in issue. and pop3. in other words its a comple and utter waste of time discussin internet problems with the payngo customer service

might be true in regards to different answers Greggy. But to be honest with you, any company you tend to call these days, people will give you the answer that they know or feel is right. but the best thing to do, i say lets all of us just email O2 instead and see what answer we all get. The answer we all get similar the most will be the right answer. how about we do that lol.

Yeah then everyone post their answers on here. Despite recently going back to O2 i never had any of these problems or restrictions with other networks. Oh well.
