it is sad news for Motorola again for their mobile phone division.

and they only ship 19million in 2008 q4 according to this report? tht is bad.

especially when SE still looking fwd they can get same shipment number in q4 when comparing to q3.

That is bad news. A recovery seems a long way off too. SE's results are tomorrow.

No way, we can't have any more companies go. This is getting to a point of brink of death.

Moto can't go, without them phones wouldn't be what we know today, Moto put the first car radio on the moon and all sorts of things, let alone sweeping the board with the V3, sadly, they don't appear to be able to replicate the success of the V3, if they could they would be laughing, while I go along with their general thesis on phones I feel with the market as it is now they need to pull something out of the bag, I mean another V3, I don't think they will ever get back in to the smartphone field, Nokia, BB and Apple have that stitched up for the time being, but your average joe bloggs is still a prime candidate for a moto phone, sadly for moto it would need to be an all singing all dancing 10mp, wifi, gps, HSDPA that's as thin as the V3 with an overhauled OS (On a side note, I've no idea why people detest the moto OS, I quite like it and have never found it that hard to use?) as general consensus is that the moto OS slow, backwards and generally not helpful, if they could get back to their linux phones like the A780, that made huge waves in the mobile scene but sadly the phone never made it to mass market.

but wakey wakey moto, the mass market is out there for your taking!

Surely someone can take over as boss and pull things out of the ground for Motorola. Despite not much improvements Motorola did bring alot of new tech to the industry and some new ideas. For some reason they just gone off the boil. Maybe they will keep making the classic two way radios lol

Ye, I would love to see a successor to the Moto ROKR E6 which i think ran the same Linux platform as the A780.

Isnt freescale a subsidiary of Moto, and a lot of phones use Freescale CPUs i think. So thats one good thing for them

^ was, was acquired by Blackstone in late 06 for some obscene cost for a mirco chip company, about $16bil if my memory serves me correct.

Yeah we still use the old massive Motorola two way radios at work to contact security in the hotel!!!!! My fave Motorola I ever owned was one I had on 3UK in the early days. The E1000 I think it was it was actually quite a good phone though I did return it cos I did not like 3UK back then!!!!

Funny enough all the current MOTO Linux phones run on Freescale CPUs.
