I've got a 902, received today on Vodafone UK. I am seriously unimpressed with the photos, particularly as my last phone was a K850i.

My main gripes:

1) With the K850 I always found the Twilight Portrait the most useful mode (clubs and pubs etc), and I would then adjust the flash accordingly. This mode has been removed.

2) The flash (if you can call it that, SE do, but it's very weak) now only has two modes: AUTO and OFF. Everyone knows that for good photos AUTO functions are generally rubbish and this is no exception.

3) No more red laser thing. This really helped with knowing when to press the button the whole way down and also stabilised the shots. There is a slight blue glow but not as good. Then again I am colourblind...!

4) No more red eye reduction (red thing and two flashes).

The net result is poor photo quality. They may have jacked it up to 5mp but the photos from my old phone are much better.

I'll post a standard living room shot of my dog with each camera so you can tell:

K850i

C902

Mine is Vodafone and despite it being described in the instruction manual you cannot use the geographic tagging feature.

Having said all this I'll have to keep it as I want a cameraphone and I want a SE.

How sad that they chose form over function for the camera.

Posted by Rookwise
The red eye reduction mode has been removed due to the phone not having a xenon flash and also because of the face detection function which should adjust this automatically.

Have just finished debranding and setting up my O2 C902 and have taken a few pictures indoors on Auto settings.

The flash fired with this one.

the second pic is really nice.

Posted by Sebastian09
My phone takes good pictures in that kind of light but struggles in dim light. If you use the zoom at all it goes blurry even with the flash.

The inability to turn the flash on manually is my biggest issue.

That and having the geotags without the ability to use a map to see them, even though it says you can in the manual.

How did you de-brand yours?

Posted by Rookwise
Debranded mine with Davinci. Takes about 10mins to do.

Posted by Sebastian09
Tks. Which elements of the c902 improve with that debranding? Cheers.

Posted by plankgatan
i hope its not some hardware issue, it seems c902 have some kind of focus-problem that example SO905iCS have, (SO905iCS pics looks better, but it still have some focus-problems on quite many pics ive seen)

a new good optimized software will get the autofocus back on track maybe, or ???

There are a few advantages of debranding a phone. One is preferance as some dislike the modified menu's that operators put on.Also.It seems that update's come out for generic handsets sooner.Me I prefer to have my phones as the manufacturer intended it to be.I pay a network for use of their services. They don't pay me to advertise for them.

any chance of full size pics???.

Here's the one of the plant:

And a photo of part of our garden (again, in auto mode where it's done little to get the right colour balance):

At maximum size you can see they look AWFUL!! It's quite amazing that when resized the pictures can look fairly decent, but it makes me wonder why they bothered with a 5MP sensor! It's obvious why 3.2MP looks better!

@dcbastable

Nice shot - I miss London!!

Thanks for the London moment (^-^*)

So far, the C902's Camera seems to do an average job...not half bad - but not half good either...

The purple fringing is simply atrocious. Dare I say worse than the K850 - which was already horrible. But overall, the sharpness is great, as are the colors and exposure. And holy crap, are those real reds in those shots?! Not shabby at all considering the phones size.

Posted by se_dude
the phonedaily pics dont seem to have any purple fringing whatsoever..

but impressed with the pics produced by the phone..potential to become a sellout..

Posted by gavster001
i really like how vibrant the colors are. nice!

Got my C902 free from Orange UK yesterday... no branding at all, which was shocking!

Taken a few snaps with auto settings. So far I'm pleased with it, but not happy with the flash. Indoor shot below was taken without flash. But overall, much happier with the C902 than the K810 (except for the flash).

Nice Dude, Yes they are REDS!!!

WayHey!!

Just a quick picture I took today of my dog in the garden. All on auto just reduced the size as we already know that at full size they are not upto much.

I'm happy with it anyway

Nice shot, mobilelifer. The color looks good.

Posted by mobilelifer
Yeah I only ever use my phonecams for happy snapping and capture the moment shots anyway so I am happy with the outcome of this handset so far.

I have just uploaded the full size image to the gallery if anyone want to see that

Posted by mobilelifer
Just another quick shot I took today from a carpark. again everything on auto.

Something really stupid: I've had my K750i for over two years now, and the 1, 2 and 3 keys are broken, I can only move the joystick left or up, and to turn it off I have to take the battery out. All the time I've had it, I never thought to use the different white balance profiles.

Tonight, I just got back from seeing the Black Keys live, and I realised that putting it on fluorescent made the photos so much better! So I can't wait to get my C902 because either way I know I'll be getting much better photos out of it than my broken K750i.

PS. if you haven't already, check out the Black Keys. They're awesome.
