Hey Guys!
Sorry about the wait - I have been a bit busy lol!
Well, to begin, for those who don't know, the SO905iCS is Sony Ericsson Japan's (Herein referred to as SEMCJ) equivalent of our K850i. It is engineered and designed completely by Sony, rather than Ericsson (Unlike the K850i - Ericsson), and runs on a version of Symbian called MOAP.
The handset is built extremely well, and feels sturdy in the hand, with a smooth slick slide - the materials are matt finish and do not attract Fingerprints and the scroll wheel is very tactile, and easy to use. MicroSD, Charger and Headphone ports are coverd by metallic finish hinged doors, and the handset is made mainly from solid ABS plastic. For me, it feels very much like the S700i of years gone by, Build quality wise.
It works on the Symbian MOAP platform, which is a breeze to get used to, within a day or so - although nothing like UIQ or S60 or even A200.
With that in mind, it comes with 512mb built in memory, and an external MicroSD is purchased separately, (note also, the charger, USB cable and PHF is also separate, you only get the Handset, battery and back cover in the box, Japan's version of Nickel and Dimeing)! It uses the same accessories as the Sharp 903SH, so no problems getting these bits.
The large 2.7 inch screen is sharp and bright, and with Sony's BRAVIA RealityMAX Engine running to power the display, videos look amazing and sharp.
The Media player is Music only, and Video is played back through the 'i-motion' player - one downside is that it onlys supports WMA and AAC file formats, mp3 is not an option! Video is in .mp4 and .3gp, so again - no issues there. It is fast,a dn has no lag with sync'g if Video and Audio, unlike K850i.
There are lots of other 'Japan Only' features, such as Osaifu Keitai, Felicia and i-mode (no, o2's i-mode does not work) - plus, the GPS only works in Japan - which is a downside.
Of course - the most important feature is the Cyber-shot camera, which all in all is very impressive - although it leaves you wondering, why no Xenon Flash - as the 'PhotoFlash' LED is nothing short of Average...
Those of you who keep on insisting the C902's PhotoFlash is better than Xenon, we know Sony Ericsson are AMAZING, but come on - Xenon Flash is always going to deliver more punch than a LED Flash!
The Reds are RED and the colours are Punchy and Sharp - all in all very impressive.
A full review of the Camera will be posted with Sample images, showing PhotoFlash and 3x Optical Zoom...
Watch this space........

im little confused. ive been looking at quite many SO905iCS pics at Flickr.com and quite many looks little blurry, not bad either. maybe it needs a newer camera driver, i dont know.
does anyone know which kind of sensor it use ????
(i dont think it use IMX-018 like K850)
i think its only c902 who comes with the new photo flash. or does 905 also comes with the new photo flash ???
this i like

Well, So far, the camera has been great - I'll be posting a few pics here - the PhotoFlash LED is the same as the one on the C902 - very disappointing - Look forward to more on Shiho, or indeed the SO906iCS...
Posted by PeterKay
nice quality pics mate.
Posted by Sony α
@PK
Cheers Dude,
Its a Great phone, really - Outshines the K850i in all but a few places, namely, the Xenon Flash, XMB, Ease of Media transfer and BLUETOOTH!!!
Well, I look forward to SO906iCS, probably while im out there - after all, DoCoMo 90Xi Series only lasts a few months...before a refresh!
Posted by Sony α
@plankgatan
The SO905iCS uses a junior version of the Exmor Sensor found in the A700 DSLR by Sony...
http://sonyericsson.co.jp/pro[....]so905ics/high-performance.html
Oh yeah, I almost forgot guys...I have VGA @ 30fps in my SO905iCS (^-^*)
And Smile Shutter!!! Which works VERY well!!!
Posted by BobaFett
bit off topic: why do they call their mobiles on such a way like "SO905iCS" ?
is it a trend in japan? who can remember such a long model name? i mean n95 or w880 its easy to get.
Posted by Sony α
Ah yes - and not forgetting a 16.7 Million colour BRAVIAŽ Screen...
Its really starting to ooze features now!
Posted by BobaFett
dont really get it... if it has gps, how comes it works only in japan? isnt it like in n95?
Posted by Sony α
@Boba
Its because on the DoCoMo network, there is always a series of handsets, released regularly, such as 901i, 902i, 903i and so on - we are now at 905i and the CS standing for 'Cyber-shot'. Panasonic have their 'Viera' handset, the P905i like Sony Ericsson released the BRAVIAŽ SO903iTV two line ups back...
The SO stands for 'Sony' - and of course, the 905i for DoCoMo's naming convention - so its not really decided by Sony Ericsson - moreso DoCoMo who control the naming - and the features too!!

Its GPS, but only for Japan - God knows, ask Komiyama San lol!
Even my GeoTagging does not work...
I have contacted DoCoMo support for this, and will report back soon!

any 100% crop pics to be posted here to show us the 5mp detail of the phone? i believe SO905iCS beats K850's camera quality hands down with the exception of the night shots

Posted by bavlondon2
Phone looks great Sony G. At what res does it shoot video in as a maximum?
Posted by razec
^^ @bav:
In his first post on this second page he said VGA @ 30Fps

Posted by bavlondon2
Really TI 2430? I think thats the same one used in the Samsung i550.
Why the hell dont SE use that in Europe!!!!! FFS Nokia have been using TI for years now!
Posted by razec
^^ Yes indeed. i read it somewhere but i can't remember the site. and i assure you that site is authentic

Posted by bavlondon2
SE must seriously underestimate their customers in Europe. Either that or they are just too tight to implement such processors over here. Instead we are stuck with shoddy phones and the same UIQ for god knows how many years.
Posted by kimot01
nice review mate...anyway can you post a sample picture using the flash at complete darkness., around 2 meters distance from the object.,
Posted by bavlondon2
Also whats the build quality like?
Posted by razec
^^ We'll yet to see that thing mate

Im not so sure about that as even Nokia are not using that on their high end models. N96 uses ST Nomadik now which is ARM9 a major step back.
When is BeiBei meant to be announced anyway?
Posted by razec
BeiBei is said to be announced along with Paris. i don't know anything else besides

34xx series will be first implemented on Japan Phones particularly the S0905iCS successor

Posted by bavlondon2
The only performance difference between 2420 (what Nokia already use) and 2420 is 2430 is that there is 3D hardware acceleration on the former.

^^ Actually Both CPUs were embedded with a Graphics chip

Posted by bavlondon2
Actually I read its the other way round. I think it one of Eldars reviews.
Posted by razec
Eldar must read the whitepaper i think

Posted by bavlondon2
Freescale is no longer used apparantly.
Posted by razec
^^ freescale is no longer used in the latest n-series batch

i think were getting off topic already... lets get back to it

Hiya Guys!
Just got in and checking the thread - Got a few questions questions to be answered haven't we lol!
Well, just a quick one about Build Quality - its Bloody Good - better than our Non JPN phones, it feels solid in your hand and the slide is just beautiful it feels weighted as does the back 'Cyber-shot' cover - I'll post some more pics - in the mean time - The issue of Reds to Pink (Sorry guys, it was a real thorn in my side with my K850i) is not present in the 905i, in fact - colours look natural, yet the balance is just right between warm and cold - Reds dont look overprocessed and the 3x Optical Zoom, well - its cracking! Again, some nice sample shots taken today to show off the 'Cyber-shot' - lol, I was out shopping for some bits before I leave for JPN in BlueWater today, and the guys at Orange, Vodafone, o2 and CPW had some rave comments to make lol!
Haha - I just smiled when they said, 'Well, we DO have the K850i'...
Posted by goldenface
@Sony α
Thats right! Twist the knife why don't you - making us all jealous.

Posted by Miss UK
That phone wont work in the UK will it

whats the battery life like? and congrats on your foreign object lol
Posted by Sony α
@ goldenface
Haha, AND to make it that much more bearable. here are some sample shots for you all to enjoy!
No - I dont wear Lipstick lol - It was the right way to show the Reds problem hehe - although, its drew some looks from the hot assistant lol!
Nor do I wear Lingerie...
Well, it looked nice from afar, why not Zoom in using the Optical Zoom...
About 2cm away from the object...impressive Macro!!
And, coming soon, to a Thread near you - VGA@30fps, from the Sony Ericsson SO905iCS!!
Posted by Sony α
@Miss UK
Well, I got it working - albeit with a DoCoMo SIM lol - Thank you, congratulations are in order for your N95 maybe?
Well, not to sound like an absolute ass or anything - but this phone truly rocks, I mean in a G800 eating way!
For me - Sony Ericsson own the CameraPhone Field again!!!
Posted by bavlondon2
Thanks for the replies mate. If SE released this phone in Europe surley it could compete with the N95/N82 ect.....
Anyway im looking forward to seeing a video sample.
Thanks buddy
Posted by Sony α
@bavlondon2
Yep, fully agree - this would surely hold its own against the N95, and put up quite a fight to the N82, the K850i lags way behind!
I dont feel that even Samsung/Nokia loyalists would argue there - after all, Sony have the know how with Cameras in General, and I can feel them developing their Optics further for the K850i Successor - with an Exmor sensor - BT, and of course Xenon Flash - I think we have a new King of Camera Phones on the way, and this time - it wont be a shortlived reign...
Posted by bavlondon2
I think I speak for many when I say I hope your right haha
Posted by Sony α
Here you go Guys, some further pics of my SO905iCS (Shot with a Sony α100 DSLR, Zeiss Lens) -
The BRAVIA Screen @ 16.7 Million Colours!
Love the rear design!

Hey Guys,
Just wanted to let you all know, that any further 'Cyber-shot' discussions, up to and including JPN phones would be very welcome here...
