Ive a friend ive known since days of Secondary school and is forever changing her phone number (Silly Reasons) but I think she is giving her number to every "Tom, Dick or Harry" or it's some type of fetish she has,
I find it odd every 3-4months I get a text telling me
"This is my new Number"
it really is annoying why can't she stick to one like me ive had mine since 2000 or whenever it was when "BT Genie" arrived on the scene

BTW she refuses to give me her Landline number she says its for "Buisness" how strange is that

Is she upto to something I shouldn't know about ok well

How often and why do you people change your Numbers(s)

I didn't know about Porting Numbers back then you see

I've had my Aussie number for 12+ years.
Why? because its brilliant. I got it when GSM first came in
its 04xxxxabcd
where x is all the same digit and abcd is a sequential run of digits easy to remember.
I've had my UK mobile number for 10 years. its not as good as the aussie but still not bad
07771 xx yy xz
I've also had the same email address since 1994
can't see any reason to change
Posted by Miss UK
Masseur, I thought they changed the triple 777 so it became 77
My Number runs abit like 077XX 10 20 30 15

ive also had the same Email since I started college back in 1998 TALK21 lol

I changed mine 2 months ago bcos I found a gr8 number on a better network. It's like 7AAAAAA7 hehe where As are all the same. P.S: We can't migrate numbers between networks so if u wanna benefit from a better offer on the other network ur obliged to change ur number.

I can't remember how long it took for me to remember mine,
My pal's number is identical to mine appart from the last 2 Digits which are different we phoned up BT Genie (o2) at the same time to take contracts out lmao...
Why don't they let you port numbers in Lebanon?

God years ago i had 4 mobile contracts at once and i just had to always have the latest phone so i kept taking out new contracts and could not be bothered to take my number with me plus i heard that changing your number to another network can have its downsides such as connection problems when recieving calls. My sister in law has that problem when she transfered her number. Plus it was laziness. Then one day i paid off all contracts and will never do it again or get a contract again. Then when i went to pre pay i kept swapping again trying to find best value pre pay service. My friends and family got so irritated my brother had 7 numbers in his phone for me. Oh dear. Now for past 6 months i stuck with O2 pre pay and am happy. I used to change on average my number every 2 to 3 months. Silly really.

I've had my number for about 11 years. Way too much hassle to change it. I do get annoyed with people who text you every 6 months with a new number as well!

I once had a mobile number which was on Virgin Mobile and it ended with 666. I never kept that number for long as its THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST.

Had my number for nearly 7 years and i'll never ever change it unless i get offered a fortune for it lol. It is like this;
07754615461
The 077 then 4 numbers which are then repeated in the exact same sequence it is just too good to give up.

I used to change mine once every year because customers would inevitably get hold of it and call me with computer problems at stupid times of the night instead of leaving a message on the workshop's answer phone!
I haven't got the workshop now though so I just switch the mobile off and family and friends call me on the (ex-directory and highly secret) landline if it's an emergency.

I am guilty of changing my numbers about once a year but every number I get must at least 2 8's in it.
Posted by tranced
i've never changed it(my contract started on july 27th 05)

one number and one service provider since I started using cellphones... which was way back...
Posted by bulukaki
I don't change phone number(s) unless I really absolutely have to do it. during college I have to move to a new dormitory every summer session and by the time it ends I have to move back to my previous dorm but (THEY!!!) always put me in a different room, so my phone number was always changing.

my family (parents, grandparents, relatives) never changes phone since I can remember. I think everyone have the exact same landline numbers even before I was born! not sure about cellphones though hehehe

geez for a minute i thought you was talking about me when i first read the first post

my current number's been with me for the last four years already

Posted by scarlet_haze
this is my first time to keep a number for a year... contracts!
i used to just get a new prepaid sim every time my credits run out.
Posted by Lunion
i've had the same number for 6years, and i have no intention of changing it.
Posted by baconnugget
i keep the same number i even paid £150 to pay off my contract to keep the same number and also turned down a free contract from retentions
Posted by Tsepz_GP
Instead of always changing numbers i have my main Contract number which everyone who knows me has and its the one i give when i meet someone and then i have a Pre-paid sim which ONLY close friends and family have. Ive had both numbers for about 3years now, works fine for me.
Posted by Alpha Trion
I've only had two numbers (since going on contract). The first i had for 6years and then the number i've got now.
Although i got a very good deal at the time by changing networks, It suprised me, outside friends & family etc how many other people i realised i would have to notify at the time (bank, work etc) Only now am i managing to remember it and not blurt out my old number when asked! So for that reason alone i would pull out all the stops to avoid changing/porting again.
On the note of unusual/cool numbers, a lad i knew at collage (a good few years ago now) had his number as 0****AAACCC and was always getting asked how much he'd sell that for.
Posted by KCC4
i've had quite a few numbers but... ive stuck with this one now... so im okay....

Posted by DP-77
Had mine about 10-11 years 07802******
Posted by max_wedge
I've kept mine as long as possible. I've had 5 numbers in 12 years (going back to Analog), but I've had my current number for the last 7 years. I had the number before that for 3 years, but when I changed networks they wouldn't let me keep my number (going from prepaid to a plan). Since then Australian govt. legislated for number portability, meaning networks now are obliged to port your old number to new accounts. This was to encourage competition, as networks were using the refusal to port numbers as a means of keeping customers on their own networks.
Posted by whizkidd
Yes, with number portability you have the option to stick to the same number irrespective of the network you choose. Quite a good idea. It will be introduced here in India by the beginning of the next year. As for me, I am using the same number since I had a mobilephone and it ends with 007

Posted by Twometre
I think people who interchange numbers lack an element of honesty.

Well that might be true, but lets not generalise. To say that people who frequently change numbers lack "honesty" will be a tad over the top. There must be folks who genuinely have reasons to change numbers. For some, they might simply get bored with the same numbers??

Posted by Twometre
I agree with you @whizkid. Take for instance me, I have a busness and a personal number. In short I support the idear of genuin reasons
Posted by jemuel
my first two numbers only lasted for less than a year. after that i've finally settled on my latest mumber and having it for three years. in fact i've had three phones that used that number(hopefully it'd come to four soon) and have no intent of changing it since this network has the cheapest data plan, charging per half hour instead of KBs.
EDIT:We can't port numbers as networks here have the rights to their respective codes. eg. smart has the right to have: +63919 - +63921, globe has the right over: +63917 - i'm not sure.
