Finally!!!
A COREPLAYER MOBILE SYMBIAN DEMO ON THE N80 HERE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQxX-DAkn4E
After 2 years of hard work we are proud to announce that CorePlayer Mobile v1.1 is launching for the various Symbian operating systems on Wednesday August 29th, 2007. Let it be known that Symbian users will no longer have to suffer from poor multimedia playback!!
Spread the word! Blogs, Forums, Emails... and now a few CorePlayer Mobile for Symbian FAQ's.
Q: What Symbian OS's will the initial release support?
A: S60, S60 v3, UIQ, UIQ v3
Q: What Symbian versions will be added later?
A: S80, S90
Q: What features will be missing compared to CE and Palm?
A: Nothing, however the S60 v3 and UIQ v3 will not have file associations till we add digial signing.
Q: Will we support the S60 v1.0 (nGage).
A: No (even though it already supports it). We feel with the nGage's processing limitations is not really worth releasing CorePlayer Mobile for. But lets see if the community demands it... if so then sure, we will release it

Q: Will the installer be digitally signed?
A: No, not for the first few releases. We plan however to digitally sign each milestone release starting with 1.2.x
Q: Is the symbian player stable?
A: With 2 years of development, hell yes!! However we like trends... so we will call it CorePlayer Mobile v1.1 for Symbian "BETA"

Q: How often will you release Symbian updates?
A: Initially as often as needed. As with our other platforms when they first launched we expect a few releases initially to get the platform on par with our others. All purchasers will be notified by email on download availability of any update.
Q: Where can I buy CorePlayer Mobile for Symbian?
A: Starting on the 29th you can buy it at http://www.CorePlayer.com
Q: How much will it CorePlayer Mobile for Symbian cost?
A: Unlike our CE/Palm platforms (at $24.95) it will cost $29.95. However for the first few weeks we sell it at an introductory price of $24.95
Q: How is CorePlayer Mobile licensed?
A: It is linked to each user as well as that users IMEI code on the Symbian phone (plus the installer). In other words the .SIS installer you download will only work with the IMEI code given at the time of purchase for your phones hardware IMEI.
Q: Will the SIS installer work on another phone with another IMEI?
A: No, unlike a standard installer each CorePlayer Mobile for Symbian installer is 'uniquely' created JIT (Just in Time) during the purchase process for the user with his/her IMEI hardware code as well as the devices Symbian operating system.
Q: How do I find what my hardware IMEI code is on my device?
A: Type *#06# and the serial number (i.e. the IMEI code) of the phone will be displayed on the screen.
Q: Can I transfer CorePlayer Mobile for Symbian to a new phone?
A: More info on this later
Q: Will CorePlayer Mobile for Symbian support streaming?
A: The installer will prompt you to add network support to allow access for streaming. However note that we will only support standard HTTP/UDP streaming till our advanced streaming components (RTP/RTSP/RDP) will be added in a v1.2.x milestone release.
Q: What audio, video, images and container formats will CorePlayer Mobile for Symbian support?
A1:AUDIO: MP3, MP2, AAC, H.263, WAV, OGG, Speex, WAVPACK, FLAC, MPC, TTA, AMR, ADPCM, ALaw, MuLaw, Midi
A2:VIDEO: H.264 (CoreAVC), MPEG-1, MPEG-4 part 2 (ASP), DivX, XviD, Theora, Dirac, VP3, MJPEG, NRE, MSVIDEO1, and FLV*
A3:IMAGES: JPEG, BMP, GIF, PNG (no progressive JPEG support)
A4:CONTAINERS: Matroska, TS, PS, 3GPP, MOV, AVI, MPEG-4, NSV (is supported but not the formats within the container)
*The FLV container for Flash video is supported in teh CorePlayer platform however not available in our consumer editions and only available to OEM's (if they have a Flash license from Adobe).
Q: Does CorePlayer Mobile for Symbian support Windows Media (WMA and WMV)?
A: We are gonna keep you guessing on that til it launches

Q: Will CorePlayer Mobile for Symbian support GPU acceleration?
A: Yes, (eventually) in platforms that support it like the N95.
Q: Will CorePlayer Mobile for Symbian support UPNP?
A: Yes, but not for the first couple of releases. We plan on releasing it with 1.2.x
More info to follow in this post in a few hours/days.

wahoo, this is what I've been waiting for...
you can bet I will be giving this a work out!
Posted by malbry
The H264 playback sounds good. But no signing means that users will have to adjust the backlight settings every time. I'll stick to the in-built video player until they put it through Symbian Signed.
Best regards,
Malcolm

1. Will the backlight work with this unsigned Core Player or will the backlight go off when a video play (SE P1i)?
2. Will it be possible to watch movies in Landscape on a P1i ?
As they is no possibility to try the software without buying, this two questions are very important for me...
Posted by ares
1 - first versions will be unsigned, so, you have to change backlight manualy, like with divx player
2 - yes, of course

Q: Will updates cost me anything?
A: No, all 1.xx updates are free.

ok just bought it... looks good..
Just ripped a DVD with MacTheRipper, then convertet into H.264 with Handbrake and it plays very good.
Only problems that the Backlight will turn off and the phone will look after 2 Minutes (As in my settings) This should be really be solved in the next version...

I'm just a bit hesitant to pay this price to be a beta tester. Ok so its had 2 years in the making but clearly if its been labelled as beta then it should also be priced accordingly too.

100% agree...the absence of a demo makes things even worse...
Posted by myth_old
This is just ridiculous as they will even lose potential customers.
Therefore I'm sure that they will provide a demo version soon

they are some troubles with the sound on my P1i (with a H.264 AAC file) The sound only plays the very first time the player is on.. the next times the sound disapears...

And Fullscreen is not really fullscreen... the Menu from my P1i is still on the screen visible

I've got the same sound issue, disappers after the file pauses. Also can't find any option to change the volume. Jog wheel just skips to the next track.
Full screen on my P990 is fine.
Posted by bondizi
Just purchased and now playing divx and xvid files straight off the net on the E90. Very smoothly and no audio/video lag, and smooth frame rate rendering, both unlike SmartMovie.
Posted by ares
artesea, frei, report those issues on their forum
Posted by frei
hehe, just done that...
Posted by Nickp990
does anyone know if i can download trial version and not buy it? and can someone post link where from download

Posted by masseur
you really need to read this thread instead of just jumping in asking questions.
just a few posts back I posted...

sorry masseur i am curently on wap device with my p990 and working and have no time to read all that

Can't seem to get the activation email from the Core Forum. Anyone got some http stream links for me to test?
Posted by Denk
Does it play videos if you will not do any conversion etc.? Could anyone try to play 700mb avi with normal dvdrip resolution?
Thanks
Posted by kilidar
I opened a 370 mb avi (prison break episode) picture was ok, then as soon as you do anything (like full screen or forward) the sound dissapears and never comes back. I tried sevral other smaller videos, the same happened. also tried audio files (.mp3, .wav) exactly the same, as soon as u touch the app the sound dissapears and never comes back althou the time counter in the case of the audio) shows it as still playing. This is on a P1i R6E30. Anyone with a P1 got the sound right?
Posted by frei
they guys at core player know that bug and are working on that (I hope so, as we all payed for this software!)
Posted by PH
I think this is brave to publish a beta with a pretty high price to pay and ask the users to come on board and help to fix it. How do you estimate the level of readiness of this app? 80percent? 50percent?
Posted by frei
I just think the same about that! I do not pay that much for a player I can't use! This is REALLY a BETA software for UIQ3. Actually WE should be payed to find the bugs and report them, not the other way arround!
And PLEASE digitally sign the Software to handle the Backlight issue!!!
