Today we release for UIQ3 a composite system utility, called Swiss Manager. Like a Swiss army knife, it is intended to help you access and use your phone better.

Swiss Manager features task and file management services, moreover useful pieces of system information. One may consider it as an essential addition to supplement the built-in features of the new UIQ3 phones.

Due to the lack of a comparable utility and the public demand for such program Swiss Manager is released as freeware. Swiss Manager is downloadable from CellPhoneSoft, My-Symbian and Handango.

Edit: The advanced edition, Swiss Manager Pro has many additional features. Current version is 1.70.

Lisa,

After installing the programme, there is an option to close apps automatically from FO to FC.

It looks like it is working well as I am consistently getting the same amount of free RAM and I do not have to manually close the apps from the task manager.

Is there a possibility to do an advance setting so that the end user can configure of not closing apps like Blackberry/pushmail from FO to FC ?

Thanks.

HTH.

Wow, very nice Just a shame I haven't got my P990 yet else I'd definately have been using it now. Thanks

Well i just tried it, and i´m convinced this is the first really "must have" app for UIQ 3...great work Lisa!!!

Posted by bitnaut
Wow! This works really well! Thank you for making it freeware.

I have a M600 and it works great! thanx a lot !

thank you for developing this tool !

Posted by masseur
it is a very useful app, as with their AutoCam, I was lucky to be beta testing this on the M600 and P990 and its firmly established as a "must have" for me too!

its just a shame that SE have blocked a couple of folders (\\sys and \\private) from being accessed

as I recall now, the only real difference between the M600 and the P990 is the "cleanup on close flip" function since, of course, the M600 doesn't have a flip

Actually,I don't know what is so great about this program.Installed it yesterday and removed it half an hour later cuz it does just the same as the original task manager. No auto killing tasks or something really useful. It brings info

What exactly do you mean by autokilling tasks? We can add features if they make sense.

great piece of application. the cleanup option is just effective.

and its free.

Works great! Nice one, thanks Lisa.

I'm telling you... Swiss Manager does absolutely nothing with the internet. (The app is not Symbian Signed, so if the new security craze does anything useful then the program could not even access the internet without you knowing.) But you can test for it - turn off net access, uninstall Swiss Mgr, and see how the symptoms change. Repeat: Swiss Mgr does not deal with internet in any way.

Something like that is coming up in the next version, to allow auto-cleanup on flipless phones.

Killing is more forceful, giving less chance to an application to do its normal exit procedure. Only use it if an app does not respond to the normal End task command. Do not attempt to close or kill a built-in system application (Swiss Manager attempts to exclude you making such mistakes).

Lisa@CPS thanks for the quick reply. i really appreciate the work you have put in making this application.

Let me quietly leak out the info that SwissMgr for UIQ2 (with extra features) is coming soon - a few beta testers are welcome (send application to our support mail address, indicating your phone model).

Excellent piece of software Lisa and thank you for making it freeware, need more developers like you with great programs like this around more.

Installed it last night and it works without a hitch, i find it much much more nicer than the built in task manager, in fact i havent even used the inbuilt one at all since installing Swiss manager on my p990i.

Only thing is that cant seem to get it working in FC mode, well its not available in the list of shortcuts, which is a shame but swiss manager isnt the only one that isnt available there...dont really like the fc shortcut menu to be honest.

Anyways looking forward to the next update

Only those apps are listed in the FC shortcut list that have support for FC mode. Swiss Mgr 1.00 (like many built-in apps) does not support it. This might change in the future...

1.10 will be released quite soon. New features: aggressive memory compression option, auto-cleanup on flipless phones, ability to exclude apps from the "End all tasks" command, fixed file navigator in non-English environment.

thanks for the freeware.

Lisa,

I cannot open the camera in FC mode anymore when I have installed the manager and have engaged the function kill app when close flip. Can this be solved?

Now, that's good news. I'm waiting anxiously for the next release.

We could not repeat this. So, please check if the above problem is reproducible (preferably after a fresh reboot), and if yes, then provide step-by-step instructions on what exactly to do to see it. Perhaps some other people with a P990 could report as well. Thx!

Posted by Johnex
hi lisa, when is the 1.10 aproximately going to be out?

Posted by masseur
I've reproduced it just now and this is what I did

1. in SwissManager, go to settings and enable "Cleanup on closing the flip"
2. close the flip
3. Open the camera lens cover which should start the camera application

at this point you can see the camera application initialising but then you see the "closing applications" message from SwissManager followed by the "Freed...." message from SwissManager

Posted by Johnex
yeah, i can confirm this too, happens exactly like masseur discribes.

Thanks for the fast response to both of you. Looks like a timing problem. What happens if you wait for the "flip-close flush" to complete, and open the camera cover afterwards?

Posted by masseur
I just waited one minute after closing the flip but still the same result

Posted by MR
Yup exactly the same as the guys tell you. Same with me!

MR

Posted by Zed@CPS
Okay, thanks, the developer guy jumped on it.

cool, looking forward to it

Another small issue but it could be because I am crazy:

Yesterday installed the app and when I close the flip the swiss manager tells me apps are closed and memory is freed up. After that the backlight should go off and the screensaver should come on. After a minute the backlight and screensaver should be off and the screen should be black.

Currently it looks like if the screen does not want to go off. The backlight stays dimmed and the automatic key lock sytem works and locks the device. But the key lock page indicating the time, the fact that the keylock is on the device and the way how to release it comes up and goes away with an interval of second or two. No screensaver is shown and the screen never becomes black. It pops up on the dimmed screen and goes away........ it will continue to do that.......

It looks like something is going on in the back. I had this issue with the backlight not going off one time before without the Swiss manager installed, but with the Swiss manager it happens quite often. At least 80% of the time.....

Lisa, I can make video of it if you want. But it is strange to see that the device is on my table and the backlighting is not going off. Stays on dimmed and the keylock screen comes up and goes away.

MR

Posted by masseur
I am not seeing any of that, I am only seeing the expected behaviour

Posted by Zed@CPS
@MR: Please exit SwissMgr (make sure it's not running), and observe the backlight. Then run it again and see what happens.

Posted by Johnex
again, just tried and it works normal to me.

Posted by Zed@CPS
What, guys, are we working together? Nice company!

Posted by Johnex
hehe, since i was number 2 in sweden to get the phone, testing on it is a breeze!

Posted by MR
I did the test Lisa and I do see it again on the P990i when Swiss manager is not running. So leave this point. I really looked at it yesterday and I noticed it.

However I wanna check if it occurs more often when I do have Swiss manager switched on. I will do more testing.

@MR,

I have noticed this behaviour since the latest FW upgrade. I have both automatic key lock and screen saver activiated after 1 min. But sometimes it doesnt lock it even though the screen is black and other times the screen saver is on but the backlight doesnt go off and neither is the keys locked.

I dont know if this behaviour is related to Swissmanager as i always exit the application.

Posted by MR
Something strange and I do not know what it is related to. I am still looking to find out what it is. I think something happens during while closing the flip.

MR

Posted by bitnaut
I've been using Swiss Manager alot and I've noticed that sometimes it gets killed in the process of using the phone but there's no warning that it has been killed. The only way I know this is when I close the flip and it doesn't report "Closing applications...". I open the flip and then see that Swiss Manager is no longer running. Is there anyway of keeping it from getting killed automatically by the OS?
