Nokia to take on the PSP and Nintendo DS
29 November 2006 by axxxr Nokia believes it can lure consumers away from Sony and Nintendo’s handheld platforms with its next-gen range of mobile phones.
Nokia says that games consumers will be forced to make a choice between its mobiles and with the likes of Sony PSP and Nintendo’s DS.Established publishers and developers have already signed up to produce content for Nokia's Nseries phones and S60 software, which are due for release early next year. Nokia’s head of games for UK and Ireland Martin O’Driscoll says that that "games consumers will be forced to make a choice between its mobiles, Sony’s PSP and Nintendo’s DS." He added:“The consumer will have to make a decision: does he wants a standalone gaming device with a limited browsing capability or a phone with an MP3 player,a camera and a bloody good games platform? I think consumers will be prepared to spend £300 on a phone that offers all those different things rather than £100 to £150 for a standalone games machine." source:mobileent

On 4 Dec 15:51 jao wrote Hmmm I've owned more nokias than SE's and still can't understand what everyone raves about, they are slow buggy and break. Every Nokia owner I know has turned to SE once they get out of the Nokia interface world. That took a year to come out and it's still buggy. Sony ericsson fans stop hating! On 29 Nov 18:55 korbindallis wrote the psp is so simple entertaining and uninterrupted funn your own private universe. the psp is such a sexy looking device unlike this square brick lol On 29 Nov 18:47 Mukul wrote All rubbish ....no phone can ever replace a psp, a digicam or a ipod .. It can combine all devices in one ..but cannot replace the originals... and Nokia then forget it ...these concept's wont ever be made ... On 29 Nov 18:35 Prom1 wrote Nokia; it took you 9 months to begin delivering on the promise of S60 3RD edition phones to have new games from the N-Gage sources. Either put up or shut up! I'm sick of all these 5 months/4 months announcements of a product/service THEN wait another 2 months before shipping begins! This is the thinking behind a second rate business. On 29 Nov 17:53 zakc wrote I love the fact that my DS-Lite doesn't need much looking after and I already have a sizable back catalogue of games to play on it before even buying a DS only game. I was one of the muppets who bought the first n-gage, loved the fact that I could over hear phone conversations using the radio (we didn't have a dect phone at the time, just a crappy cordless) and some of the games were cool. But I can't help thinking that the pic above looks like a nice smartphone than a portable gaming system. I'd certainly reconsider my p990 if it was and had gps built in. On 29 Nov 17:10 jargin wrote yes. On 29 Nov 16:51 J wrote Ok.... Guess the whole N-Gage failure taught them nothing huh? Besides, I highly doubt any game developers would back it. More profitable to develop for the DS or PSP. On 29 Nov 16:17 Jos wrote This keyboard is from a HTC phone!!! On 29 Nov 15:41 Dogmann wrote I'm not really into gaming and yes the N gage was a disaster but what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Also technology has moved on since then. If it is well made a nice looking as it appears above it could well be a great combination. But of course here as it doesn't have an SE it has to rubbish of course. If this was an SE announcement you'd be raving about how truly stunning and brilliant it is. Bluetooth watch anyone? Marc On 29 Nov 15:31 Delta9 wrote Remember the N-Gage.....
