Nokia is to give new phone models a names rather than a number, following the success of rivals with model names like RAZR and "chocolate."

"What you will see coming from us in the future is not just a numbering system, you are going to start to see names that carry a meaning and are important to consumers," Keith Pardy, head of marketing at Nokia, said during a webcast from an Citigroup's investor meeting in New York.

He did not specify if all new models would get names, or if some would still be introduced with a four digit number.source:yahoo news

I never have understood why Nokia is no.1 mobile company in the world...

Is it that it just gives very very very simple phones to people that want just to dial and talk?

@pinolo77: Since when is it hard to remember numbers only? Baka.

& grammar correction in the heading: *give a name* or *give names*, not "give a names"

Even though i'm a SonyEricsson fan, i can appreciate this move by Nokia, good thinking. The "Chocolate" phone shouldn't have been an example though.. one of the worst phones in existence and it's extremely high priced (at least in Romania).

I think it is a good idea.. Particularly if you have many models out (like SE, Nokia, and so on). Motorola started the trend, but it makes sense to me that customers know a little better which model to choose...
Numbers and only numbers are hard to memorize..
