Nokia has announced seven new handsets that provide functions and features specifically designed for consumers in emerging markets.

The new products announced include:

- Nokia 1200 and Nokia 1208: Utilizing new industry-leading phone-sharing and call-tracking technology, these two new products are aimed at the first-time mobile phone consumer worldwide;
- Nokia 1650 and Nokia 2660: Contemporary phones that combine functionality with attractive design;
- Nokia 2505: The latest phone for entry CDMA markets in Asia/Pacific, Middle East, Africa, China and Latin America;
- Nokia 2630 and 2760: Fashionably-designed phones that convey style and status, combined with Nokia's easy-to-use feature set.

"Innovative phone-sharing technology, contemporary design and easy-to-use features combine in these new products to empower consumers in entry markets," said Petersen. "As the clear market leader, with more than one-third of global market share, Nokia works to understand the needs and aspirations of consumers. We put this understanding into practice by developing products and applications that are relevant, easy-to-use and simple to understand, which is especially important for first-time users in emerging markets around the world."

The new products will be available in the second and third quarter of 2007 in select markets.  Estimated retail prices, before applicable taxes and subsidies range from 35 to 90 EUR.

The very first comment by someone called BMK is avoidable. He does not seem to be a sensible person when he talks bullsheet about world's number one brand. He seem to have some personal enmity with Nokia. He must know that by through dust at Sun his own eyes are likely to be damaged and it will not make any difference to the Sun.

These phones are for the emerging markets. I personally think SE could do away with peddling basic phones like these and maybe market T610s and Z600s instead. This year's top phone is next year's mid-ranger. The Nokia 1100 has sold 200 million, which is twice the number of iPods in the world. Says a lot about the old navi-key... why have a 4-way controller on a basic phone?

It's definitely useless to bitch about how Nokia is blah or blah. They know what they are doing. We have to understand that the larger portion of the mobile market is not made by mobile junkies like ourselves who drool for N95. And by the way, before you talk about company histories check your facts. SonyEricsson inherits both the the infrastructure and business of Ericsson and Sony Mobile divisions. Ericsson has been around since 1876, so go figure.

hehe.. some ppl are useless, anyways there are more buzz with se then nokia.
but its unfair to compare the years in business like that. Nokia was not producing mobiles from the day one. hehe.. also sony & ericsson are some bussiness very old like nokia, so in a way its like 2 big ppl gettin together & trying to beat up a another fellow

nokia i thin founded in 1964 and sonyericsson is founded in 2002 see the difference...
but i would like to say SE is growing faster then nokia motorolla and samsung are also the competetor of nokia but SE is really taking the market form nokai nokai founded in 1964 after 1964 and now 2007 they achive all this as u know and SE established in 2002 and now 2007 and what they achive everybody knows after 5 years u will see SE will holds the market because nokia is not improving the position they made n95 but there are lots of problem in it and the price of nokia phones are not stable because of producing too much model at a time that why the big sets like n95 they lost the market but if u see SE they produce 990 afte that they stop for 2 years like 910 900 this is the best policy customer knows if i buy 990 its price will be stabel for 1 year but nokia they send n95 and afte 2 month they will send new model like n95 SE have a good sound display light weight design are very cool... i was using nokia but now for 3 yeas i m using SE now i prefer SE SE is really good....

why does people always involve SE even though the main topic is nokia. SE is just a new comer and nokia is already there for so many decades. theres no point comparing nokia and SE sales afterall as the SE is just a rapidly growing manufacturer whilst nokia is already the largest company in which it has the biggest sales due to the fact that they can use their large company's finance to market every phones they have, produce more phones than others can, and export it to the number of markets worldwide. this is the advantage of a big company so theres no point saying nokia sales and share is larger blah, blah blah...

These are for people who have no use for the functionality of the n95, which by Nokia's own accounts is a large piece of the pie. As much as we may like to bitch about Nokia they know their audience better than any other phone maker, which is why Nokia just sold over 91M devices in the first quarter against Sony Ericsson's 21M.

Those are some lack lustre designs but i guess that you can't always come out with phones for those with big pockets. The average person may not be able to afford it. So i guess that this is something for them.
