Press release:

DetectRight launches next-generation W3C compliant mobile device web service database
A major addition to the mobile development ecosystem, the first W3C compliant device database in the world is also the biggest, containing data on over 9000 devices

Bergen, Norway, January 15th, 2008 – Mobile Phone Wizards, the creators of DetectRight, the first device detection web service, today released the largest device database in the world and the only device database and search engine that currently complies with the W3C's "Core Vocabulary" schema for mobile device capabilities.

DetectRight delivers a comprehensive device detection solution that benefits mobile application developers and enterprises by enabling them to easily adapt applications and content to multiple device types. The DetectRight database builds on the DetectRight platform by giving developers the tools they required to make end user's mobile experience tailor-made to their own devices such as screen size, markup language and other attributes. Because DetectRight is also a ready-to-run web service, it also dramatically reduces development and maintenance cycles. The end result is far better usability and quality for users of mobile services while addressing the maximum number of deployed handsets.

DetectRight

The DetectRight platform leverages the growth of mobile services and addresses the fundamental issues of developing and deploying on a growing number of device types in the wireless ecosystem. Penetration of advanced feature phones, smart phones and other convergence devices are projected to continue drive rapid growth of mobile services. "Disruptive innovation like the DetectRight platform is vital to the future of the mobile web, especially when it's both radical and helps further open standards", said Ajit Jaokar, CEO  of FutureText, author of the book Mobile Web 2.0 and blogger at OpenGardens. "It helps if the innovation is driven by the need to solve problems rather than impose solutions." In addition to DetectRight's industry-leading detection and analysis engine, the service allows for automated queries against a vast stream of real-world device traffic: a new innovation that should be responsible for saving thousands of development man hours. A complete set of APIs gives users to the ability to interface with the search engine and to download search results in multiple formats, including XML, SOAP and Excel. Furthermore, the system may be deployed onsite as semi dedicated or fully dedicated platforms for enterprises who require more control and customization. "The industry sees a device repository ecosystem as the future", said Njal Wilberg, CEO of Mobile Phone Wizards. But the jump from proprietary systems to a Web service world can be daunting. The DetectRight platform bridges the gap, to help everyone from small companies to large enterprises which need dedicated detection platforms handling billions of hits."

About Mobile Phone Wizards and DetectRight

Mobile Phone Wizards AS is a Norwegian company founded in 2005 to provide tools for publishing content and services to the many different mobile devices available in the market. They were the first to launch a web service API for device detection, and the first to launch a device database corresponding to the W3C’s specifications for device repository functionality. For two years they have also been running UAProfile.com, the previous biggest public database of devices, now superseded by DetectRight.

DetectRight is currently being offered in Guest, Standard, Pro and Enterprise variants. For further information, visit www.detectright.com.
