Maybe I've just got superfast fingers but since the first fw on the P990i through to the new one, the phone just isn't fast enough. I'm hammering the back button, trying to move onto new things, particularly when messaging and the phone just can't keep up with me!
My P910i didn't have this problem at all, it was so responsive.

I think people wear rose tinted specs with regards to old phones such as the P910i. My dad has my old one with the R4 FW and the P990 is easily as quick. |

i also played a bit with a P910 in the weekend, and compared to P990 with R5 i really canīt see much difference, besides the P910 having more multitasking capability, but less friendliness to the user

My P990i was MUCH slower than my P910i, but only until the latest firmware update. That was not because of the processor (which is faster on the P990i) but because of the awful memory management problems which made the P990i really sluggish (when it wasn't crashing all over the place.
But with the latest firmware and Swiss Manager installed, my P990i is much snappier than my P910 was, and causes no frustration on account of speed.
So now I don't think the P910i was better in any way than the P990i is now, other than the better jog dial functions. And the P990i makes up for that with the neat four-way navigation button, which the P910i didn't have, and which makes the P990i really sing in flip-closed mode. |

Must be my superfast fingers then.
I wonder if the P1 will be any good. |

@all:
I just had a look into the EMMA 3 system (to see if I have a newer firmware upgrade) and I found something interesting.
The R5A17 that current P990 users have is based on the 633_91 baseline. I check with Elena's baseline (aka P1i) and it is also based on the 633_91 baseline. The R6D18 is based on a newer baseline. The conclusion I have is that the P1i's current build is similar to the R5A17 that P990 users already have. So the R6 firmware for P990 will indeed be based on a newer baseline.
For potential P1i users, all I can say is "don't worry" as the phone will only come out at the end of the year and they should have the R6 baselines by then.

This is slightly off topic but I'll make an excuse for myself saying that it is SEUS related
When you run the update program (SEUS) you have a list of smartphones that you can apparently choose to update and one of these options is the P900. However, after selecting the P900 and pressing "continue" I end up at the start screen. Since some people here have both the P990 and the P900 I'd like to ask if they have tested a P900 update?
You can PM me if you wish so we don't clutter the thread. Thanks.
P990i: A mistake, a curse and a disgrace So I lowered my expectations and settled for a P1i. I couldn't keep my expectations so low for a long time so now I have an HTC Touch HD |

Today my SE contact confirmed to me that before the P1 starts shipping (or at the same time) there will be a firmware update for current models bringing the improvements and enhancements of the P1 firmware to M600, W950 and P990.

finally, after one year we will have the super phone we all wanted in the first place.
yet, even with the shortcomings, the alternatives to the P990i are still bleach. So who is blaming the SE now?! Nobody anymore?! I am just content now (not numb, just content). Great. I like it. |
