I contacted Sony Ericsson UK this week asking about a release date for the W850. I want it because I really like the design, not too fussed about a great camera or anything, I just like the style of it.
Anyway, here's the (rubbish!) reply I got:
Dear Jason Andrews,
Thank you for contacting the Sony Ericsson Call Centre.
With regards to your enquiry, unfortunately we do not have a definite plan or release date for the Sony Ericsson W850i in the United Kingdom. We instead refer you to our website www.sonyericsson.com for the latest information available to the general public. Alternatively you could contact your network or retailer for their release date.
Should you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us again for further help and support.
(snipped rest of generic reply)
Kind Regards,
Rob Boath

Since when was there a W830? I've heard nothing of the sort. All we know is an upgraded W950 with a 3.2 mp cam, no word on the Nvidia processor and the numbering of W830 is pretty wrong. I mean, that's even lower than the W900. But at risk of going off topic, we should go here

I think you're talking about this. Just a thread trying to think up 'concepts' for the new phones.

Regarding the w830 i dont think the W series will ever get autofocus and the specs mentioned are what se would call a W980i or W990i

I reckon that this'll be competitor to yes, the 3250, but mainly the 6280 (and the Samsung Z400). They both have similar specs and are both cashing the same market area. The only thing is, is that I suspect the W850 will be much more expensive. The 6280 is doing great business for Nokia in Australia. Cheap for it's features and everyone's getting one. The W850 will need to be marketed well to be able to topple the market.

this is certainly on my list, not least because of the new form factor for , and I suspect it may even simply replace my K800 making it the first time in terms that I have not had an bar style phone since my first T68/T68i!

Are you getting it for the improved player and design (looks)?

as I mentioned, I don't really like the walkman branding on any of the phones, but hopefully I can get the white W850 (to go with my white M600!) as I feel that does look better than the black
but mostly I'll get it to check out the new design

Fair enough. And then you'll soon move on to the W950
And as for me. I'll just sit tight and wait for the next major announcement. I'll try to resist
