@paul just installed ubuntu via wubi and gave it a 10GB space.
It looks kewl 
What basic applications, codecs i need to install?
A freeware link would be good too...

you dont need to go searching for codecs 
open the terminal, and copy and paste this:

| sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras |

(rigtht click and select "paste")

@paul it says "couldn't find package ubuntu-restricted-extras" 
Edit:applications like media players other than the totem player and instant messengers?

just downloaded the restricted extras 
and noticed the pidgin multi messenger is pre-installed
can the LimeWire or Utorrent be used with Ubuntu?

bash: eh?: command not found
Edit: And i can't hear sound, the player is playing the music files though
the Master Volume is 100% and the Application volume is 100% too
