hi guys,
i want to install Ubuntu as an application on my Laptop operating Vista OS...
has anyone installed it as an application on your Vista OS?

right
firstly, do you want it running inside windows or as a separate os (both can be installed from within vista and run as a program on vista)
if you like ubuntu you can completely install it as a separate os (dual boot (will run faster))
have you got a ubuntu disk??

yeah i have its CD, got it from a friend as Ubuntu can be freely distributed 
does the 8.04LTS Desktop Edition works on Vista?

right then, you need to get virtualbox and install to vista

-------- or if you like simple solutions:
use wubi!! it boots as a separate os (but runs under vista) and no partitioning is required and uninstalles with a click of a mouse (i highly recommend it to new users)

@thomas yea mate i have many .ISO files of Linux on PC World DVDs... I can use daemon tools for ISO files. Does that(the ISO files) run the OS directly?
@paul the virtualbox is for installing the OS? I aint gonna install it as an OS though...
I will use wubi for installing it as an application... Does wubi require virtualbox?

installing ubuntu on virtualbox: (you need to have virtualbox installed)

(you will need to have more than 1.5 gigs of ram for Vbox to run quickly and a fairly good graphics card)
have you used any linux distros before?
or (easier)
wubi is different from virtualbox will act as a dual boot without all the partitioning and can be removed easily (if you want to install wubi (the easy option)) stick the ubuntu disk in (with vista running), select "install inside windows" and follow instructions

no, using wubi will provide a dual boot that can be easily removed and doesnt partition your system (setup only takes a few clicks, my gran can do it!)

Well, if you don't like Pauls methods download VMware Server edition and Alchol 52%.
Afer that it's simple 
Mount the iso and set up VMWare which is quite simple then just boot up the virtual machine

yeah, install w/th virtualbox, you can use the linux disk, just follow the instructions on the virtualbox program
what linux distro you using, i thaught you were talking about ubuntu  (too much time spent helping people on UF)

this way, ubuntu can be removed with the click (or 2 clicks to be exact) of a mouse
insert disk while running vista
then once its done, restart your computer, there will now be an option to boot up into ubuntu (vista will be default os)
boot into ubuntu and it will do a check for F---ups and you have a shiny ubuntu desktop
