Wat bout n6230,n6630 ,can they be used as pc web cam ?

Yes they can be used as a webcam via BT. There is a software package called BlueCam by some german developer, i think its gluIT. Anyway, it consist of two parts, one for your PC, and a java application for your phone.

You need:
- K700 (or compatible mobile)
- a seriell/usb cable, IR or better Bluetooth
- a FTP Account

1. Connect you mobile to the PC and start the K700Wecam Tool
2. Configure the Comport Settings (if you had problems with it try the SetupCOM Tool which you can download on http://k700.hitziger.net)
3. Enter your FTP Account Username/Password
4. if you want to use a subdirectory on your FTP Server enter a directory
5. Enter a filename which the picture should have on the FTP Server
6. Choose the mobile camera directory (it's somethings with camera_semc in the directoryname) - just open the combobox - after open it all directories of your mobile will be shown
7. Now choose the silent profile (for a quiet camera - works only with "unbranded" mobiles)
8. the other things should be self-explanatory

Now you can make a Testrun (makes only one photo and upload it to your FTP Server). You can press "Start Timer" when all works. Your mobile makes now a photo upload it wait the given time and start over again until you press "Stop Timer".

The point FTP Upload is important.

u mean i can use my nokia 6230 as web cam ?
Plz help me find that java application 4 mobile & bluecam.

Posted by gojnik064
Well, it should work on every phone that has the required java APIs for BT and camera control. I know that it works on a 6600 and Siemens S65, so maybe it will also work on your 6230 if the required APIs are present. Cant help you find it because I am on wap now. Try typping bluecam on google.

It is not a true webcam in the normal sense simply because BT can not support the streaming speeds required. An MMS is almost the same thing without having a constant GPRS connection that is required to be able to connect to the FTP server. Not to mention the costs incurred with the xfer's and rec's of GPRS.

.Does this mean that a wireless BT webcam cannot function as better as other cabled webcam.
I want to use my phone as webcam 4 chating purpose on msn or yahoo. ;-D

In short. It will not work in real-time. As I stated, BT can not support the real-time streaming required. USB, or Firewire can handle the bandwidth. If you have a PC already, why bother with GPRS that for the most part can not handle the data speeds required as well. To purchase that software, is a waste of money in my opinion.

.Do u mean data cable by "firewire" ? ;-(

Posted by sapporobaby
Firewire is a data transport technology, such as USB.

In short, forget about using your phone as a webcam. IT WILL NOT WORK. There is no way to transfer the images from the phone to the PC fast enough. If you are using a PC, why bother with your phone in the first place? Get a proper webcam and get better quality.

I guess you r rite ......
Thanx for help.

Actually i was asking coz i had cam phone & wanted to try........

It would be quite useful to be able to simply plug my v800 into my Powerbook using the USB cable and use the camera as a webcam on iChat. Would save me from having to carry my iSight around all the time as well as my phone and PB.

I don't think this is such a stupid idea to be honest.

I've understood that videophone to PC through BT wouldn't work because of the low speed (incapability of streaming) but would it work through USB?

Posted by THOMASPERFECTO
You could use RemotePx00 in conjunction with some screen grabing software.

Posted by 701
Waste of time and money.

found a copy of bluecam and tried it out on a nokia 6230 - managed to get the bluetooth connection working but couldnt get any pics displaying either on the pc application or on the phone app itself - only got a black screen with a purple dot on the phone.

i'm guessing this app isnt compatible with the 6230... - and if there is any troublehooting info on the web, its probly all in german anyway...

You can't do it, other than with symbian phones as above.

There was a K700i app once but it only took intermittant photos - tried it, didn't like it.

I just tested the Mobiola WebCam program and it works fine with my K790i in Yahoo! Messenger.

Pretty impressive for what it is, work just great over Bluetooth.

And for $4.95 I'd say its a pretty good deal.

Posted by luvsanro
In India Intex Auro would be the best option coz for this phone u wont need any software to be installed in phone secondly u get 1 GB Memory Card with the phone.

Intex!!
what's that...

I have a Song A168 or CECT P900. It is the most easiest phone to use as a webcam. No drivers. You put the USB between the phone and the pc. THAT IS ALL!

does the t637 camera can be used as a webcam too!!!

cuz if i can do that idont need to buy one thanks

Posted by Prodigal Me
Hmmm ... it'd be useful to be able to use you phone as a webcam but I wouldn't go paying money for it.

Posted by luvsanro
IMHO you shud better buy a separate web cam for computer or laptop rather than using the phone cam as ur web cam.

I know i started this thread & never thought this wud go this long & so many ppl are excited about this.

USING a phone as webcam shud also have better supporting behaviour ,

suppose if you are on a serious webcam chat & within that a another emergency call comes in ... imagine that situation

2ndly webcams are so cheap anyone can buy them

Try this link http://san.fileave.com/files/webcam.htm to choose frm various options.

If it is true that if the web cameras are so cheap I will put to invent my phone as a Web cam, which would be interesting to know if we could use directly from the camera 3g (for those who have these phones) as a webcam for example msn and wifi or with a package of large data we can chat as a normal pc.

keep inventing , but know this, the chinese electronic market is out with a webcam & whole cellphone on a wrist watch.
