Mailed SE yesterday, and they agree to listen to our suggestions concerning future improvements of sw and handsets.. so.. what could be done better? write your subject here, and i'll mail that thing back to SE.
Now lets cooporate, to kick Nokias ass

Produce lighter phones at 85g like both mine S55, NOKIA! Take the joypads away so they don't look like games consoles lmao!

Posted by volvoman
SMS counter on the P800. I have 120 free each month and my T68i has a counter my R520 has a counter but my P800 does not. It is hard to keep track of ones I have sent and I always delete them after sending them.

Posted by 3301
more memory in phones who doesn´t have memorystick.
make so the phones have speakerphone so you kan use it to listen to amr.files and other sounds you get by MMS while watching the MMS.

Posted by suzy
Make the software faster! The T68i and T300 were too slow compared to Nokia's when sending txts.

ALLOW US TO DELETE PRE-DEFINED ITEMS. POST THEM ON WEBSITE FOR THOSE WHO WANT THEM BACK!

@Laffen:
So, we will evidently continue the discussion here. Why's that ?

just took a look at the 68-list. maybe SE got nuts because it seemed imposible to make all these improvements

Posted by sahran
HERE MY SUGGESTIONS :

1.can copy contact one by one from phonebook to sim.
2.can use phonebook contact with sim contact at the same time or can hide or show any of them .
3.can save more messages (sms) in inbox , and the messages not delete after remove the sim and put another sim .
4.can move notes we wrote to the new text message.

i think this is weaknees points in sonyercsson .

It would be nice if they implemented Java midp 2, with raw sockets and bluetooth apis on the T610

Posted by b-chill
Nice Comments...

Mind you, i basically thought of the things which makes people think:
I'm gonna buy a Noika, cause SE is all crap. what MUST be fixed on new SE releases?

Posted by wrath000
Yeah, MIDP v2
All the other major manufacturers have announced handsets that support MIDP v2 except SE. I know it's a very big deciding factor for me...

flash software upgrades via SE website.

Posted by MindStorm

Agree with Aqu4rius!!!

Posted by b-chill
Would be nice. So here's a summary so far:

Faster software (with uptodate 3. party elements like midp 2.0, JAva etc etc)
Changable covers
online flashing.
general improvements in the software (should be more specified)
more memory

One thing I have in mind: What about the design? its very importent i guess?

Posted by dw
yes I wished for it before, ability to upgrade your phone yourself
would be one of the greater features. Not everyone live close
to service centers and not everyone can live without the phone
a week if the dealer sends it away for upgrade.

Posted by oliverlim
1. Fix the hissing sound in the speaker when talking on the phone.

2. Allow user to change the default program to run on the camera/WAP/MORE"Right soft button in standby"/Up joystick button in standby.

3. Allow the "0" key to scroll down the list of T9 words during SMS just like the T68i.

4. Allow Chinese SMS input.

5. Fix the memory allocation issue. A 10KB file should take up 10KB no more no less.

6. Allow assigning unique ringtone to each group. Currently you can assign individual ring tones to individual name.

7. Allow you to add a "name" into a group instead of a individual number of a name into a group.

8. On new sms, once you selected the name of the receipant, allow the right soft button to send immediately instead of us needing another 3 button press on the left soft button to actually send a sms.

Thats about all. Not too long a list right?

I would like those famous 3 startup beeps back

Posted by b-chill
Nope, thank u oliver

What? are the 3 beeps gone? Damn u, sony

Posted by ThreeX
Faster software, yes.. although t610 seems pretty snappy.
Please NO exchangeable shells!! I don´t want another creaky squeaky phone (after 8310)
scrap the joystick and use pad instead (like S55 and t200)
Make SE phone with curves!! Please!
I have come to the point where I actually consider buying a t610, but that is strictly because of features, I don´t find it the least bit attractive! Maybe, maybe if the top half were carbon fibre or anodized aluminium, but the hi-gloss black is just soo tacky.. great for dusting for fingerprints though

Posted by b-chill
exactly! the Ericsson curves like T65+68! t610 design is no good!

Posted by dw
I thought T610 was ugly untill I saw it in the store it was alot nicer
then the impressions one got from the pictures. The same thing
goes for T68i. But I guess it will be impossible to make a phone everyone thinks is beutifull.

Posted by masseur
Now you see.. thats one I disagree with... I like the T610 shape.

For me the best enhancement would be the self-upgrade option which works very well on my HP ipaq.

Posted by Jammydodger
Exactly, It's all a matter of opinion... Most people I know who have seen the phone in person have really liked the design!

SE are never going to please everyone.

Posted by ThreeX
Oh yes, forgot that.. i love the browsable filesystem and online FW-upgrades for my S55
I realize that it´s all but impossible to make a phone that suits everybody´s taste looks-wise, but i still can´t for the life of me find the "New generation" SE´s attractive.. sorry..

Posted by b-chill
of cause its a matter of taste, but also what you are used to.
SE could do a lot to make better phones in my opinion.

Wishlist for improvement in T610 firmware
1) allow more than one note to be posted on the main screen.
2) allow customise all the 4 directions of the joystick, up, down, left and right.
3) allow setting of more than 1 alarm.
4) battery information, like the old ericsson mobiles, "left 1hr talktime", etc...

Posted by DREWMARK
Allow Line 2 on the P800, When I upgraded I had to cancel my line2 because of that.

Posted by Law
I have some things that could be improved on the T610 just by firmware updates.

I agree with wrath000 and others:
Quote:

This should be possible by updating the firmware.

Java, sockets:
-------
It is a very important thing, that phones like the Nokia 3650 have. When you have applications on your mobile phone, ofcourse it should be possible to make use of the Internet (and Bluetooth). It makes no sense otherwise - then it's just a phone with "Gameboy" capabilities. And talking about games, if you had raw socket support, think of the cool multiplayer games you could make.

I would really, really like to be able to use ICQ, Messenger etc. using GPRS. Also I'm a developer and could think of lots of different uses for java applications connected to the Internet.

LEDs
-------
The one LED on the T610 should be sufficient for signaling different kinds of messages like: new incomming message, low battery etc. It could blink/flash in many different ways. If your tests show that some people don't like it, just make it possible to dissable it. In my T39m the LED wasn't of much use. But if you could make it blink in a particular way if you had a new message og maybe a missed call, it would be really useful.

Posted by Lars
@Law, wonderful suggestions and improvments! how could i have missed these out! man! hope SE could really help us.

My wishlist for
New handsets:

For youngsters:
that is the size of the N1 (neonode) but with keypad like SL55/7650,
has 2 Mpixel camera and Video cam, GSM/GPRS/UMTS.
Long range BT, infrared, Java Games, Opera browser, Mediaplayer, T10 (predictive text input), MMS, Polyfonic ringtones 64tones, 65K+ screen.

Price: below 500 euro

For bussines:
smaller than the P800 (same features as above) but with touchscreen and a virtual keyboard that kan be projected on the screen or on a table (with laser)

Price: Below 700 euro

What about those... that looks nice.. isn't it?

Hy folks...just wanted to say that in my opinion the thing that makes people buy nokia or siemens instead of SE is that there are some little features like for example integrated handsfree, shock resistant phones and the possibility of changing the sound for incoming sms...these are only little thing but they sometimes make the difference...i myself own a T68 and are really happy with it but it is difficult to make people change their mind....

Posted by Lars
@üüf

oh yes! the most important of all, selectable of downloaded tones for incoming SMS!

Posted by b-chill
I asked myself a question: don't you think that SE looks in other manufactures' phones? can't they see their software is too slow?
cause there are things which we all in here agree are not just good enough!!
Cheers

Posted by bossjohnc
@DREWMARK: I *am* using L2 on my P800

It's not 100% reliable, but I can make/receive calls on it.

It involves having WildFire on L2 and calling cards.

Oh, and it's not much use if you don't have a L1 tarrif with free answerphone!

KEEP THE JOYSTICK!

Change your name to Ericssony
Just joking...

But seriously, PLEASE DON'T MAKE MORE BRICK PHONES! PLEASE design phones with CURVES, like the most AMAZING T68i!!!

@Boyi - I agree with you , SE should keep the joystick...

Posted by Lars
yeah keep the joystick
its easier to navigate,

Posted by vanquish
@b-chill square, neat, sharp lines is the fashion now. notice most cars i.e ford have ditched the cheap black plastic curvy bumper look and gone for clean sharp lines. the t68 woz lush, but the t610 has style. its unique thinness is the same the whole way through, where as nokia thicknesses differ from top to bottom. i think the t610 is lusher than t68(i). sony are totally the most fashionable electronic goods. they research into design a lot, thats why there so expensive!

keep joystick, MAKE SURE SE ALLOW OTHER MANUFACTURES TO MAKE COVERS AND FASCIAS. the selection for the t300 is 7. i is wacky, the other just colours. i would love a matrix fascia, or evanescence, nickelback or oo7.

good goin b-chill. suggestions is all that se needs to KICK NOKIAS BUTT

I've been a Nokia user for 8 years. Even now, when Nokia is lagging in terms of features, I still find myself reluctant to switch. Nokia may be behind in the bells and whistles, but Nokia is still strong in the BASIC OPERATION of the phone in terms of features and user friendly-ness. If SE can be better or at-par with Nokia on this then SE should have no problem grabbing the lion share of the mainstream mobile phone user. The T610 is almost there, but lacks a few features that I found indispensable. Here are my suggestions for SE:

1. Call and Contact Management
------------------------------
One-button access to Last Dialled Numbers from standby mode e.g., pressing UP arrow in standby brings the last dialled number (upto 20 numbers). Ability to send name and number(s) to other people (like Nokia's send Business Card) is useful. Transfer contact details to sim card one by one.

2. More and Better Access to Profiles
------------------------------------
Many types and user customisable (timed) profiles is extremely convenient for different situations like in meetings, noisy areas etc. Easy access to change profiles is also important.

3. Make the battery-saving mode more useful
-------------------------------------------
Rather than putting a monster digital clock as the (fixed) screensaver / battery-saving mode, it would be useful to put the Day, Date AND Time in the screensaver or battery-saving mode. If you want to take it one step further, put the next (upcoming) reminder in there as well. Make a nice layout with all the data ALWAYS visible, maybe in monochrome to save battery. Even better if user can customise the screensaver or the info in battery-saving mode. If SE did this, I don't have to look at my watch anymore.

4. The rest
-----------
- User customisable Up, Down, Left and Right Joystick.
- Faster menu speed.
- Longer battery life, minimum 3-5 days on regular/heavy use.
- More memory. With camera, minimum 4MB is needed especially if 1 pic uses 50k.
- High visibility screen in bright sunny day.
- User interchangable faceplates (for scratches, dents, dust as well as fashion).
- Better looking phones. Most SE phones are a big turn-off (except t68 & T610).

That's all I guess.

RE: number 1 on your list - try pressing the top right softkey on a T610 and see what happens

LOL, strangely enough on both of mine it takes me straight to the recent calls list - one more press and the phone's redialling the number, just the same as a nokia.

I used to agree about the 'basics' and nokia when all SE had to show was the 'orrible T68(i) and then the equally plasticy T300 - but with my P800 & T610 i couldn't be happier (* not actually true, of course i could be happier! I'm satisfied with them then!), they really have got pretty much every basic sorted out, as far as i can see.

Hi

After numerous Nokias I still think that the good ol T68/T68i was the best phone I ever owned until I got my T610.
As far as features go the T68 was way ahead of the field on release, ok, it was a bit cumbersome but for all that it did it could not be beaten.
The T610 is just an advancement of the T68i which puts SE back at the top for features vs £s.

I am happy with my T610 and would probably never go back to Nokia again unless they make a killer phone.
Also, every Nokia phone I have owned has always had problems where it will crash or the screen will go funny or it will randomly turn itself off and their phones always seem to have crappy battery life as well.

1) Icreased signal power, nokia are still better with signal (tho I hate to say it)

2) more curvy non brick like designs (steal a nokia designer)

3) more rigorus testing before release

4) a tv remote control thingy (like they used to have in the watches) would be a cool bit of software

5) the ability to transfer pic direct to pc from a datacable

It would be even more efficient if in complete darkness the display will turn off totally (the phone will measurer the light condition by using a small light sensor ).

My ideas

1) More customisation - shortcuts arn't that much of a short cut. Pressing and holding 5 for example on my old Siemens c35 could take you to your inbox. Also the LED, some people hate it, some cant live without it, so why not make it customisable? Or at least on/off.

2) Message tone - don't like the high pitch tone, don't hear the click. I understand this has changed on newer phones though.

3) Better call list information - would like to know the time AND date. Also information for sent SMS's such as time and date sent, and whether it was received or not if your using the status reports.

4) More speed - either faster menu speeds or removing unnecessary stages. For example if I want to call a contact in my phonebook that has only one number saved, I still have to press yes on their name, then yes on their number. Why can't I just select their name and it calls the default number, because its the only number!

I'm only goin on my T65, some of this may not be relevant on the newer models. I'll find out when my t610 arrives!

Posted by Law
@b-chill: Good initiative. Hopefully this results in a useful list of suggestions.

@Lars: thanks

I find the design on the T39 and T610 quite nice. The T68m has a pretty cheap finish. But the rest of the SE phones look pretty boring and brick like.

I agree with Novell and AndyM about custumization and getting "the basics" right.

I wonder how the phones are tested. Lets say that SE wants to compete with a phone like the Nokia 3310. The SE entry level phones should be just as user friendly as the Nokia 3310. Part of it is menu speed and sms speed but most is just a bit more optimization on the navigation and interface logic. SE should test their phones with Nokia 3310 users and find a solution to virtually anything that the Nokia users don't like.

Posted by mkt
If we have to live with the "big clock", i think good idea would be changing screensaver whenever u get sms or missed cal - i.e. big envelope instead of big clock (or somewhere above or beneath it) when new sms comes.

My private opinion is, SE has to learn not only make best mobiles on the market (same sentence in reviews whenever new SE comes) but has to try also to make most popular. No software improvments can help SE sales if they forget about marketing and stuff

Posted by b-chill
First of all, thank you for your positive comments. it is really apprichiated

Update: SE Customer Care has updated the case, which means that they are "at standby", waiting for my "report"

at last somthing about the design. That is a matter of opinion. someone said that sony is spending a lot of money researching in design. I agree. I find a lot of Sony products attractive.
But I think it is hard for SE to get a common stamp when it comes to design.
I'll say they have to look in the car industry. alot of the prototype cars have an innovative design. i looked at cars, and then tried to make some scetches of SE phones with these straight lines combined with oblique angels.
I think the phone is something you can go exploring just by looking at it. it should be explored.
Just my opinion, what do you think?

Posted by pachy
My idea of a perfect phone would be my P800 but with these changes;
In order of importance,

1.The abillity to have TWO live sims

2.More organic shape (Like t68).

3.The use of "Rubbery surface" (like t68 battery) to greatly help with grip.
4.A removable basic "phone" with one line display & keypad that comes away from the main PDA phone as a tiny basic phone to take with you when doing a high risk task.
5. Voice recognision for sms writing (i do know this is not an easy request).
