What?
Posted by jplacson
I think what he/she was trying to say is that Sun Communications is planning to turn their current Php2/min, Php0.50/SMS promo into their regular rates.... for good!

Well, according to Globe and Smart, they were confident in maintaining their current prices. But only time will tell who has the real advantage. Sun will get a lot of subscribers this way... but can they really sustain these prices? Or will they increase after a year? AFAIK, this promo of theirs will run for 6 months.

Is there a website where we could check their rates, packages, etc.? TIA

sana libre ang gprs sa sun and surfing the web thru pc. kapag ganoon ay tiyak na lilipat na ako doon

Local netwrk lng ang sun cellular! I gez dey dnt hav some services na mern ang globe and smart! Tska mura nga, pero bka nman klangan mo pang umakyat sa bubong ng bhay nyo at itapat sa ARAW para makakuha lng ng cgnal! Hehe! :-D Dnt xpect 2 much about d sun!

I think Sun Cellular is DIGITEL, So pag nag network search ka digitel ang lalabas! Saka ALCATEL ang humawak sa project ng cellular sites nila!

I was able to receive a call from a Sun mobile sim a week ago which proves that Globe and Sun are now connected.
I tried calling the number and since he was in Quezon at that time, it diverted me to his voice mailbox. The voice mailbox had the usual feature of leaving a voice message PLUS reviewing the caller's message, adding a message to the previous message or deleting and changing the voice message altogether.
I was told that as soon as the Sun subscriber reaches an area of coverage, a text message would inform him that a voice message has been left. If no message has been left by the caller (kung tamad), a text message would inform the Sun Subscriber that a call has been received from the missed caller's number (or name if in memory).
Sun's sims would be available to the public by the first week of April. Text however is presently not yet interconnected. GPRS would also be available and the network promises a better gprs coverage and possibly pricing than its competitors.
Expect more innovations from this new player.

Il wait and see for SUNs services to be truly interconectd with glb n smart esp in txting.Afterall,my house is around 2 km frm the celsites of glbe, smart and digitel.the 3 sites r just around 50-100 meters frm each other.

If SUN will have good feedback from its subscribers, maybe i'll switch. A lot of my officemates are actually interested in switching coz of the low rates.

Datz amazing! I cnt wait! Hehe! I hop deyl hav sim swap promo 2! Ü

Wat about prepaid subscription?
Posted by kevin2285
They have prepaid and postpaid! Actually 2001 ng ihayag ng digitel na gagawa ng sariling cell company at may mga kapartnerna big campanies pero limut ko na! ;-) i cnt w8 na malaban nya ang globe at smart! ;-)

Sun and Globe are now interconnected for BOTH voice and text.
Sims are available on April 6.

sana nga maging competitive ang rates ng sun kahit na dumami na subscribers nila. i also inquired at a sun center. unfortunately, wala pa daw cla as of now post-paid plan rates.

Curious remarks on this upcoming CMTS provider... Interesting. I'm surprised no one seems to really be concerned about the coverage. Would anybody know the extent of this? I hear GSM Phase I and II involves around 700 cell sites. Smart has 2,900. Is this a deterrent?
Posted by dlreyes
Globe started with around 250 cellsites while Smart around 200... it took them around 2 years to reach 750 cellsites.
For some it might be a turn off while others would take the risk just like when those 2 telcos were starting against giants Piltel, Smart (Etacs) and Extelcom... where are they now?
Posted by senninha
one thing to keep in mind is that cellsite technology has also advanced so that the new cellsites can cover larger areas than the older ones.
definitely there will be blind spots in the beginning, but if metro manila is adequately covered and if their rates are half of the competition, then sun shouldn't have too much trouble building critical mass.
at the end of the day, it's good for all of us subscribers for a newcomer to come and shake up the competition. better rates and better service (supposedly) for everyone.

its good that digitel has been raised from the dead, more options for us. so wala pa pala silang postpaid plans.
i have to commend them for bringing out dummy phones at southmall las pinas, at least people get to feel the phones esp the p800 and siemens.

Digitel is not dead, or did not die in the first place. They're making a killing on landline operations in the North, which is their service area.
Sun Cellular uses the most recent GSM infrastructure available (well, two years ago when the project kicked off)
I am renaming the topic to reflect the real name of the brand.

@crowing
puro post-paid nga ang meron. prepaid wala pa.
kala ko naduling ako dun ah!

what about mms?
Posted by Ganjaman
I don't doubt that the Gokongwei's are committed to be the third (fifth) player in this extremely competitive and lucrative arena. I think that interconnects on SMS will not be an issue and that the NTC, as toothless as it is, will be able to enforce this among the incumbents.
As a matter of maybe taking a mini-survey, for potential subs whats most important?
1) handset subsidies
2) Value added services i.e. GPRS, Voice mail, Infotext/Sim based cash transactions...
3) Lower voice and SMS rates
4) Geographic coverage and SMS interconnect.

#1 is making/receiving calls (or send/receving SMS) wherever and whenever i have to.

Posted by ynohtna
Digitel said that 2 years is their payback period when to recover their investments.Phase1 awarded to Alcatel.Phase 2 either to same company or to Ericsson. I do hope that they support ALMOST ALL BRANDS for their value added services like ringtone, logos, games dl.NOT JUST NOKIA ALONE.Pity the other brands who cnt download these.Take a look at glbes wap page:if you are not Nokia u cnt fully use most of their services.I do hope Sun supports all formats:not only java but for mophun,In fusio(phillips),etc.

think the cheap charges only apply to Sun to Sun calls. Calling other netwrks will b charged higher. Think i heard that in their radio commercial
Posted by Ganjaman
I dunno about 2 yrs payback, ROI of 50% p.a.? I think its cash break-even in 2 yrs or at 1m subs whichever comes first. Heard that the soft launch in DVO gathered some 100k subs already.
Is that sun-to-sun promo ONLY for the 1st 100k subs?
Posted by casperr
I reserved for 2 sims sa Sun. I dont know though if I will use it permanently. I mean the rates are lower but not that very low compared to other carriers. I dont know if it is enough to convince me to switch permanently. Maybe, when my friends are using SUN since thats where the 2/call applies and .50cents/text.
I hope they come out with other good plan or promo like maybe cheap MMS, cheap if not free GPRS. April 6 is not so far away when their SIMS become available but they havent announced much about the srvices they will be providing.
Posted by randyrivera
Next next week na launching nila
Posted by abe214
Wish they too offer free GPRS!
Posted by dlreyes
Sun's different plans with corresponding call/text charges are published in today's issue of the Philippine Star... seems that they would also offer MMS in their launching.
Posted by dlreyes
Sun prepaid sims are commercially available starting today.
Posted by jplacson
Does Sun Prepaid SIMs come with activated GPRS & MMS?
Posted by dlreyes
I was informed that there are instructions inside on how to have gprs activated... I will find out in a few minutes.
Posted by kevin2285
Free ba gprs nila?
Posted by triggerbokie
How much does a prepaid sim cost?s GPRS free?
Posted by dlreyes
Just got my Sun prepaid... no gprs but according to my contact, they would release settings once the post paid plans are released. Prepaid sims are Php 225 with Php 100 load. Prepaid cards are at P150, P300 and P500 denominations

got a pre-paid card too yesterday. i like "the mall" e-mail service. but signal is spotty. not so clear even in galleria. no gprs, and when it is activated, it wont be free.
Posted by JWBlue
i sent 3 messages to globe yesterday but the globe receipient never received it however it was still deducted frm my load. can we have this refunded? calling chito... ü
Posted by dlreyes
Erick, try their customer service... mine is working great... don't know about last night if the problem was in Sun or Globe's part... we'll verify.
Sun's post paid plans are consumable, meaning, the monthly service fee could be applied to NDD, IDD, text and other extra services... this reminds me of Smart's old plans which they are not offering now.
Posted by adv99576
kainis naman ang sun. ang hina ng signal sa amin. i always have to go out and "look for the sun" bago magka-signal. sana they launched their service when it's already fully functional. free text applicable to other networks pero bakit nabawas sa load ung text ko to globe? sabi ng customer service within this week pa raw magiging fully functional. tapos ang hirap pa mag-connect to Customer Service (200). isa pa, di ako makatawag sa Globe landline namin sa bahay. =(
my number is 0922-31013xx
but i still use my globe # 0917-99999xx

i have the same experience as JWBlue, sent 5 messages to diff. globe subscribers informing them of my new sun pre-paid, they never got them. but, it was deducted from my load. bummer. and yeah sometimes you have to "look for the sun" to get a signal. delayed na nga ang launch, masama pa rin ang service.
