The spec sheet sees a number of incremental bumps. Qualcomm's octa-core Snapdragon 810 CPU is doing the heavy lifting here, supported by 3GB of RAM, and the M9 also sees the welcome addition of Android 5.0 Lollipop, although the presence of HTC's Sense skin means users won't see such a dramatic aesthetic change between 4.4 and 5.0. The battery capacity has also been bumped up from 2,600mAh to 2,840mAh, which, when combined with the new Snapdragon, will hopefully see the M9 last a full day with ease.

Perhaps the biggest change comes in the form of a new rear-facing camera unit. HTC called an abrupt stop to the megapixel wars with the introduction of its UltraPixel tech, which used large, less densely packed pixels that absorbed more light. That's all gone this time around, as there's now a more conventional 20-megapixel sensor set in a square camera unit at the rear of the phone. HTC is promising big things from this camera, touting its f/2.2, 27.8mm lens and, thanks to the bump in pixel count, 4K video recording. It's not abandoning UltraPixel entirely, however, as it's using that technology for its front-facing camera.

Build quality will be awesome as expected but despite the CPU the phone is about a year too late spec wise. The majority of the new tech seems to be software based so if you're not that bothered about the camera I'd get an m8 at a knock down price and wait for the new Sense update to roll out.

Posted by aussieland1
Hmm. ...it still has a better camera and plus the CPU is 64 bit. Plus it has 32 gb internal memory , better GPU - me personally I would still get this over m8 (but I won't as I am into phablets )

I'm liitle dissapointing from One M9 - little M8 upgrade. But M9 is nice phone for normal money 700-750EU , as price/specs is much better than Galaxy S6 Edge for 900-1049EU Camera in One M9 is Toshiba manifacturer model20.7mp Toshiba T4KA7 , nice samples see here. Few nice M9 images

Posted by aussieland1
One attractive thing about the M8 is that is going to be cheaper than the s6 and plus it has as card.

Posted by Sassho
^Yes , One M9 is smarter choise than amazing expensive Galaxy S6 series. As plus Sense 7 , SD slot , 20mp camera , Stereo Boom Sound speakers.

I'm in disagreement for the following reasons:

1. on-board ram and storage ... especially DDR4 is always faster than a MicroSD card. Also it uses less power as there is no need for a separate chipset component to manage power going to the MSD.

2. Better design this time I'm sorry goes to the S6 and the S6 Edge!
that unibody with slippery metal is getting old VERY fast!

3. Build Quality .... Gorilla Glass 4 is supposed to be legit. Nobody knows first hand just yet but depending on the density it could be spectacular. Also note the metal edge is part of the internal sub-frame adding to regidity. The HTC M9 seems like a hard candy coated shell while the insides may rattle about quite a bit.

The HTC One M9 seems better for a Windows Phone option for v10 late this year, while that 2 metal outter frame being raised not only looks ugly and so mid-90's it just feels old.

Friend you're wrong. The resolution of the image sensor integrated TOSHIBA at One M9 is not of 20.7 megapixels, THIS resolution belongs to the image sensors from Sony, specifically models IMX200 and IMX220.
The integrated sensor in ONE M9 is the TOSHIBA T4KA7 model which has a total resolution of 20.2 megapixels and an effective resolution of 20.1 megapixels!

I like same S6 Edge , but price in 1049EU is terrible lot. One M9 much better as specs/price , main advantages are SD Slot and 20mp camera.

He did not have to prove anything to you!

The guy brought a correct information and came to write nonsense?

You want evidence, then there's the proof:

P.S: Full Resolution: 20.2 MEGAPIXELS... Effective Resolution: 20.1 MEGAPIXELS

Sorry Shei , I don't understand why you'r sure that M9 not has Toshiba sensor. We will return later to this question.

One M9 camera samples - this is not Exmor quality , I'm sure for this

Update:

new samples , much better

Hello Sassho... In fact HTC's M9 camera is not the best on the market, but in my view only the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and recent Samsung Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge overcome and HTC's standards this is quite an accomplishment !

For example the new M9 handily beats the Sony Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact !!!

On Pocketnow on the M8 review it says that HTC left out OIS on the M8 due to the dual cameras so why is there no OIS on the M9? as it hasn't got dual cameras on the M9.

Also, the aperature has increased from f/2.0 on the M7 and M8 to f/2.2 on the M9, it should have at least stayed at f/2.0 or changed to f/1.9 or lower.

In my opinion the higher aperature and the lack of OIS are big mistakes and might stop people buying the phone due to not quite so good camera I think.
[ This Message was edited by: northmonkey on 2015-03-23 15:33 ]

Posted by emerson_shei
Northmonkey... Probably the OIS was left out because it would affect the thickness of the device.

Just remember that the M7 did have OIS, however had a tiny image sensor 1/3", while the new M9 has a sensor 1/2.4".

Finally, the absence of OIS and a larger lens opening is not big problems of M9 camera... The problem is really, post photographic processing, which is the same problem for all SONY'S (Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact and etc).

The lens present in the M9 is very good, the integrated image sensor is one of the best in the market and the dual LED flash has a good range, the big problem is the post-processing, the HTC fix it and find a good balance between noise reduction and sharpening, the M9 camera can be as good as the Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge that today are the best cameras of all phones sold.

I read on several reviews that the sensor size is 1/2.3" which is bigger than the Note 4 and Galaxy 6.

Also, I like the fact that you can adjust shutter speed on the M9 as you can't do that on any Sony or Samsung phone.

Posted by emerson_shei
Northmonkey... You're wrong... The integrated image sensor in the HTC ONE M9 does not have the size of 1/2.3", the correct size is 1/2.4".

Sources below that confirm what I write here:

http://www.techradar.com/revi[....]ones/htc-one-m9-1285623/review

http://www.phonearena.com/new[....]oprietary-pixel-design_id66390

Finally, have the best hardware is useless if the software does not help.
If the best hardware would be enough to define the quality of a camera, the Panasonic CM1 with its huge image sensor (1") would be the best, however it loses to clearly for the Nokia 808 PureView, which has a sensor smaller image (1/1.2").

Both devices are great , camera / video in SGS6 is better , but M9 camera not so bad. To succeed HTC should down the price of One M9. I like M9 metal body and design.

M9 display looks very old-school with this big black bezels.

Just read AnandTech's Review, really shocking stuff, that Snapdragon 810 seems to be a truly rubbish SoC especially considering its a 20nm chip, it has let the M9 down greatly, I feel bad for the poor souls who will get phones with such a POS chip.
