Welcome to the The official Esato phone camera shootout competition for March 2014

For this month I have chosen SUNRISE & SUNSETS
The reason I have chosen this subject is either first thing in the morning as the sun comes up or just as sun is going doing we get some fantastic colours, cloud shapes, landscapes and even weather effected sunrises and sunsets. This theme will be easy for all to take part and hopefully show some superb photos from around the world.

HERE ARE SOME PHOTOS I FOUND ON GOOGLE FOR SOME INSPIRATION.

Normal rules apply
Every member can enter with one photo, which must be taken in March.
Photo has to be taken with a phone camera.
Picture must be uploaded to Esato’s photo section.
Post processing is not allowed.
You have the right to change your entry but only once.
Host is the final judge to decide if a photo is valid or not.

Good luck to all that enter and lets hope for a busy month with some fantastic photos.

This is a great theme, I promise an amazing entry this month, hopefully the wather will be warm soon. I love sunsets and sunrises! I will go to an early morning session as soon as I can, but it has to be warm.

Posted by XperiaJunkie
Its great to see you are all loving this month theme to be honest I was a little nervous with my first ever contribution to a shootout.

As long as we get sunshine

I just can't get over the fact I forgot February is shorter, and I missed last month's theme...

Anyway, one of my favorite themes for this month. I hope I can get something nice. Going to the beach tomorrow. Hopefully someday I get to wake up really early to see the sunrise and take a good picture...

If not, well, I will find something...

Posted by hihihans
It's a beautiful sunny day here. Let's hope it stays like that.

Posted by XperiaJunkie
^ It is horrible and overcast here in north east England. Fingers crossed we get some sun in the next few weeks, good luck if your trying to get a couple of shots tonight.

Posted by Bonovox
Well as they said UK is set to get warmer later this week

Posted by hihihans
Clouds tend to get beautiful colours when the sun goes down. Great looking photos guaranteed

Posted by XperiaJunkie
Personally I want to get a very good sunset shot maybe down at the coast where we have priories and old historic buildings which should come out fantastic given the right conditions

Posted by tranced
Congratulations, XJ!

For this month is unacceptable to get less than 10 entries. I, personally, love sun photos. I will get on the roof very often this March.

I remember autumn's were awesome.

Loving the positive feedback for this months shootout has this been a theme before and and any chance we could view the entries just to see how good the competition was then.

Isn't it always like that in the north east? I grew up in Yorkshire and that was bad enough even with the rain shadow of the Pennines.

Moisture in the air helps produce more unusual/spectacular colours in the sky (as it is the refraction of sunlight through the atmosphere's water that defines colours of our sky). Just as long as the clouds clear a touch.

I want to see a picture of a guy in a canoe on a deserted, flooded UK High Street with a red sunset behind him, reflecting in the ripples of the flood. Just the tops of cars and shop banners showing above the water.

I miss the England

Posted by XperiaJunkie
^ I can actually see blue sky today which to be honest I have rarely seen since September . Some cracking shots are of that i'm sure from all parts of the world.

Posted by hihihans
Yesterday the sun just went down. No colours, no nothing.

Posted by XperiaJunkie
^ Still plenty of time to get that perfect shot hopefully we will get some entries soon though.

As WB is not postprocessing...

Yesterday's sunset

Fantastic shot there exactly what I was wanting from this months theme. Congrats on being the first of hopefully many to come.

Posted by hihihans
Nice one @tranced, you've set the standard

What's the validity status on moving pictures like can be taken with the new camera app modules on the Xperia 4.3 firmwares?

Does esato gallery even accept them and display them correctly?

To my understanding so long as the picture is not altered in anyway AFTER the shutter is pressed, it is valid. However with some of the advancements in apps and whatnot, this may need be revisited.... It would be cool if allowed as Nokia has the smartcam and cinemagraph lenses which would be cool to use.

Posted by hihihans
Moving pictures are movies.
Photos only in the shootout.

Posted by hihihans
I took this this morning. I love how you can see that it's still dark on the left side of the photo while in the south Amsterdam can already enjoy the sun.

^ Love the colours it a great shot, I can see this months shootout being very hard to vote for.

Posted by Bonovox
One of your best shots Hans Here is mine taken on top of new central library rooftop garden. Sunset over Birmingham just white balance changed to cloudy & EV lowered

Posted by XperiaJunkie
@bonovox cracking shot there mate great use of the white balance to bring out more colours

Posted by Bonovox
Cheers mate it was freezing up there too I had to use white balance as the colours were bland in the sky

Nice one. Better than mine

Posted by itsjustJOH
No full res bronx?

Posted by XperiaJunkie
Superb shot Bronxdude but we need a the original image uploaded to the photo section for it to be a valid entry.

Posted by hihihans
@bronxdude. Sorry but your entry is not valid. It should be taken this month, not february. Please try again.

Posted by DexterMoser
Wonderful pictures you have there guys!
Bonovox's is my favorite right now

I'm trying to get a good shot, too. Is the use of HDR mode valid or should I use auto mode?

Posted by Bonovox
Of course HDR is valid yes. And thanks for the compliment

Posted by XperiaJunkie
Well according to Google the sun will set at 5:57 PM exactly here in Newcastle, the sun is out and its windy so hopefully so good cloud formations and a cracking sunset is on the cards. Fingers crossed anyway.

Posted by pohuman
Awesome shots my friends!! Maybe I can join this competition..
