Press Release

LG AND GOOGLE INTRODUCE GOOGLE NEXUS 5
Slimmest and Fastest Nexus Phone Ever Now Available Online in Select Markets

SEOUL, Nov. 1, 2013 — Following the success of Nexus 4, LG and Google have
partnered again to deliver the first smartphone featuring the latest Android operating
system, Android 4.4, KitKat. Packed with new features, Nexus 5 is the slimmest and
fastest Google Nexus phone to date.

With a stunning 5-inch Full HD IPS display, Nexus 5 boasts an expansive screen for an
unrivaled visual experience. The lightweight smartphone comes in both 16GB and
32GB versions and is the perfect combination of powerful performance, functionality
and convenience thanks to LG’s proven hardware and best of Google software and
services.

“LG is proud to partner with Google again to develop the fastest, most powerful Nexus
phone ever,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile
Communications Company. “Nexus 5 offers the ultimate functionality in a modern
design and is a testament to the level of innovation that can be generated when two
great companies come together for a second act.”

“We’re excited to collaborate with LG on a new Nexus device,” said Sundar Pichai,
senior vice president of Android, Chrome and Apps at Google. “Google Nexus 5 is the
slimmest and fastest Nexus phone to date and puts the latest platform innovations of
Android 4.4, KitKat, right in the hands of consumers.

Capturing the Moments that Matter
The camera in Nexus 5 features LG Innotek’s acclaimed optical image stabilizer
technology which was first introduced in the LG G2. Mated to an 8MP camera with
longer exposures, less blur and less noise, Nexus 5 is unmatched in dim light

Global Market
Nexus 5 also includes Photo Sphere making it easy to capture a series of
photos and turn them into a seamless 360-degree experience. And Google can create
Auto Awesome photos and movies from the content in your library to share with friends
and family. Moreover, the improved HDR+ mode in Nexus 5 instantaneously captures a
burst of shots and applies computational photography to intelligently fuse these images
together into one perfect photo with a greater range of shadows and light culled from
the multiple exposure and color data.

Packed with Power & Speed
Nexus 5 is the world’s first phone running Android 4.4, KitKat, offering the power of
Google in a thin and lightweight device that still manages to feel solid and reassuring.
With a blazing fast SnapdragonTM 800 processor and 4G/LTE, Nexus 5 also boasts a 445 ppi Full HD IPS display with advanced in-cell touch technology that enables faster
touch recognition, better outdoor visibility and crisper images. This set of features is
packaged in a sleek, modern design that leaves no doubt that this is Google’s premium
smartphone.

Best of Google
Android 4.4 is fast and powerful yet simple to use. The new dialer automatically
suggests people the most likely call while Caller ID by Google matches an incoming
phone number to a business even if that number isn’t stored in the contact list. Users can
send and receive text messages directly from Hangouts, and Hangouts for Android now
supports location sharing.

With Gmail, Chrome, Calendar, Maps, Drive and Hangouts, Nexus 5 helps users
manage their day-to-day lives with familiar, easy-to-use applications. With Google
Now, initiating a voice search is as simple as saying “Ok, Google,” and with more than
one million apps and games plus movies, books and music on Google Play, it’s easier
than ever to find what you’re looking for.

Nexus 5 will be available for purchase in either black or white, no contract required, on
Google Play™ starting today in the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Italy,
Spain, U.K., Australia, Korea and Japan. Offline availability in Europe, Central/South
Americas, Asia, CIS and the Middle East will begin in mid-November.

Finally! I was getting so annoyed with all the damn leaks, it was just about time they just unveiled it.

All specs exactly as expected, it's basically a LG G2 with a less powerful Camera, and the latest stock Android build. A decent update from the LG Nexus 4.

No expandable memory as usual

Carphone selling at £295 sim free. Battery is too small again too

Posted by AbuBasim
Biggest Nexus 5 will only have 32 GB and still no memory card slot? If Google's reason for this is to push people towards their cloud (i.e. streaming movies and music instead of storing on the phone), why then 32 GB? What was wrong with 16 GB as the maximum? Even 8 GB should be more than enough if all you load on the phone are apps and trust the rest to Google's cloud.

Posted by luwi
any guess if the screen quality of nexus 5 will be same quality as lg g2? If yes, that will be awesome!

Posted by hihihans
Everything in the cloud is very uncomfortable when your connection is low.
I prefer to use the cloud as backup only.

Posted by etaab
The usual limitations.

The tv ad is incredibly boring too !

Nice phone though.

Posted by Bonovox
Well the Nexus 4 had 2,100mAh battery which was terrible. Now this has 1080p screen and they only increased the battery by 200mAh. Not wise

Posted by >500
Ordered one yesterday a few hours after announcement. Due to be delivered Monday. If not, then Wednesday. (tues public holiday = no courier). Chose the white one. Something different. Ill end up putting a case on it probably so should have just went black!

Battery not a concern for me. Will easily last a day and I charge my phone overnight all the time. KitKat is 'meant' to be more efficient, obviously the s800 CPU is as well. Will soon find out! The Nexus 4 battery was quite decent imho, easily lasted the day.

Screen seems to be just as good as G2 from early reports.

Memory isnt an issue, my 16gb nexus 4 ive had since earlier this year has never gone below 9GB available storage! I have a sony android mp3 player so.........

Been away for quite some time, as you all know anyway, but have to get these points in for the benefit of others.

Whilst we know most of the specs are amazing, the overall Nexus phone experience just isn't if the Nexus 4 is anything to go by, and I think it is, I mean, compared to the competition, the Nexus 4 was way ahead, the Nexus 5 isn't at all.

Firstly, bugs are here to stay for the long run. Google hardly ever send out minor updates. Any bugs stay for quite a while before they leave.

Secondly, there's NOTHING exciting. At all. Nothing to look forward to. The only 'special' thing is we get updates faster. I'd rather have Sony's 4.1 over Google 4.4. And we get updates for longer? Whilst we've heard it's a TI issue why the gnex won't be getting any more updates, if the world doesn't cry itself dead, what's stopping Google stopping updates for the N4 after 18 months?

Also, the build quality. Corners HAVE been cut. Rest assured. Especially you early adopters. This is one of them.

Now the price. In the N4 days, it was just crazy. It still it. But not as much. Why? Well, you could have the Nexus flagship for 2 years in the cost of having one flagship from any other manufacturer. Now, it's more than that. Still the best value for money phone on the market by far. But one flagship from a manufacturer like Sony is way better.

Needless to say, the N4 has horrendous battery life, I'm expecting the N5 to keep that up.

Screen should be amazing though, but if based on the g2 again, then cold.

Camera should be rubbish.

The phone is ugly. But I said the same about the N4 until I saw it in the flesh, and realised it was actually pretty beautiful, just not photogenic.

Delivery should be good in the UK.

Seriously guys, don't be tempted, invest in a proper flagship for many years rather than this for a shorter period.

Posted by Caspa
All I can say is wow, I'm impressed.

At £295 it blows EVERYTHING else away, period.

Build quality appears to be top notch and we already know the 800 is a beast. Camera is a massive upgrade also. Can't comment on battery yet but I'm hoping the 800 lives up to its efficiency hype.

This is a proper flagship, I can't see how it considered anything but?!

LMAO yeah I can ... the first two pictures of the Apple Laptop keyboard photographed BOTH show an ASUS in the display reflection LMAO. The first one actually looks too much like the camera arpeture of the Nexus 4 but the title states Nexus 5.

Take a good look.

But there is a very good improvement in the N5 camera to the N4. Those shots are not a good comparison at all

Got myself a 32 GB Nexus 5 a couple of weeks ago. It is a very well built phone with a great screen. And it is the fastest phone I have ever had, never a stutter or lag. Camera is good and will improve further with Android L (Raw support) which of course will be available on this one when released

Posted by tranced
