Some of you might remember me as a die hard fan.
I allways had the latest model and wasted a fair bit on money on mobile phones.
Now, yesterday things changed! My iPhone4s arrived. My first ever Apple product!
The "wow factor" when it comes to mobile phones is yesteryears to me but this phone put a grin on my face.
After less than 24 hrs use I feel really comfy with it. Even though a lot is new it is not too different to Android.
So, setting it up was a walk in the park.
What amazes me with this phone is the feel. It really feels like darn good phone.
I never thought I'd say this, and it feels like swearing in church; Good bye

is practically dead 6 months ago
to put the pun aside, iPhone is truly pleasant to use, the UI did not really get any massive change since its conception unlike Android but I personally think it doesn't look antiquated.

I know how you feel. When I jumped onto the Android bandwagon and got an HTC Desire, my first non-Sony Ericsson / Ericsson phone is over 6 years (my only other one had been a brief liaison with a Nokia 7110), I felt like I was having an illicit affair. I have not looked back though the Xperia S made me take a second look. I also agree with you about iOS. I have an iPad 2 and it is a joy. Beat the Android tablets that I tried when I was considering the purchase.

Having had mostly SEs and having had my X10 nearly 2years, i also felt weird about leaving Sony/SE for Samsung, but the moment i began using my GS2 i knew i had made the best decision, and looking at their current range im even happier with my decision.

Congrads on your iPhone4S tranquil! Enjoy it!

I love the new Sony phones now. Apple, nah

Posted by Tsepz_GP
I like the Xperia Acro S, THAT is a real flagship smartphone, just wish it ran the newer Qualcomm Krait.

Whats wrong with ? Seriously has anyone used the 2011 phones? They are possibly their best phones. My Xperia Neo V is on par with the iphone 4 if not better with its functionality & HDMI output. Android yes used to be woeful but post Gingerbread after has been a dream. I decided not to jump onto ICS with my Neo V because 2.3.4 is reallyu silky smooth and i use 3rd party apps for my music and multimedia.

I have tried all other manufacturers and really nothing compares to my xperia. Its simple like the iphone, easy to setup, quick and fill it up with a 32GB card and its a multimedia monster!

So before commenting that went downhill and jumping onto Apples or Oranges (haha!) just try the last of the line and really you will be annoyed that made that move in the first place!

@Chunkybeats,

While their 2011 devices were okay, they wernt anywhere close to satisfying any high end user. Moreover, i beg to differ on the silky smooth part. Its only silky smooth when you keep reformating it or its new. Otherwise its a lag fest, Especially the redrawing part(as observed on arc s, arc, neo, neo v). Imo you guys deserve much better than that, which i hope sony does something about it.

@Geezay,

I wish i never bought ipad2 . Its not like its bad, but Its so limited, you need to use apps for everything. I would have sold it if i hadnt invested in alot of apps. I actually liked tablet s more than it. It feels more natural to hold and use. Although honeycomb was kind of shit.

Tranquil welcome to Apple lol

Must say though, i thoroughly enjoyed holding and using the Arc S and Play late last year, but yeah, after long term usage they are lagfests.

WRT the iPad, thats exactly why i went with the GT10.1, even though Android3.0 had bugs, i prefer the "mini-laptop" nature of Android tablets than the "giant iPod Touch" nature of an iPad, it cant even Email attachments, its so useless in some cases.

Congrats on your iPhone 4s.Before I got my S2 the iPhone was 2nd on my list after I decided against the Note.If I ever get bored of Android I will most probably join you in Appleland. But the way Samsung are going at the moment that could be a very long time from now.

Posted by chunkybeats
wellI I must be the only user to not suffer lag I have had my phone for 9 months now, whatever you were doing with that phone, mine is silky smooth. I don't need to look at newer phones,. my neo v can play emulator games quite smoothly unlike crappy iphone which is restricted and even if it's jail broken its terribly slow! you tube n64 emulators and compare it to the neo, the neo flies through!

Posted by Geezay
@Tsepz CGP
@djin

WRT iPad 2, I have to agree with you on how limited it is. Fortunately enough I was getting it purely for consumption of multimedia and gaming so have not really suffered from inability to easily attach documents to emails - I say easily because it can be done, but... So I am painlfully aware of its limitations, but with the right arsenal of apps aimed at my consumption needs, it is a joy, and was a better experience than the honeycomb devices I tried. Unless iOS 7 is revolutionary, when I upgrade I will probably go Android, but then Windows 8 tablets might be out then. Aah, the joys of technology

Posted by Miss UK
Chunkybeats, Android 2.1, 2.2 great but 2.3 fail on
I really did hate the update of my x10i but it was a good phone
had better battery life then my HTC !

Android is a nice OS but iOS feels more maturer
and the iPhone also looks expensive other then some of these Androids
there knocking out these days

Posted by Bonovox
I'd dump Apple and go back to your ex Android

Posted by Miss UK
Neh I don't miss android its kidsplay stuff (Live wallpaper... who needs that )

Posted by Bonovox
Kidsplay?? Live wallpapers is just an extra feature you can do it's not all Android is. Apple OS is too restricted

Posted by Miss UK
The Only thing I see where Apple merely disapoints is Flash Player its unsupported on iDevices.
but a little bird tells me that flash is ceasing in the longrun anyway

Android phones they can download MP3's straight from Google
but Apple relys on the iTunes and APP Store, Items available from Googles market for those androids
are generally free but iPhone has free stuff too both slightly the same overall but iPhone is more mature

Posted by hihihans
wPhone has no flash either and that hurts more as I expected. Html5 is growing but it goes so slow

Posted by Tsepz_GP
The Flash Player/HTML5 story has been a funny one. I've watched iOS fans claim they don't need it then backtrack.
I used my mum's iPhone the other day quite extensively and i was shocked at just how many wdbsites aren't using HTML5, many are still using Flash, made me really appreciate my Androids as i never have to worry about such little things when browsing on any of them, all support HTML5 AND Flash Player11, all i do is click to watch a video not caring what format it is, on the iPhone and iPad you are presented with blank spaces in a page.

Another thing, lack of Bluetooth file transfer in iOS is shockingly inconvenient. If i record a video thats large e.g. a 15min video at HD720P i cant just send it to the iPhone, i have to go to a PC or upload that huge vid to a file sharing service...like WTF!? Whereas with my X10, GS2 and Galaxy Tab10.1 i can share the video, document, pic etc... amongst them in seconds.

Having to use iTunes just to load music -_- like really??? If you want to go to another PC you must make sure it has iTunes installed.

No setting default apps in iOS, i feel like im using a "dumb"phone again due to this, in Android i can set a 3rd party that i like to be the default for web browsing, SMS, Camera, Calls, Launcher, etc...

I could go on for days on what iOS lacks next to Android, its why i'd rather have some knock-off eg a Huawei than buy a glorified iPod Touch that phones aka iPhone, but thats me.

+1 and no File Manager or Expendable Memory

Posted by hihihans
yep. So inconvinient

Posted by Bonovox
And why do Apple insist on the only way to first time turn on an iPhone you have to plug into iTunes?? Why can't you just turn it on?? ITunes has to be the worst software along with Zune ever. ITunes always crashes on Windows.

Posted by djin
Even though we all love to bash ios, it does somethings alot better than android. It has great accessibility features, simple and easy to use ui, etc. For whom its targeted at, It does perfectly what it is supposed to do! Its targeted users are people who have always found a smart phone to be smart. Hence, its a revolutionary smart phone made dumb. So people can cope up with it. Thats why it lacks anything such as file manager that can be challenging people. But truth to be told, android lacks file manager too.

For me its android(earlier symbian), But for my parents, its an iphone. I havent used 4.0 very much, but i believe you cannot even increase the size of fonts in that too, its too tiny. There are some reasons why I hate android and love iphone, but many more reasons why I love android more.

As for windows phone, its like ios, but you gotta use zune instead of itunes. Oh and any technological advancements made is useless until it supports it.

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Bono
Wait, the iPhone still requires iTunes at 1st boot???
I know the iPads dont need that as i helped two of my mates setup their iPad2s in december.

Djin
I guess it depends what Android you buy WRT file manager, as the Samsung Galaxy phones come with one built-in, known as My Files.

Posted by titus1
I'm using both OS'es. An iPod Touch 4th Gen (yes, not an iPhone...but still)
When I do compare an app that were built on both OS..it really feels better on iOS. Better laid out so to speak. I'm still giving iOS an Ace on overall feel.

Posted by Hobbs
Both OS's rock.It all depends what floats your boat.

Posted by Bonovox
I still prefer Windows over Android but right now there is not enough decent Windows devices around.

Posted by Miss UK
If you have iOS 5 then u don't need
To firstly setup to get the phone going
iPad or iPod touch etc

U can get going via WiFi

For huge updates the idevices will
Tell u to use Wifi and connect to iTunes

Bono which version of SW did ur old
iPhone have?! Lol

Posted by hihihans
Every OS has things missing and every OS had something to desire. Now I forgot what I was trying to say

My thoughts,
Android; most possibilities
iOS; best apps
wPhone; easiest to use

Posted by Bonovox
How can I remember two years back what software my iPhone 4 had?? Windows is also smoothest and has everything extremely well integrated

When it's two years ago for you, why are you still posting this old knowledge here as a fact then? Considering that you're changing phones at least twice a month, you of all people must know, that in the world of smartphones, two years equal an eternity.

Posted by Bonovox
And what's it to you??

Posted by Miss UK
Hans that's true but I think Angry Birds (first game)
Is abit better on a Android phone lol

Posted by tranquil
Well, toget thos topic back on track;
I've used my iPhone for about a week now and I can't praise it enough for my use.
It's not about adding as many apps as possible or filling the memory up with films and music anymore.
It's about having a reliable phone that makes my days at the office easier.
The Experia Arc I had couldn't cope after a while; it got slow and the battery lasted about four hours in the end.
Yes, it took a bit of getting used to but now the iPhone does exactly what I expect of my phone as a tool. Now I just call it "my leatherman".
I'm a happy bunny with my iPhone4s

Posted by Miss UK
TranQuil that's great you have had a first
Great week with ur 4S also I'm glad u have a iPhone
Aswell as there's not many owners here to leave
Much input anymore

Btw tho glad u like it iOS 6 is due this Autumn
Seems they have added a things to look forward to anyway

Am still not that convinced with WP yet. Have to wait around 2 years more to view where they were heading. WP really has a great potential though. I mean, Lumia + PureView?

Posted by Miss UK
Windows 6 Mobile was abit dainted but the newer
Version 7 is loads better I've played with a few WP
From HTC and thought they were excellent to use

Not been able to play with any live Nokias at present
Carrying that OS sadly !!!

Btw I've heard Windows 8 is the one to lookout for
So

Anyway back on topic

Posted by Geezay
WP7 is certainly smooth and very refined. A few things bug me though, like the inability to have multiple mobile numbers stored per person? The availability of apps priced at a premium for the WP7 platform, with the same apps being free on Android also scares many potential adopters away like myself.
[ This Message was edited by: Geezay on 2012-06-18 07:57 ]

Posted by razec
As much as I would like to praise WP7's near perfect smoothness I think it's because there's hardly any complex UI element to run except the live tiles. and the lack of proper multitasking like Android also ensures that even a meager-by-Android-standards Snapdragon S1/S2 + 512MB combo would do the job no sweat. If WP8 arrives and becomes as functional as the X86 version of Windows 8 which is considered very light by PC standards, I'm pretty sure we'll need Tegra 4 8-core SoC or even a heavily die-shrunken Core i3 ivy bridge to run the software choke-free.

Posted by Tsepz_GP
+1 Razec!
People very conveniently like to forget to take those things into account when comparing WP to Android, especially if they are a WP fan.
Thats why im also waiting to see WP8, if it has the same amount if not more functionality than Android and STILL manages to run as smoothly as it does now THEN i'll be impressed.

I find it hard to take any current WP seriously as a smartphone, the Lumia range included, my 4year old K850i seems smarter than these WPs, they are incredibly limited, a complete 180 from the powerful and unbelievably functional WM6.5, which just needed a better UI, but i guess the very base of that OS was far too old and would have required a ton of investment to be brought up to standard with WebOS, Android and iOS UIs.

I heard MS have some sort of Microsoft Surface tablet arriving soon this sounds intresting
Microsoft Surface tablet vs Apple iPad 3: Can Microsoft beat Apple tab
lol

Posted by Bonovox
Windows will still run smoothly with all the new features. Why do I think that?? Well unlike Android it has no fragmentation and MS has strict rules on their OS in every phone. Like the Nexus pure Google phones or ISO run smooth cos no bloatware crap.

Posted by djin
Windows phone 7.8 and windows phone 8, its already fragmented.

Spot on!

Fragmentation is unavoidable in this tech industry. As long as hardware and software improvements continue to be made, the older devices will sooner or later be unable to run the latest software. Innovation aside, there is also the business side - OEMs want, need people to upgrade and get the latest devices so that they make more money.

Will the 'lesser' Windows Phones running the 'downgraded' version of WP with 256MB of RAM run WP7.8? Even more fragmentation?

Posted by Bonovox
This is good news
http://m.gsmarena.com/newscomm-4424.php

I was mearly stating that WP does not have the what Android has with all manufacturers having different overlays over Android OS. This causes the lag and other problems but MS does not allow any of that
