farewell and goodbye - until the next life.

3 months ago, in fact a day after my 50th birthday, I was told I had terminal cancer. I went through the usual phases of disbelief, rejection, fear, anger etc that my councillor talked me through but that didn't make acceptance any easier. Some have noticed me posting less and less. Now I have finally accepted my fate and will be heading back to oz soon to die in the sun and surf that I know so well.

Sadly, against my normal calm and peaceful nature, I have been quite bitter lately and have taken that out on family, friends, and even some members here. For that, I appologise to all unresevedly.

I don't know how much time I have (do any of us really know?), but I do feel that I must make the most of what I do have and unfortunately Esato does not feature in my priorities.

so now on this sunny Sunday London afternoon in February 2012 I say goodbye to Esato and commit online hari-kari (self ban)... and if I can offer anything of meaning and importance to you all, the best I can come up with is that it has been fun!... live long and prosper!

Nan, Grandad... I'm scared but I am comforted that I will see you both soon!

I'm shocked.

All I can say is thank you for all the work here and hope you have peaceful last days.

It certainly has been fun masseur and this place would undeniably never have been the same without you. I have lost close family and friends through cancer but what I remember is the great times we had together.

You will certainly not be forgotten, not by anyone who has visited Esato.

Farewell - till we all meet again.

Sadly we often forgot that have to live our lives like we wont be here for long... and actually we never know how much longer we`ll be here. So as I`m extreamly sad to hear this news, even though we don`t know us personally I wish you to have the life you always dream of, to do the things you always want and maybe fear to do, to let your beloved persons how much they mean to you ... and to be satisfied!!!

farewell

Thanks, masseur, for posting this here, giving us the opportunity to say something, even though it's hard.

Thank you for the effort you've put in keeping Esato the way it is, which is why many of us enjoy coming here, even long after we've switched away from SE to other brands. For many years you've managed to do this on your own, being the only active mod, before tranced joined you.

I sincerely hope your condition will allow you, to make the most of the time you've left, together with your wife, son, daughter, family and friends.

Farewell, we won't forget you.

Oh my god masseur I am so sorry I wanna wish you the best and never any hard feelings I cannot believe it. I feel so sad by this :'(

I can't find a way to tell what I'm feeling right now. This feeling has got all over me and the tears are the only way to let you know.

It was really fun to have you with us and all I can wish you is to spend the time you have left in peace. Surrounded by the ones who care about you and like wise.

I will miss you a lot. My prayers will be with you.

Dear masseur,

I am so shocked to hear this. Esato is like my family and you are one of the chief and important part of my this family. I cant think Esato without you. I always loved you and continue to love you. I am writing these with heavy heart and kinda pain in my mind. My eyes have tears. I love you. Thank you, thank you, thank you for everything you did for Esato and for us. Thank you is such a small word to express our feelings for you. ( i am all chocked up) This is like loosing one of family member.

May God bless you with your remaining life and my sincere pray to God, in next life, pls dont give my dear Masseur to suffer this illness. Next life, he has all right to live happily and have to have life of at least 70+ years. Amen

It was a very long time ago since I posted here. Kind of drifted off as I have been using non-SE phones for a while.

But coming back and reading this is very sad. Like a very hard slap in the face.

@masseur,
All the best for the time you have left of this life and then in the next. You will be missed and Esato will not be the same without you

None of us know what fate has in store for us. For some, the end comes very suddenly. For others, this comes announced in advance. I don't know if either is better. Perhaps to know when it is going to happen is best, as it gives a chance to put affairs in order.

Posted by mriley
So sad to hear this we all wish you the greatest happiness in the world, hope you have peace in oz and enjoy the time you have with family and friends. We will all miss you, esato wont be the same without you

Posted by Bonovox
I did wonder masseur why you were so choked up about when Whitney Houston passed away and you said you wondered about your own mortality. Makes me sad thinking of that.

This is a really sad day. Even though I don't know you irl masseur, you have been a part of my daily life for a whole decade, always calming me down with your PM responses and handling my bickering with a smile and positiveness.
I couldn't say the same for more then a few people outside my family.

Even today when I was an idiot you ended it on a positive note

You will be greatly missed!

cheers!

Masseur that's a lovely beach in Australia there. You go sit on it put your feet up & enjoy a good drink watching the Aussie sunset Bickering?? What bickering, it's just different views it does not matter

Very sad news indeed, is kind of a bitter farewell as I've personally lost close relatives to this.

Just hope you find inner peace and spend your time with your loving ones. We all thank you for what you did (ESATO project), this community I've made my closest friends to date. My blessings are with you and your family.

Myself too my mother lost to this too

Shit
So sorry to hear this.
We will miss you.

OMG.

This is the most terrible thing I have heard this year. I don't know what more to say. I have been a long time admirer of this man and it has kept me amazed how he has stayed put on Esato even while most of us "early" members moved on to other phases of our lives.

While everyone of us will pass away some day, I sincerely hope this somehow turns out to be some kind of wrong prognosis and Masseur will be back with us soon.

All those PM's I have received from him will be cherished always.

Salute to our oldest and the most handsome mod!

Here's the only picture I have of him.

From an old favourite thread from 2004.

Many thanks to @goldenface for pointing me here!

The only photo we ever had of Masseur

Was that pic taken in prison, black n white stripes.

Some say you'll be rewarded for your actions in a next live. King Masseur.

Hello, my dear fellow Esatonians here . . . a friend from India (Rahul), showed me this LINK just now (thru FaceBook, the place where I've been sooo BUSY these days - my 4th year, making DAILY posts like what I used to do here for the 5 years back then). I'm very saddened by this news. Masseur had been so KIND to me here in Esato. I accept every rebuked he gave me when I go astray with my usual postings here . . and sometimes with that of my - behavior too. Seriously, I do MISS this place . . 'been my 2nd home from 2003-2008 To my dear friend, Masseur . . . you've been an asset to Esato from DAY 1 of your visit here till now. I will be praying for you, mate. Thanks for everything that you've done to me here in Esato. You will never be forgotten . . . until we meet - again, old friend.

Was shocked when know about this on twitter...Masseur, thank you for being awesome...Esato was what brought me into mobile tech, and I will forever remember the early days of SE, and the way you kept Esato being the great community that it still is (although I come here much less)

Like my good friends below, i was made aware of this only now, well, what can be said?, for times past, you earned the respect of many, for doing a difficult job with great skill, humor and grace, however short the future might be, you have earned a legacy of fondness and great memories that will reside with us all for many years to come, much love from me my friend .

Just found out and am completely shocked. Always a true tent, and will always be remembered.

First login for must be a good 4 years! Brought back here by seeing messages on Twitter and a Facebook message from Rahul.

Truly shocked and saddened to hear of your illness Masseur, it has brought a tear to my eye. I remember all the 'Playtime!' giveaways (are they still done?) and still have some of the SE goodies I was lucky enough to win! This was the first internet forum I joined and spend long hours here, receiving and (hopefully!) giving out good advice and having a lot of fun on the way. I suspect I had a couple of friendly warnings off Masseur too at times when I strayed outside of the forum rules too And a few good times and the odd trade with him too!

My wife works in palliative care, drop us a DM if you have any questions about anything Mass, I can pass them onto her, she's very knowledgeable.

Take care and enjoy that sun

Posted by *Jojo*
@Sammy - yeah still remember that - PLAYTIME thing. Is Tranquil still around? I hope he reads this thread. OLD members reunited in this - thread . . . coz you are GREAT, Masseur !

So glad to see all you old folks post here.. But I wish we had something happier to talk about.

Posted by *Jojo*
@Whizkidd - I agree dude ! I still have that old pic of - Masseur (the one you posted here) behind the P910 ? ahahahaha . . the good old days

Hello my friend. This is obviously never the sort of thing one hopes to have to write, but here we are and write it I must. I always enjoyed my time here, especially when speaking to yourself. You are a kind, decent man and we are all much better off for having had you in our lives, whether we were close friends or simply acquaintances met through a mobile phone forum.

I am not going to bid you farewell because this is not the end for you, merely the end of the beginning. Now you begin the greatest journey of all, one that we must all undertake. In that undertaking lies fear and apprehension, sadness and despair. Yet through all that there shines the imperishable beacon of light of those you hold dearest and who will, I am certain, do everything they can to make your last days your best days. With all my heart I wish you as much happiness and joy as possible now, enjoy every moment you have and cherish those closest to you.

I will offer you a quote that I have always found comforting and inspiring and hope that you too take comfort and inspiration from it:

End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it ... White shores, and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise.

I will miss you mate.

@Masseur - I just hope that you will still find TIME to visit, Esato once in a while when you are already in - Australia. You've been with this site for 9 years now . . . and I know that it's NOT that EASY letting go just like that (even if we are to consider what you are experiencing/going through right now) . . . just like what everybody was saying back then . . ESATO is Laffen's - BABY (this place was born long ago when Laffen had his first-born), and I know you consider this site like your - BABY too.

Posted by nirave
Wishing you all the best in this life and the next Masseur, you've been a great help in the past and Esato will not be the same without you.

I hope that your time remaining is memorable and you are at peace until the moment comes.

All the best, you will be remembered.

Dear masseur
I haven't been around on esato for a long time.
Some here on the forums may remember me from my many reviews, some for my many designs back when I was modding P900's but I was just a young guy with a hobby. You were one of the first people that encouraged me.

I'm actually from Qatar but I studied uni in England.
I made some very good friends here on the forum and you were one of the guys I looked up to.
This might sound odd, but you were like a big brother to me here on the forums.

I am very sad to hear that you have terminal cancer, my grandmother passed away of a rare form and even came to the uk for the best treatment.

She always told me that to shed a tear for someone who's done great things in the world would be a disrespect to their legacy. This never stopped me from shedding a few but I understood that its all about remembering people positively and with a smile.

I remember one joke until this very day you made when someone wrote something nonsensical / gibberish to which you replied something like "I'm sorry but I don't speak Shakespeare"
I still smile about that joke btw!

Take it easy friend. You've always got a mate in Qatar.

Posted by Mizzle
Masseur, I can't tell you how sad it makes me to hear about this. We've spoken together a few times before, and although I didn't know you personally, you've always been an inspiration to me. You've been incredibly dedicated on Esato, and I've always respected you for that. I haven't posted here in several months and really haven't been active, but I couldn't help but to say my goodbyes. Thank you for all your hard work, it's much appreciated. Hope you can spend your last time with your loved ones.

Best regards,
Michell
