LONDON, UK – September 15, 2010 – HTC Corporation, a global designer of smartphones, today unveiled a new HTC Sense experience with the new HTC Desire HDTM and HTC Desire ZTM Android-based smartphones. The new HTC Sense experience continues HTC’s strong focus on the customer, placing people at the center by simply making its phones work in a more personal and natural way. HTC Sense introduces a number of key innovations including a series of connected services called HTCSense.com that enhance people’s mobile experience on HTC phones.

“We’re excited to be taking the HTC Sense experience beyond the phone to a whole new level with a series of connected HTC services we call HTCSense.com,” said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corporation. “Our customers will value the holistic approach we’re taking to enhance their mobile experience. This customer-first philosophy has resonated with people buying HTC phones and this drives us to continue introducing new innovative smartphones like the HTC Desire HD and HTC Desire Z.”

"As a key Android partner and smartphone brand, HTC continues to bring new innovation to the platform," said Andy Rubin, VP engineering at Google. "Android is about choice and the new HTC smartphones continue to provide customers with powerful choices and flexibility."

HTC Sense

The new HTC Sense experience offers a variety of enhancements that improve how people capture, create, share and access multimedia content. With a newly created camera experience, people can record HD videos or capture and edit images with a variety of fun camera effects. With HTC Locations, a new differentiated online mapping experience, people have instant, on-demand mapping without download delays or incurring mobile roaming charges.

HTC Sense also includes a new integrated online e-reading experience utilizing a new e-book store powered by Koboä and a new, mobile-optimized e-reader that includes the ability to highlight, annotate and quickly search for definitions or translate unfamiliar terms.

HTCSense.com

With the new HTCSense.com service, people can simply manage their mobile phone experience from their HTC phone or personal computer. For example, people can easily locate a missing phone by triggering the handset to ring loudly, even if it is set to silent, or to flag its location on a map. If the phone’s been lost or stolen, users can remotely lock the phone, forward calls and texts to another phone, send a message to the phone to arrange its return or even remotely wipe all personal data from it. HTCSense.com makes it easy to setup a new HTC phone or access archived mobile content such as contacts, text messages and call history from a PC browser. People can also customize their phones with exclusive HTC content like wallpapers, HTC scenes, sounds or plug-ins.

HTC Desire HD

HTC Desire HD showcases outstanding multimedia content with its bright 4.3” LCD display and Dolby Mobile and SRS virtual sound and is the first to be powered by the new 1GHz Qualcomm 8255 Snapdragon processor. The HTC Desire HD enables 720p HD video recording and includes an 8-megapixel camera with dual-flash. Building on the unibody heritage of the HTC Legend, the HTC Desire HD is sculpted from a block of solid aluminum and exudes the air of quality and strength that HTC has come to be known for. It also includes the new HTC Fast Boot that enables people to quickly make a call or check emails by shortening the time taken to complete the power-up sequence.

HTC Desire Z

For people constantly on the go, HTC Desire Z makes it quick and easy to stay connected with friends on Facebook and Twitter or with colleagues and customers at work. HTC Desire Z features a unique ‘pop hinge’ that opens to reveal a QWERTY keyboard for fast, convenient typing. HTC Desire Z’s keyboard also includes a variety of keyboard shortcuts and two customizable keys for providing instant access to common functions without the need to open menus. HTC Desire Z also includes 720p HD video recording and a 5-megapixel camera with automatic flash. It is the first phone to utilize the new 800MHz Qualcomm 7230 processor for improved performance and battery life and also includes HTC Fast Boot.

Availability

The new HTC Desire HD and HTC Desire Z will be broadly available through mobile operators and retailers across major European and Asian markets from October 2010 with the HTC Desire Z shipping in North America later this year.

The HTC HD looks stunning! Hope the phone feels as good as it looks with the solid alluminium case

HTC launches the Desire HD: an EVO for the rest of world

I like the look of this....

The Desire Z is the same as the T-Mobile's G2. Wondering why they didn't call it Dream Z?

I am liking these too like the one with the keyboard. That ram is that the highest ram in a phone so far 768 or something. Will not be long before we see 1 gig of ram in phones.

I love HTC's tagline Quietly Brilliant and they so are Nokia made such a huge song and dance about their phones yet had nothing as exciting as these phones

HTC is on a roll lately. If you read this press release, you'll see that they've even been hiring former SE employees too:

"Ron Louks, Chief Strategy Officer
As HTC’s newly created chief strategy officer, Ron Louks will be responsible for driving new strategic initiatives, technology incubation and will work closely with HTC’s engineering and operation departments. Prior to joining HTC, Louks was the chief technology officer at Sony Ericsson.

Kouji Kodera, Chief Product Officer
As HTC’s newly created chief product officer, Kouji Kodera will be responsible for HTC’s global product portfolio planning and management. As a seasoned veteran of the mobile industry, Kodera has a strong track record of building device portfolio strategies. Prior to joining HTC, he worked for Sony Ericsson as its head of products."

HTC move closer to me moving away from iPhone. I was so, so tempted with the original desire and the available apps in the Android store so I will not be able to help myself when the desire hd becomes available.

Mind you, I'm not sure yet whether my new iPad will allow me to choose another phone platform now or help me decide to stay with same.... we'll see

Desire z......just what I was looking for...and there out next month...no 6 month wait

Posted by etaab
Great specs, i prefer how the original Desire looked though.

That camera module on the rear is ugly imo. Im not too keen on that sim card / memory card slot cover either. But then its a workhorse rather than beauty queen.

Posted by QVGA
The HD looks a little too big for my taste. The desire Z is perfect IMO. And I really hope they bring some new eye candy to their sense UI. Its been the same for over a year now.

Desire Z looks like the shizzle for izzle... HTC are on fire right now and seem to be going in a fantastic direction, good specs and a great user experience that seems to be improving well...

See what they have about when I'm due to change my Desire, but looking forward to seeing how they have done with the Z...

Beats everything out there

I like how they have pinched the back of my Wildfire on that new HD Desire

nice phones btw Android is the way to go folks too

Posted by Toney_Ericsson
I like the fact the HTC Desire HD stores all the maps for navigation and rotates the maps to the way your facing giving proper directions.

Posted by Lightspeed_x
I just watched the video... That mobile will be a success...

If only We could buy it from any carrier over here, that would be my next phone for sure...

Its a shame here we have mostly SE and some Motorolas and Nokias (Think N95...)...

I think carriers should start looking at other brands, like HTC and Samsung, and forget about SE for a while (until they sort out their logistics problem)

The Desire HD looks awesome Hope the camera is improved from the Desire which was nothing more than average.

Posted by Toney_Ericsson
Not long till it's out now

The HTC Desire HD is starting to be sold in the UK only it's not the Black as seen in the photo on the first page its the brown colour.

Apparently Black version is coming later to Carphone Warehouse, but when who knows.

I have my one from Tmobile. Its amazing and way better than my X10.

I was a bit concerned about the weight but you soon get used to it and it feels solid to hold. The screen and speed are brilliant.

Posted by Bonovox
I am thinking of one of these soon looks impressive better than the old Desire. But with such a huge screen won't them pixels show up being stretched to such a size?

What colour is yours Black or dark Brown? I was trying to find this out from T-Mobile but they didn't have any in stock in the store here.

I've had a play on a dark brown one and yes certainly is better than my X10 aswell, the screens very good and not stretched or anything. The build quality is very good, it feels quality in your hand. I dont think its heavy either I think it feels well made and solid. Defo will need a screen protector as the screen is glass and not scratch resistant. I know this twin pack of screen protectors fits the screen perfect where other ones dont fit as perfect

http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/ht[....]r-sp-p430-twin-pack-p26046.htm

Best price that I have seen is from Phones 4U at £449.99 sim free and Three even has it on Pay & Go at the same price but I think that is locked. Other places have it at much higher price at £460-70 and Carphone Warehouse is just as bad as Expansys at nearly £500 for sim free so best to get it from Phones 4U as its £50 less

All online places are selling the dark brown version as sim free but as yet haven't seen a black one as was advertised like at the top of this post in black. I'm interested to know what colour yours is as what version t-mobile are selling black or dark brown?

Its dark brown but you could say it was black tbh. I don't have a screen protector but I understood it was scratch resistant?!? I would be surprised a device like this would not be, hopes!

The only downside is the online HTC Sence site which doesn't seem to work properly for me, I am hoping its still beta as it could be really good.

The Tmobile one I was sent has no Tmobile branding and I have just updated it now. Again its just an amazing bit of equipment.

I can't find out 100% sure if the screen is scratch resistant as there is plenty of yes it is and no it isn'ts on the net and also someone on xda has managed to smash the screen already. I suppose everything is scratch resistant to a certain point but when I had a play on a Desire HD a couple days ago I think I would put a screen protector on to be safe. I thought my X10 was scratch resistant but there is some hair line scratches even with it always being in a Noreve case that completely covers it.

Thanks for confirming the colour what t-mobile are selling. I know what you mean by its almost black, in some light it looks charcoal and in full sun light it looks a dark brown like in this video it looks charcoal with just the camera rim looking brown

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-yKyZmEPjw

I'll probably end up going for the same colour as you as thats all thats available sim free and yeah it looks classy.

Have you played about with the maps yet? Something I'm trying to find out is are the maps completely free or is there some kind of catch where you have to pay for any premium services?

The screen definitely feels different to the X10 and I am sure it must be scratch resistant. I am not surprised someone has already broken the screen as I fear for dropping the phone from any height aluminium body aside it looks to have a rubber seal which should offer some protection.

Also the battery cover does not fit snug up to the body of the phone leaving a hairline gap, it’s only a minor gripe and doesn’t affect the phone or its look.

You have an app called car panel but I am not sure who supplies the map for this, if you don’t use Goggle then there is a “premium service” but I really don’t see the point. The Google Maps and Navigation are also included and I would 100% recommend the latter as I find it very good and it hardly uses any data. Combine it with this:
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5467583.htm
and you don’t need a separate sat nav system. I would also recommend getting a car charger!

I am in the process of running in the battery and I can at the moment get nearly 2 days from a single charge and that’s using most of the functions.

Yeah, the maps are free and there's absolutely no waiting whilst maps load as they are stored on the phone like you said.
It explains it in the video preview : HTC Desire HD

That start up time is very very impressive, look at this phone boot test

Had a play with a Desire HD today in a 3UK store. Gorgeous device but they seem to be out of stock everywhere at the moment I can get one now but I cannot find stock

Posted by Miss UK
Batt life must be standard for all hTCs as I get the same
Outta my Wildfire.

Lol btw getting hold of these hasnt changed then?

Desire was the same and it took me a while to even
Get myphone.

Seems networks only want to give them away with cpntracts
To not sell them directly as handset onlys lol

Posted by Toney_Ericsson
In store at Phones 4U they will, they even have them at sim free price on display. Everywhere else either doesnt have them or like Carphone Warehouse are £50 more expensive.

I think it just goes into some sort of sleep or hibernation mode cos once battery is removed boot up is not as fast

or so was the Sim free price when I went to buy it they told me alot of crap!

oh madam it was the last one instore and someone had rang up for it yeah right!

you have to watch them be warned

Just got a HTC Desire HD this morning on T Mobile contract. Paid £69 for the handset from Carphone with £35 per month 1200 free mins unlimited texts and unlimited web. Very happy man will report back later on

Posted by hihihans

Posted by Bonovox
Nice deal too and Carphone do an option at nine months you can return the handset a
they pay off the contract and you get a new deal. Nice. Its a gorgeous device I very nearly did not bother. Who said I would be sick of it by nine months

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Congrats Bono!! Lol, knowing you, you'll be bored with it by next week lol, wish i could get a DesireHD or Droid X, both my fav Androids at the moment, but loving my X10 so far, and will be getting a N8 in the next week,so i wont be getting any new phones after the N8 until 2012,lol.

Posted by Bonovox
Oh my god this phone is the business its amazing. Mate I am in a contract I thought about it carefully and I am dead happy. Honestly its a stunning device. Better than iPhone, I cannot afford to be bored with it and also mate there is so much to do on this phone you cannot get bored. EDIT: Beautiful device I knocked HTC like I did the iphone but this is wayyyyyyyyyyyyy better than the iphone imo. It feels so nice but I got so much playing around with it so much to explore on it. Don't think I ever seen so much on a mobile device so many features & things I keep finding

Camera is fast very fast. Screen is gorgeous and is readable in sunlight. I love the texting its so easy on the huge screen have fallen in love with this device.

Hey Bonovox....i got one of these last week and you are right its a cracking device. Sold my iphone 4 and im not really missing it. Compared to the SAMSUNG Galaxy S its a different ball game.........however do you not find the external speaker a complete waste of time. The original Desire had a poor external speaker but the HD is terrible. What do you think ?

Regards

Craig

Posted by Bonovox
Yeah speaker not great not bothered best phone I ever laid my hands on . Using Opera on the massive screen is so nice the device is just something else truly great.

They are selling them on pay as you go at Carphone from next week for£399 isn't on their systems yet for pay as you although it is sim free.

you're now completely back on Android Bono, glad you're enjoying it, its quite a machine.

Are you getting the N8 just for the camera?? I thought you were not liking Symbian no more??

I am indeed & am loving it. Will report on more later

Camera does have one issue. Pics look clear outside but all photos come out blurry on the left side of the picture. EDIT: I just realised I got internet twice on my home screen in the pics
