Since esato does not have one, here we go
Also take a read of my HTC desire review

Posted by Bonovox
Have quite a few people got them on here now? How is the camera?

Posted by weirdwilli
I've got one, love it although I'm getting mighty tempted by the iPhone 4!

Posted by lukechris
Any good apps?

Posted by mutleyboy
I have one and its probably the leading android device at the moment.

Having said that, I am selling mine as have decided to take the plunge on iphone4 on launch day as I have a feeling they will have sorted out the signal issues from the 3gs which was the only thing which made me get rid of it, and Im confident a jailbreak will be available really quickly (cant cope with a non jailbroken iphone)

Posted by masseur
I'm definitly hooked and for one brief fleeting moment earlier today considered skipping the iPhone 4... but nah...

Mind you if Android phones carry on like this the next iPhone iteration might see me stay away

Posted by Bonovox
Well even I have dipped my toes into my first Android phone now & it's super fast This thread has already gone off topic onto the iphone

pics, sadly, are at usual HTC standard so far for me (see below)

also, I just discovered that you can't get a screen capture without rooting the device (btw, rooting means something quite different in Australia ), and I'm not ready to do that yet as I'm not familiar enough with the device

Posted by Bonovox
Oh dear,my LG Android phone with 3 mega pixels is better than that but I guess these phones are not really concentrating on camera quality. It's all about what's under the bonnet the operating system & what it can do Maa I guess that's a view from your work?

yes, its the view over Canary Wharf from the 21st floor.

I've downloaded many free apps so far, including those I have on my iPhone, but my Android favourite which is not available on iphone is Google Sky Map

its incredible. just point it in any direction and it shows the astronomical features you are looking at. You can also select, say Mars, and it will guide you to its current location in the sky.

its just a shame I haven't had much real use of it yet due to the crummy UK cloudy weather!

Posted by Bonovox
Oh ok I will check that one out. Never thought i would say this but I am enjoying Apps now

here I am, another happy user of a brand new orange branded HTC Desire!
I prefer it to my iPhone for everyday use ' cause I got it cheaper -- 100e with a contract and data plan of 30e including calls and sms--- and it has radio and theoretically, flash video.
I will keep my beloved white iPhone 3GS 32gb - paid 620 e including unlocking--because I do love it, but maybe at home, as multimedia with it's speakers...or sell it and get a new iPhone 4 if it is god enough.
No radio? No flash? I do not care about cameras anymore, got a new one, and I do not know if I should sell it right ahead or wait for another year and see a real evolution in apple.

I like it but i like the looks of the X10 more.

Posted by Bonovox
Mass I tried that Google Sky Map last night it was very good indeed. It even worked in my bedroom

Desire owner here too... Had it since release and really like it, its what the Hero should have been!

Posted by Lollylost100
I have an HTC Desire too. I have rooted it and it's great!

Posted by lukechris
What're the advantages (and risks) because I'm kinda new to Android (well I had a hero for a week and sold it )

Posted by masseur
what app are you guys using for voice dialling via bluetooth?

Posted by lukechris
I use http://choicedialer.com/.
Its great and also is great for other things, such as turning off wifi etc.

Posted by procterdc
I have one and love it!!!, I've converted loads of films for it, my only slight niggle is the fact the touch screen is too sensitive.

Posted by alexslane
well i got to admitt it the desire is a awesome phone , i am a independent phone retailer and would say that i sell more of these than anything else , the phone is very easy to understand and lighting fast. Would really say that htc got this one right straight out of the box.
The only gripe that i would say is that from what i can gather that the battery life is not great.
As for the touch screen would say that it puts my N97 Mini to shame.
Very bright and clear , its miles better than the x10 and i think that sonys customisation has ruined the x10 somewhat.
Really love the Gps on there as well did not take long to get a lock at all, got me to where i needed to be it good time and did not loose lock at any point.
I think that customisation is the key role on this phone aswell each and every customer that i have sold one to , there phone is diffrent to the next person diffrent apps and diffrent widgets in places.
Boucing back to the gps would reconmend Copilot for use of turn by turn voice guidance.

Yes for once it really is a smart phone . And about time that a company got what they originally wanted as a smart phone and the harware did not let it down.
Yes i would love to have a Desire !

Well thats my pennies worth.

I still have mine after a week and a half, which is interesting as I only bought it to play with for the weekend to get a feel for Android. I have a colleague next to me with a hero who is drooling and already told me he'll have it as soon as I sell.

Just can't seem to let it go!

Maybe i'll feel different after Thursday...

Posted by lukechris
Probably lol, but take both out with you, the iPhone 4 and the Desire. Try and weigh up which is really better, and which your mind is telling you is better, because for practicality, (so far), the Desire has got to be winning, but we will have to wait and see

Guys, my wife is thinking about getting one of these. The only thing that's putting her off is the fact that it doesn't sync with a Mac.

Can anyone suggest any work-arounds to sync with a Mac please?

Posted by lukechris
What exactly does she need to sync?

Posted by scouser_75
She needs to sync iCal, Contacts, and with iTunes.

So pretty much as you would with an iPhone.

Posted by lukechris
Google Sync does a good job of those OTA too

"OTA"??? What's that? Or am I being thick?

Can Google Sync work on Apple iCal, Contacts and iTunes too?

If so, that'd be perfect.

Posted by masseur
OTA = over the air

i.e. wirelessly

Posted by scouser_75
Oh. So like Push?

Things just seem to get better.

If this phone can handle Mobileme I may just quit stressing about the fact that I won't be able to get an iPhone4 for a month (didn't pre-order ) and just get the Desire instead.

I'm not a big Apple fan no more anyway.

Posted by lukechris
Bump, any new apps?

Posted by mriley
I've just found a great website for Desire users, it's got loads of tips and tricks ranging from speeding up the web browser, to improving battery life.

Be great if Google had their own Mobile Web browser like Chrome Mobile

Have you all successfully updated your Desire to Froyo via OTA?
Is it true that HTC pulled it off for the meantime?

Posted by lukechris
Didn't have a problem, and didn't know they did that to be honest, I got it as soon as it was available though ...

Posted by volvoman
Updated both mine and no problems so far.

Posted by gedas5
guys i never thought that this would ever be possible to do with the phone but it turned out to be great! HTC Desire is a wonderful phone and it proved to be such a wonderful piece of device in numerous occasions...
now i wouldn't even know how to live without it

Posted by lukechris
Exactly the same, if you are without it a day you wonder what to do, emails, ebay, fun, games, music.

Lol

Posted by rikken
Yeah. the Desire is truly a great device. May be the best phone out there I really appreciate that HTC are so quick when it comes to updating to the newest android fw

Posted by Caspa
Have to agree, superb device... First time I have had a phone and not been thinking about what I wanna get next!

Now running my custom build of the MCR R8 ROM with my my own little mod zip installed too... Sweet...

Posted by QVGA
Desire owner here too

Posted by tranced
Nice to see you around

Posted by titus1
The best customized rom i've ever used for my Desire is AdamG's OpenDesire. Video is way too smooth, UI's fast. It even had an OTA update. I'm super lovin' my Desire.

Posted by imazz
I found a nice app for call/text/internet usage stats yesterday. It's difficult to find on the android market because of its name (stats) but a google search found it here:-

Posted by mriley
I saw a real Desire for the first time today

Posted by Miss UK
Oh yeah matt so what you reck to it?

Posted by mriley
It looked good, but I'm happy with what I've got atm, it's too much to spend on something that will be outdated soon, the new Desires are arriving
