i cant seem to use the internet on my c905 when i connect wirelessly to my modem at home any ideas people???

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Is it a Vodafone C905?

Posted by guestyvw
no its on orange

Posted by carkitter
As long as you've entered the network password and connected successfully, it should browse ok.

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Well Vodafone unintentionally (I hope) blocked WiFi on the C905 from working when they put their own firmware on it. I seem to remember somebody having problems with the Orange C905 too. I'll see if I can find it.

Posted by guestyvw
it says the page you are trying to access is only available via your orange phone when connected via the orange gprs network. if you are a blackberry user trying to access via the blackberry internet service browser please change your default browser to orange world through which this portal is available

Posted by dibberly
i think its a common problem as mine is not locked or got any operators firmware on it and does not work.

Reading around other people have had probs

Posted by Bialynia
The WiFi works great if you're close to the signal source, the c905 does not have a great WiFi antenna, so if you're behind a couple of doors it may have trouble picking it up.

I had the same thing on mine. you just can't open an orange page.
options
go to
enter address
www._________

and you're away

flashing mine off orange tonight so won't be a problem after

Posted by guestyvw
what do you mean flashing ?

Posted by lardyb
sorry debrand I meant

Really! I'm stunned that Vodafone would dare to take their arrogance that far. The iPhone has no such issue, it leaves 3G as soon as it finds a wifi signal it knows. really need to renegotiate that contract - a C905 without wifi is pointless IMO and would rule it out if I were considering purchasing it.

It seems net neutrality issues are raising the ugly heads more and more as the financial squeeze goes on...

its many people who have problem with the wifi on last fw...reflash and try again....it regards both unbranded and branded phones.

Well it depends who is more arrogant haha.... Apple seem to be the undisputed company that insist on what they want. Remember the first iTUNE capable phone...Motorola need to bow down.

Remember all other funny thing that Apple put into their iPHONE like sim lock or unremovalable battery etc...yet it got the brand power and appeal which even Vodafone need to bow down.

I am not surprise SE don't have the negotiation power because what it can offer is very similar to others like nokia/ samsung in the eyes of Vodafone.

Hi All - i'm new to Esato.

I've just got the Sony Ericsson C905 today, but seem to be having some issues with the WiFi - whenever I go to access the internet, it doesn't connect using WiFi and uses Orange GPRS settings.

I've had a look through this topic but am not completly sure if it's something i'm missing - or something i have to switch off....

Hope someone can help me...

Plank, what are you on? Only people with branded phones have had issues.

Which means that every single C905 deserves a debranding.

I'm trying to connect my phone to my computer via wi-fi and i'm doing so with creating a ad-hoc network and my C905 detects my network but when i try to log in with my password i only got message "couldnīt connect tin the network". What iīm i missing?

I have just got a c905 and had the same prob but i overcame it. Here's what i did.
GO TO WI-FI AND TURN IT OFF
SELECT THE CONNECTION & DELETE IT
TURN ON WI-FI AND ALLOW TO SEARCH FOR NETWORKS
SCROLL TO YOUR OWN HOME COONECTION AND SELECT IT
ENTER THE WEP KEY IF REQUIRED
SAVE EVERYTHING AND GO BACK TO MAIN SCREEN
TRY TO CONNECT TO INTERNET

If you're on orange, it'll say that you cant access orange home page using WI-FI so just go to options and enter the URL of the site you want to visit. I'm still trying to figure out how to change the homepage fromOrangeworld to something else.

Hope this info helps someone.

I had the same problem, apparently vodafone live and orange software on the phone will not connect to WIFI, but do not panic there is a simple way around this.

Instead of using the connection keys, simply press up on the main navigation key (big key on the front of phone), this gives you a list of options:

The first is homepage... ignore this!

Go to option 'enter web address', type in any address ie google.com, yahoo.co.uk..... hey presto you are online.

Find your favourite sites and press options, followed by bookmark. Now when you first press up on the navigation key you can press bookmarks, and go directly to the sites your favourite bookmarked sites.

I hope this helps.

i had the same problem i managed to overcome this by downloading the google mobile software and opera mini 4.2 web browser and installing it in my applications on the c905

http://www.google.com/mobile/sony/

http://www.opera.com/mini/

download opera mini and google via your pc make sure your c905 is connected to the PC via the USB cable that came with your phone select media transfer move the downloaded files over to the dirctory stated below

My Computer\C905\Phone Memory\other

C905 hanset
goto organiser\media album\other
now you should see opera mini and google there click on them to install into my applcations

My applications
oganiser\my applications

Opera
dont type anything into the addressbar instead click down to the google seach bar press the center button on the c905 then select google and type what you please into the search (allow appplication to send to the internet)

that should be you connected to the internet via wifi

do the same with the google software

there is nothing wrong with the wifi on the C905

Orange and other phone companys has customized firmware and there web browser's is set only to connect through GPRS so that their customers has to pay for a service that is free via wireless hotspots and at home through your wireless router

hope this help's

I also have the almost the same problem with my new(second hand, but new in box, unbranded) C905.

But my seems to have Telenor settings(G2/G3) even though it should have been unbranded.
I now have a TeliaSonera simcard and the phone works well for calls, sms, mms etc.

If i connect using the WiFi:
I get the message:
"You don't have permission to access / on this server.
apache server at
mobil.telenor.se Port 80
If I then try to go to another page it works just fine on most pages, but nor Gmail that gives me a popup error: Communication Error. Try again or contact your isP for support.

If I connect using the G2/G3:
Everything works fine except that I can't get rid of the Telenor startpage, but every other page works just fine.

Hi guys.

I've just debranded my C905, and it has connected to my home network, (I can see the green symbol top left) and I have turned on Network Sharing, however I still can't see the phone's drives mapped on my laptop.

I have deleted the connection and started again and I have rebooted my laptop.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks.

EDIT: I can access the phones music on my media streamer but still don't know how to access my phones photos on my laptop via WiFi.

Should this be possible?

I don't think the Wi-Fi works like that dude.

Posted by goldenface
Ah, thanks.

Make sure network sharing is on, then type \\C905 (or whatever your phones bluetooth name is) If it comes up with two icons "phone memory" and "memory card" then you should be all set. If not, try restarting both your phone and the pc (If you make network sharing changes, I find you must restart the phone)

Edit: only type two backslashes

Does anyone know if 3 network have any problems with the wifi connection?

Posted by pedro_c
I am having similar problems connecting over wifi on the 3 network. The phone finds and connects to the router OK, the icon turns green. Then when try to connect to the internet I get a message saying somethig like "communication failure, contact your operator".

I have tried connecting by clicking enter address and also tried using Opera Mini with the same message. I am waiting a call back from 3 technical support but I have a feeling they have blocked access to force people to use their data network.

Does anyone have any similar problems on the 3 network? I don't mind paying the data charges in UK but I am moving to India for 6 months and would like to use the wifi feature there.

Posted by barareklam
I am on 3 in sweden and everything works just fine. both standard browser and opera. wireless and thru 3 (lucky me)

Posted by pedro_c
That's great... maybe I will move to Sweden then! Anyone else in the UK with similar problems? before I emmigrate

My c905 doesnt even find any wireless internet even though I'm standing right next to it. It's an open network too so I dont see why my phone doesnt even see it. My ipod does though. I got the latest firmware on my phone

Posted by Flybywyre
I am also having the same problem as Pedro.
However the other day to my surprise I did manage to get on line, twice in fact. Hasn't happened since and the problem is very annoying as Wifi access was one of the reasons I chose this phone.
I will be watching this thread in the hope of a fix.
Regards
FBW
