Hi all,

Got my W960i in January 2008, yesterday the touch screen decided to stop working.

I tried SE Update and that did not fix the problem, now I can't even get passed the language selection on start up. The phone is now useless!

I am an O2 contract customer and can't believe the short life of this handset... It's only 10 months old and I still have 8 months left on contract.

Any suggestions to try and resurrect from the dead?
Should I be contacting O2 or SE for a new one?

Any help appreciated.

No big deal. My W960 had the same problem too.
I believe SE won't replace phones after the initial 30 day period. If it's still under warranty, get it repaired at an authorized SE service centre.

Edit: Did you try removing the battery and putting it back in?

Yer I tried removing the battery - the sim - turning on/off - reinstalling firmware... no joy!!

I'm gonna call O2 and see what they say...

Same thing happend to me, I just took it back to the store and they fixed it. They gave me a brand new screen and all is well.

I got this problem before and i manage to solve it somehow. I have read somewhere that there is a connection that is a bit lose inside. Can be fixed in fact when openned by just pressing that specific area. Its very tempting to pen the phone but i just dont want to do it. Instead:

This sounds crazy but it did solve the problem. I snap the phone HARD ENOUGH on a wooden furniture. I remove the battery cover, hold tight the upper portion, snap the battery area (without the batter cover and bat of course). Make sure you cover the furniture with anything like cloth to avoid scratching the phone.

I got the idea from a hammer. When the head gets lose, you normally snap the handle in upward position so the head gets stucked tightly again on its handle. Same principle i think applies.

Dont forget to recalibrate the screen after. Anyway, you'll lose all data. But better than losing the phone.

DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK

Thanks for your ideas...

I took the phone to an o2 store and they have sent it off for repair. They gave me a Nokia to keep me going in the mean time.

It will be a touch if I get a new screen out of it - no pun intended - mine was scratched and old looking...

I'm happy again...

hmm i have this exact problem. And my problem is it's under manufactuar warrenty but my receipt i have doesn't have my IMEI number on it, so they wont repair it for free, costs almost $200

the company i got the phone from is out of business so i'm screwed there.

Any ideas of what to replace? I don't mind taking the phone apart if i have to. I've reset the phone and now i'm stuck at the language screen, as i can't confirm yes/no to english... ugh

I took my phone to the local SE service centre, and they are going to charge me around $40 (which i think is quite alot), but they will fix the touchscreen as it does not work, as well as fix some physical issues with the screen.

Empyrials: As with the IMEI number, remove the battery, and u should see the number there.

went to check on my phone, they told me that the "touchscreen pad" has gone bad, and needs to be replaced, which will cost $66!!

not good!!

yes i have the IMEI number, just it wasn't on the reciept, they need to PROVE that it's that exact phone... gay...

well 60 for a touch screen, not too bad, unless you also paid 40 for the fee of checking it out

either way it shouldn't be going out so soon

I dont know if it's a bit late but I want to return the favor to everyone who has had this problem.
This is how I fixed my touchscreen. You can do it yourself. If you dont have the heart to, have someone else with more experience do it for you.

My w960i touchscreen also stopped working about 15 seconds after my SE c905 went demented (Never will I buy SE again.) I've discovered that I can still pretty much use it for everything though by using 'the magic wheel of misfortune' on the left hand side to scroll through stuff and click it to select.
Hope this helps the trauma that is owning any SE phone past the w800i.What a champ that one was.

Avoid the C905 like a condom filled with wasps. The firmware = bugware. All versions are rubbish and SE can't be bothered to sort it.Great camera with a broken phone/mp3 player/everything else that can be broken attatched to it.

Buy a camera and an old Nokia.
