Has anyone tried a 16gb m2 card in a w760? Does it work?

Posted by tranced
Yes, mate. It will work.

Posted by juniji
NO PROBLEM.
W760 is tested by SanDisk as part of the normal qualification.

Posted by skinnycl
Great. Thanks, guys!

Does it work in a W910?

Unlike microSD, there's only one type of M2 card - and any phone that takes it (at least from SE - are there others?) will happily support 1, 2, 4, 8, 16 or 32GB. Not sure if they can go beyond that, or when they're actually going to release 32GB cards.

The only potential problem is how slow it might be when you use a 16GB M2 card. If you're going to put thousands of images or audio files, it could really slow things down - but that's down to the OS. However, if you're using 16GB to store loads of films (and therefore less files in any one directory) then it's great.

I've got a 16GB card in my W595 and that seems to be fine.

Hey, I've got a 160GB M2 and it worked fine till it exploded my phone! I guess it couldn't handle it!!!

Posted by moogoo
are the 16GB m2 cards available for purchase yet? I've been looking for it here in the States. The websites that "carry" them look very suspicious.

Posted by strizlow800
There should be 16GB cards imho... The 8GB are on the market for a longer time so the 16GB should be available somewhere... And the phones WILL read ALL cards that are formatted with FAT32 filesystem... That includes cards up to 32GB atm.

SanDisk announced the release of both M2 16GB and microSDHC 16GB cards at the same time (30th September 2008).

I believe they should now be on sale, with the M2 being about 20-30% more expensive than the microSDHC version.

Of course, the fakes won't be far behind - so the usual common sense rules apply!

All new Sony Ericsson's have support up 32GB memory.

Db2010 phones like K750 may be slow with such cards but DB2020 and DB3150 phones won't make any problems with them.

My phone can't read 10mb 3gp file from the m2 card. Why?

Posted by Trev1982

Posted by Trev1982
nearly all new models will support upto 32gig so get ya facts right ukmobiles and yes the p1i supports it

Posted by strizlow800
Although this question is answered million times, people are asking the same again. ALL (nearly all) phones support up to 32gb cards. That's final

Posted by jmcomms
All of the handsets that use M2 cards will support 32GB. On the MS PRO Duo side, there may be some that don't support whatever size they eventually went up to (are they still made?).

Posted by groovepeppy
MS PRO DUO side can get along too with M2>>MS PRO DUO adapter which always came together with Sandisk M2's...

Yes a DB2010 phones (most use MS pro duo) know to mess up if you put non-genuine card in them... I have an old W800 (CID36) that supports 4GB MS Pro Duo (genuine) while restarts with even 256MB fake card. So trying the card before buying it would be the best idea for older phones...

Also fake M2 cards can cause loss of data, skipping tracks and not completely saved pictures... I had a problem with a K800 when the card was fake so the phone couldn't delete the previous pics taken from the cam completely. It resulted in having crap pictures after a while. The pics had half part of the pic taken and half part of the previous picture that has been "deleted" from the phone along time ago.

was about to buy a sandisk 4gb M2 for my K800 but the local SE shops here advised me to get only the 2gb. they claimed that my phone might hang, it won't recognize the card properly, blah blah blah...

although i know a lot of you here have attested to using m2's with bigger capacity(4gb & above), why's still sticking to its outdated recommendation? 'coz of what they said, now i'm unsure of which M2 to buy... 2gb or 4gb?

Actually, it should compatible with almost all SE phones since the K800 era.

the store doesn't know what they are talking about. I've been running 8GB in my K800 for ages. Never had anykind of hang or lag with it at all.

Posted by number1
I used a 4gig M2 in my k800, my k800 used to read it quicker than my c702 does, and it never hung or froze.

Trev, Hows the P1i + 16 gig combo going?

I Bet a lot of us would want to know that

@ max wedge & number1 - thanks for the reassurance. actually 2gb's already sufficient for my needs, but the price difference between them is quite negligible. so i'm definitely gonna go for the 4gb M2 this weekend.

Posted by max_wedge
I'm sure you'll find a use for the extra space

just got 16gb m2 card for my z710. it only recognizes it up to 3GB..

anybody know how i can get it to more? I'm gonna try to fill it with more than 3GB of data and see if it will allow me.

will update later.

Posted by groovepeppy
I bet moogoo got it worked and felt very happy, too happy and he forgot to tell us . . .

Posted by moogoo
Ha. No i didn't forget. Just haven't had time. When i connect to my pc it correctly detects that i have 16gb. The phone only detects 3gb and gets confused that it is full when downloading on the phone browser. I need to try more things to figure that out. I am able to transfer more than 3gb to my phone. And when i check memory status it gives a new number. Right now it says i have 3.5 gb free after transferring 4gb worth of data from my pc. So, it seems you can store using pc and access it all but the phone doesn't correctly detect and gets confused at times. Hopefulyy this isn't the case with the new phones

So what's the max memory card for k750i?

K750i supports Memory Stick Pro Duo so almost all the cards of this type will be compatible. I thing that the biggers are 16GB or even 32GB...

Ok thanks

A2 SE Phones can manage up to 32GB... (Mobile Review)

Posted by moogoo
just a heads up.. reading these forums i came to the conclusion that my Z710 would support the 16gb m2. After trying it, it does not. While I can actually access the data beyond its actual supported size (2GB as posted on the SE product page), there are lots of problems that arise.

So, before buying a large m2 card, be sure to check the product page as it tells you the max size the phone will support. Oh well, I guess I've got an excuse to upgrade >:)

I just purchased the 16gb for my c905, I will report on how well it works once it arrives.

Posted by strizlow800
Well it should work... I don't see a reason why 16gb M2 won't work with C905.

I knew it would work, it was more of a question of what the side effects would be, lag etc. I'm happy to report the C905 handles 16 gigs of music with no problem at all No lag whatsoever in the media player!
