The state capital will be testing ground for the third generation mobile technology. The mobile network of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) in the city will play a key role in the 3G validation process.

It would be an exhaustive exercise - a litmus test - and would decide the fate of 3G technology in the country. Chief general manager, BSNL, UP east circle Om Vir Singh says "Lucknowites must take pride in the fact that they would be the first to get the feel of this next generation technology."

General manager, mobile services, BSNL, UP east, Satish Kumar said that 3G was based on the standards of International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

The technology would enable operators to offer a wide range of advanced services while achieving larger network capacity through improved spectral efficiency.

The most significant feature of 3G mobile technology is that it supports greater amount of voice and data transfer especially in urban areas and at a lower cost. Hence, there will be an enormous improvement in the quality, resolution and speed of data transfer and voice quality.

AN ANNOUNCEMENT by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) to launch 3G mobile in Lucknow, exclusively, gave the people of this city enough reason to be happy. The chief general manager, of BSNL, UP east circle Om Vir Singh said that it’s going to be an exhaustive exercise and a litmus test to decide the fate of 3G mobiles in the country.

3G mobile communications is based on the International Tele-communication Union (ITU) family of standards under the International Mobile Telecommunications programmer, ‘IMT-2000’. 3G technologies enable network operators to offer users a wider range of more advanced services, while achieving greater network capacity through improved spectral efficiency. Services include wide-area wireless voice telephony and broadband wireless data, all in a mobile environment. Typically, these provide service at five to 10 MB per second.

A user might send video and picture messages or participate in a live videoconference. The most significant feature is that it supports greater amount of voice and data transfer, especially in urban areas and at low cost. It is a good sign of improvement in the quality, resolution and speed of data transfer and voice.

In Asia, Europe, Canada and the United States, telecommunication companies use WCDMA technology (Wideband Code-Division Multiple-Access) with the support of around 100 terminal designs to operate 3G mobile networks. 3G services were introduced and started in March 2003 in the UK and Italy.

The Lucknowites too are eager to use this much talked about technology. Lets hope that they would be able to use the revolutionary 3G mobile, soon.

"...........they would be the first to get the feel of this next generation technology."

But we all know what next generation technology is...its HSUPA.Its already available in some parts of the world and India won't see it anytimg before ??2015-17??

3G has been delayed beyond its promise 2-4 years now thanks to red tapism...
Tussle between Ministry of Finance,Ministry of Defence & Ministry of Telecommunication..on how to give the spectrum...thanks to Prime Minister's office this went smoothly after 2 years of talk
Then between GSM and CDMA players...(which is still ongoing)..on who gets the juiciest spectrum..why CDMA players get GSM license along with 3G spectrum...and how much spectrum to be give to each.

And now tussle between Dept of Telecommunication,Telecom regulatory auth of India..for paid spectrum or free spectrum.

And now the High/Supreme court is looking into...best possible spectrum allocation method followed around the world.

Things may be ready....but I think 3G in India will be sometime in 209-10.

This things make me.... @ my country.

Oh...Happy Republic day India !!
