I found a P1 advertisement in the local newspaper and I bought it from a guy, but now I see its a SE123, the prototype!
Can I still update it, like other P1 phones?
Or did is it all to no use now?
It works fine but its not a real P1, pity me.

Posted by Coxy
Perhaps not a "real" P1 you think, but if I were you I would be very happy! A prototype is something special to those who are enthusiastic about phones and I would hang onto it!
However you may have problems updating it, unless you can find someone with SE Tool. I once flashed a proto M600 and it did work, although the flash process was the strangest thing I have ever seen!
Good luck
Posted by polisen9
It even looks funny now when I compare it with the pictures on the web of a real P1, it has that same brushed metal-like look on the sides, even between the keyboard and the screen, not that black plastic part.
What did I buy? Some kind of monster?

Ps. funny also, it has no scratch anywhere, except for the one I did yesterday.
Hmmm, hmmm, mm?

If you don't want the proto give it to me!!

Posted by _LAU_
Get rid of it.
It probably has a Beta UIQ3 which is full of bugs...
Posted by polisen9
What means "flashed"?
I just want to have that update on the Sony Ericsson official site with a USB cable, so its same like others. But I feel scared to do it, if somethings goes wrong since its a proto.
I found out it was a proto, since it looked different when I compared mine with the pics on the internet, I am not a specialist. So I thought I was being fouled by the guy, but maybe its cool to have a prototype P1???
Im a newbee, forgive me for so many questions.

Explore the phone, it can have some extra feature like call recording or radio recording, which normal P1 don't have.

The beta version of P990i did definitely have recording from the radio:
(From BengalBoy's P990i review.)

It looks better with brushed metal between the keypad and the screen than that black plastic on P1, Ho ho ho!. I feel better now.
Thanks...

Could you post some pics? Would love to see that beauty:)

WTH I thought you should at least see the phone before buying.

My only camera is in the P1, but I will try to find another camera to post pic.
(And I did looked at it when I bought it, and it looked nice not knowing it was a proto with brushed metal).
Well, it works so its ok now, but I want to update it......
Maybe I sell it and by a Nokia E65 instead?

Sell it and buy another P1 instead, or even W960! Nokia E65 is not an advisable option if you loved P1's features as it simply won't match your P1/P700 performance and multimedia wise

This isn't meant as flaming, but there are several Nokias, which are a lot better then E65.
As for the OP, apparently he doesn't appreciate the fact, that he has a rare phone, which not many people have, so he'd better sell it to a collector.
Then he can go and buy what "everyone" has

It looks like this inside the phone.

Looks like this:

Nice man!
That's definitely a prototype! The production unit doesn't have the alu between the display and keyboard.
By the way, the firmware doesn't seem to be prototype firmware

Very nice! looks like its now running the World Generic 1 firmware so you should be able to update normally.
Not sure i like the brushed metal strip but it is just a matter of opinion and it is definitely a collectors item!
p.s. what are the qwerty keys like on your phone? i heard that some of the protos had flat keys rather than concave.
Posted by polisen9
OK, thank you for the information, I will try to update it, cause I found one bug.

I can not delete any recived SMS messenges without open them first, other than that it works fine.
I wonder how much I can get for it, from some phone collector person? A few hundred dollars? 2-300 perhaps? Its very few scratches...
Should I sell it as a P1 or say its a proto in my ad?

I think you can get more - but I'd love to buy it for 200 dollars!
You should probably say it's a prototype but fully functional and with finished firmware.

Another look:
Posted by polisen9
Somebody wants to change it with a Nokia E65 who lives near Skåne?
It has handsfree stereo headphones, charger, 512 memory card and a stick (pen) thing.
Posted by Mizzle
You shouldn't go for E65 when having had a P1. P1 does a lot more than E65.
I'm still willing to buy it for 200 USD

I'm so sorry guys, but unfortunately there is nothing special with the faceplat
. I just took a picture of a couple original P1 faceplate which arrived a couple days ago:
. I just took a picture of a couple original P1 faceplate which arrived a couple days ago:
The only difference is between this and the retail ones, that this proto does not have the "P1" sticker on the front. The early prototypes had SE123, or X123 written on those front stickers.

Posted by polisen9
Yes, I think P1 makes more things but I do not need all those things.
I like W-lan and camera plus good for SMS, thats it...
Posted by hanky
But it's still a nice one!! And don't you dare to trade it for an E65
 !
 !
Posted by Mizzle
@hanky
This is how it looks on the real P1

Posted by hanky
Yes, I know, but if you take a look at on my picture and this one, you can see, that the only noticable difference is between the keypad and the display. That little difference is the sticker, which can also be ordered. Just take a look at on the part list dude

Posted by polisen9
My P1 says SE123 on the front, so its a proto.
I just wish it was the real one P1, like you guys have.
Probably updatet firmware and put the new face plate on it by the previous owner.
I know we have a Sony Ericsson office here in the city of Lund in Sweden, near my place so maybe its his proto and sold it to me?
Ps. nice knowing its the new look of P1, with brushed metal face plate, Ho ho ho. I have the latest!?
Posted by hanky
I'm sorry again, but it's not the new look of P1 either. It's just missing the sticker. If you wish, I can send you one

Posted by polisen9

I want a real P1 or a E65
Its says prototype on the sticker under the battery, not for sale..

Posted by hanky
Well, you shouldn't worry about that prototype thing! That makes it more unique!! I'm using my W960 proto, and I just love it! I tell you, I probably wouldn't have even bought it if it was not a proto!
It seems like, that you have a retail software on your phone, so it's 99%, that it can be updated any time. It shall work just like a retail one.
Posted by polisen9
IMEI 004601(xxx)
Posted by Mizzle
Definitely prototype, but it should be possible to update the firmware.
Posted by polisen9
OK, thank you guys, you are very kind and helped me a lot.
It will work with SEUS update since you saw something from the funny numbers I furnished before from my phone.
But it has a bug, so I dont like it. When I get a SMS message I can not delete it directly, I have to open it first. Other than that its flawless and works very fine.
I will put it on an add on blocket.se for 300 dollars tomorrow.
I will call it "collectors item", thanks to you guys, otherwise it would be lower.
Ps. Why is Nokia E65 not so good?, It has Wi-Fi and Email also, camera, music player and radio.
?
Posted by polisen9
If nobody buys it, I will be happy having a cool phone that nobody else has, I thank you again for your information.
You guys are the greatest.
Ps. if the SMS bugg goes away after update, maybe I was wrong selling it?
I think so, lets wait and see...
Kindest regards.
Posted by polisen9
Last question, how come its retail software and world generic firmware?
Or maybe its easy if you know how?
Posted by polisen9
I will give you a report about the SMS bugg when its updated, but it takes some time.
I am a mac OS X guy and have to download windows first to run within my mac, then we will see?
Posted by hanky
What is exatly the bug?
Posted by polisen9
Its only one bug, I tried everything for hous and days since I bought it and nothing strange, but when I get a new SMS message, I must open it first before I can delete it with the back key (the one looks like a back arrow on the keyboard), everything else can be deleted with that key without open it first, email, MMS or other files except recived SMS messages.
It says "bad request"

Why not just mark the message and press "More" and then delete it?

I don't know if you'd get on with the Nokia E65 it's a womans phone,
after I updated it it clearley states that with the
"Pink and Purple Dot themes"
it's a nicephone I didn't like it to begin with cos of all the probs I had with it but my replacement is working better

how much did that Proto cost you?
you should keep it,
I wouldn't mind it but I wanna keep my E65

Posted by nelshh
You're probably sending about 2 SMS's a day right now without even knowing it, all SE prototypes send out status SMS's.

Posted by hanky
Not all of them

OOHhh,
Can I say I am sorry about changing the P1, - I just noticed it has very nice Track-ID, first time in my life I used it. It worked just right away, I am very impressed.
I loved a song I heard on the Danmark radio (outside my country) just now in my headphones and I got the name and song directly to my P1.
Wow, so cool... This is very cool...!!!!
