the only problem with alienware is the price tag on a not all that amazing spec you can build your self one for around 2/3 of the price say u buy an Alienware with 4gbDDR2 high speed ram with all the nice extras say quad core CPU SLI 1GB with blu-ray you can prob build that for around £3k n buy it from alien for about £4k but yeah id love to own the SLI laptop

What are you using to run OSX on a custom built machine? VMWare, PearPC? You can't run OSX on a PC without a considerable amount of messing about!

Do you need any additional software?

well there is a couple of things you can do to make it smother like add the logo at the start for each one of them and then you could select which one you want to boot into but that takes soo much time to do and is allways buggy and you could also patch the kenal but it not worth it

I downloaded a build or beta version (worked for some people) of leopard . . Well it uses only fat32 and luckily i found a old hdd with fat partitions, my pc specs were alright- it started the install and simply hanged- worked on some dvde's pc (lower config). Thus i'll wait for apple to release the final version

Posted by Cycovision
Unfortunately I don't have any decent working Intel machines to play with at the moment but I'll definitely give it a try when I do. Thanks for the tip

And before somebody says 'Why not just buy a mac', I already have one! It's a technical challenge that I want to know more about, that's all

Aaaaah! I was wondering how you got round apple's hardware check!

That's why I asked about additional software. I tried hacked versions of OSX before with no joy. Looks like I'll have to try the newer versions when I get an Intel in next...

I kind of gave up and forgot about it until now

Who's the newbie? Well i don't brag so don't need to justify

all my partitions are ntfs saving one which has just enough space for leopard- ntfs write is still in testing so don't expect that from apple. I will install it sometime though for kicks and then kick it out.

@cyco

You dont need an Intel machine to run a hacked OS X. It runs just fine on amd if you dl an image which has been modded to run on both intel and amd, which is basically most of them.

Posted by Cycovision
Well, I must have very bad luck when it comes to downloading images then All of the ones I tried in the past would only run under PearPC!

Like I said though, I haven't tried it for a long time. Might have a go today

I had OS X on my siemens PC, no issues at all.. but it wasn't a custom made PC......

Is the OSX86 project still not going?
