Why having more than one mobile phone ?

I remember the old days when the mobile phone made his appearance here in Belgium. You could see lot of people with 2, 3 sometimes more mobile phones. This had usually to do with the telecom prices (1 phone per network), office and private device, but also... for the show.

Now with the evolution I'm really curious to know why do some people (maybe you) still have more than one mobile phone.

I'm using a P990 at the moment and have my old P910 in his box waiting to be put for sale on Ebay. I really don't see why I should keep that phone as I don't use it anymore.

Well in my case I use one phone for work (N70 - switched off after hours) and another for my private life (wife, friends etc) .The one sim is subsidized while the other obviously isn't.

Here at my END, we have 3 active local networks . . . the latest of which made a very attractive-nice PROMO, they are giving away FREE - SMS and there are TIME that you can USE it to make FREE calls, provided you have to USE it with the same - network. When this promo was launched YEARS past with this NEW-local network, you can SEE almost everywhere that people starting to USE: 2 mobile phones . . .

It's just a matter of HOW many active SIMcards you have . . . that's why others TEND to own: 2 or 3 fones.

i'm probably one of those belgians who use 2 phones, once had 3 for a few weeks.
like you said, one is cheaper for calling, other one for test and internet.
but these days prices for calling and texting are about the same, and edge on base is the only thing thats cheap enough. (but i use 2 of the vitual operators).
2 phones are handy from time to time, incase one of the networks should fail (then why do mine use the same network :s ), and some use it for the wife and famely and the other for work/dates

Ive a PAYG Mobile world sim card which allows me low cost international calls so I need a phone for that incase i loose the sim (Moto V220)

main phone is 007 K800i (Contract)
the backs are so impossible to get off at times another reason to have a second phone

I've never used two phones at the same time... and this because I've never had the need. But I can understand people who really need or want that.

I recall all my brothers in law and sisters had 2 or 3 phones in the past, and my old Ericsson AS2812 didn't allow me to have more than 1 number per contact. I had one name 3 times and had to remember which number was used at what time of the day... a real nightmare when I had to call them.

Phone in each trouser pocket on week days because of work. It's a laugh when both phones go off at the same time. :-)

Got 2 phones as well, one contract and one prepaid. Pre-paid is mostly for international calls and private use. The contract one is for business use.

Hi all,
I nearly always have two phones on 2 networks as Mobile Data is a passion of mine and i like to compare performance of both Networks and devices. Also one phone is always a data centric device the other a high end or luxury phone. As sometimes when going out and don't need to do much besides calls Calender and possibly a bit of E-mail a small luxury phone is just convenient to have.

I use the p990 durring the day for work, and when i go out at night i switch to the k800 just because its smaller.

I use to keep 2 mobiles but felt too bulky to have at the same time, now just have my p990i and does the job, converted mrs to use rather than a blokia and she has the w850i.

I don't need two or more mobile phones, I'm satisfied with my T68i (since the end of May 2002).

At home I have Ericsson GH 174, but I bought it several years ago just for fun to remember good old days. It cost almost nothing: ca 0,06 EUR, but I had to sign a contract (for a very short time).

PS. SE T100 in this picture is not mine.

Great to see you using the t68i still, lovely phone.

I've been using two phones for a majority of time. One is always on with a sim from another country usually the slim Vk phone. The other is on a Contract. Its always usefull to have two phones as most the times when it comes to the evening the primary phone's battery is dead, hence the second phone comes in handy.

I know very well that they've made that choice. What I'm curious about is the reason behind that choice.
Everybody who replied has understood.

Owning two or more phones makes sense to some people for various reasons. Mine are: one phone is my "normal phone". Everybody can contact me at this phone number. It also gives me a lot of fun (good pictures, full music). I'm talking about my super W810.

My second phone is for... you know...those matters I want to be "invisible" for most of the people except for someones... like my other girlfriend...haha. This is the phone I use when I am behaving "bad"...It looks pretty cool and gives me fun, too. This is my Moto Rokr E2.

Normally I have these two phones with me at the same time. Just set the "silence" profile to avoid unwanted rings...

Finally, another kind of phone. The one you don't see at every cormer (because it's price, style, whatever...). When I go to a party, to a disco, to a night meeting with some friends I take my Samsung X820, I dress on black and go for a good time...

I have two phones

1. A P990i which now it has been re-flashed by SEunlock is fast becoming an indispensable business tool!

2. is an T610i used for calling cabs on beery nights out!

Why?
My P990is a bit big when wearing casual clobber or casual suits plus the bloody thing never stops ringing or downloading email which I then feel cant leave without feeling obliged to answer (My job covers multiple time zones!)
So I use my trusty old T610i on nights out, it is due for upgrade either a W950 or the new walkman 800 something both are slim and play better music than London mini cab drivers at night!!!!!

I have second mobile phone I use sometime. Why? Just because it's the world's smallest phone! Zanco Tiny T1, weighs only 13 grams and it's really tiny. I discovered it in the web by accident, started to think about it and finally got it myself PS. It's quad band GSM phone.
