Any details of firmware updates for these phones?

Also will the online update be available?

My K608i is R2L002 bugs:

1. If you clear your email inbox with send and receive and there is no mail to receive the phone seems to hang until you press cancel.

2. If you assign the right soft button it resets to the default profile selection after power on and off.

3. Font seems excessively large when typing SMS/MMS, yet is normal sized on received messages.

Well, there is another annoying bug on K600i and it has to do with upstream picture frame rate during a video call. Neither of the cameras, front or back, take any more frames per second during a video call no matter which setting for videotelephony picture quality you choose(sharp, normal or smooth), it`s always the same, that is of sufficient quality but there is no actual way to encrease the frame rate(because of the firmware bug) like it is possible to do on Z800i where at least the difference between settings smooth and sharp/normal is visible on the receiver`s end(smooth on Z800i is actually very smooth, it is even possible to read from person`s lips). That said, the decoding part of the video on K600i works great and the picture is of very good quality indeed and very smooth too, but only if you are talking to someone with a phone that encodes the picture in good quality and with good frame rate, for example: Z800i(with smooth setting), Nokia 6680(with upgraded firmware and in good light conditions), Motorola A1000,... BUT NOT another K600i!

The question is will we see firmware updates via SE online update?

Posted by judge
K600i reboots when receiving large emails - I think just about anything over 250kb-300kb will reset the phone. Please confirm if this happens to your phones as well.

P.S. It fully reboots and returns to operational stage without asking the pin...

There is another bug with BT headsets. The phone causes the headset to disconnect when in stand by. This happens with all BT headsets. I wrote to Sony Ericsson regarding these problems yesterday and I am really curious how quickly they might reply.

Posted by judge
@fifi24: I wrote them too. In respect to your problem - check if the power save option for BT is not activated in your K600. maybe this is why it disconnects.

Well, I got a reply from their Customer Care. They told me to contact authorised service in Slovenia (Svema) and didn`t provide any useful information. The Sony Ericsson service in Slovenia is terrible and useless so this case for me is closed. Judge, you obviously have more luck getting answers from Sony Ericsson support, try asking them about other bugs and possible firmware fixes. Sony Ericsson Z800i model has been on sale for over six months here in Slovenia, yet Svema still has no firmware updates for that phone and I fear the same will happen with k600i.

had k600, one of the most irritating bug is the continualy disappering of the shortcuts set at the joy when i turned off the fone.

Posted by MrZippy
When using 'Clear Inbox' with Send & Receive the phone will hang at receiving if there are no new mails, you have to click cancel to drop back to the email page.

Problem with the golf game, try starting a quick play and the phone hags, now after several attempts to do this, the game hangs every time no matter which option I choose.

Posted by BobaFett
guess k6 and the "clones" of it has got way too much bugs...

My K600 is switching off on its own about 3x/day. When i upload a wallpaper photo and try to immediately set it as the wallpaper the phone tells me the wallpaper had changed when it actually hasn't. The right side button functions even when the keypad is locked. But it's only the first thing that totally pisses me off.

BTW: it's my 3rd SE after T100 and K500 and all of them had the same automatic switch-off problem. I had been lucky with the T100 as i got it replaced, but by the time I bought the K500, Mobitel(service operator) and Svema (i live in Slovenia) got tougher with replacing malfunctioning phones, and now they simply tell me that they don't see any malfunctions, and that's it. You have to be crazy to buy a SE in Slovenia, because it most probably won't work right and you can forget about customer service (svema d.o.o.) . They'll most probably just laugh off their dirty rotten asses. I wonder if people who buy Nokia have as much trouble with their phones.

There's a new link on the Sony Ericsson support pages in the UK today for a software update service. It doesn't work yet and I check with their support and they said that it will be active soon with a new firmware version for the V600i.

Nice bugs, models being used and firmware that it happens on would be useful. Just ordered a sim free k600 first return to se since my f500.

Lets hope 3-uk offer updates for this phone!

Posted by BobaFett
unfortunately "3" fw can be upgreaded only by "3" itself. according my experiences with "3", they dont take much care of upgrades.

i am in austria, maybe its diffrenet in the uk, donnow. but its weird, that 3 send every single fone ( doesnt matter whta barnd ) to vienna, no local service for simple upgrades.

Posted by mob453
It's been shipped, brand new and sim free. I'll post the firmware version when i get it.

Well, there are now USB flash drivers on the Sony Ericsson site for the K600i/K608i/V600i to use with the Sony Ericsson update service, but no sign of a firmware update as of yet. On the instructions it says to turn your phone off, hold down the c key and insert the USB cable and Windows will detect your phone to allow you to install the drivers, but this didn't work for me. Turn off the phone. hold down the c key, insert the USB cable and then turn the power on while holding down the c key made windows detect the phone as a USb flash device so I could install the drivers.

This is also for me

I got that far, cant see any firmware yet though.

Just checking this. Current firmware is r2f015

Posted by Jezza21
There doesn't seem to be any new firmware yet, although the drivers for the update service are available.

What is the latest firmware for unbranded K600? Mine showed R2G.

Posted by uukk
Good question...

Hi all, new here- Ü

Was the K600 taken down from SEUS? A few days back I had this link to a certain driver; when I checked back a while ago, the original link from the 'All K600 support' page is nowhere to find, and when you click on the K600 from Visit the Sony Ericsson Update Service, it just takes you back to all K600 support. weird..

In any case, does anyone here have newer firmware than R2G001/prgCXC1250014_EU_1_MI? There's so much to fix in this thing- but what I'd really like to see improve is performance, especially when texting, the phone can't seem to keep up like my old K700/R2AY004 did

and fix that half-assed Airplane theme, for crying out loud

Expanded Sony Ericsson software update service

The Sony Ericsson software update service now covers 12 phones, including the recently introduced K750, W800, K600 and Z520 mobile phones.

This on-line service enables you to update your Sony Ericsson mobile phone with the latest product software whenever it becomes available.

A wizard guides you through the product update process, installing a client application on your computer and preparing your mobile phone for the software download.

@ kabukijep-I've got the same problem, but with the V600i. I tried the link Uukk posted but each time I select the V600i, K600i or K608i it just takes me to the general product support page for each phone. If I select the K750i it takes me to the update service for it though. I thought it might be my browser (Opera) but I get the same thing in Internet Explorer. Either the update service for these phones isn't working or they haven't made any new firmware available yet.

Server busy, too many users. Please try again later!

interesting, finally switched to my k600i from my 6630. Easy to use, simple, and small enough to fit in your pocket.

Noticed that if you post by WAP that esato does not recognise the handset, you just get "posted by WAP Device".

Just bought the K600. Great phone, only complain the crappy keyboard.
It has the R2G firmware and unfortunately there is no option to enable the phone to lock on 2,5G network (something that exists on V600).
Does anyone know if the latest firmware (R2J) has that option?

Has anyone else noticed that the SEUS site seemed to have had the K600 service up a little while back (about 5 or 6 am +8 GMT)? I got to save the link, and it's still live if you check it out here- even the link to the UpdateService_Inst_2.2.10 client is still live. When I checked back just a few mins ago I didn't see the update service link in the K600 support main page anymore- weird.. I got to install the client but when I try to run it, I get "Server busy, too many users. Please try again later!" Catching SEUS up is so hard to come by these days jeez

Unfortunately no SW for my K600i EU5.

anyone know if it fixes the ringtone volume on the v600i?

Posted by Jezza21
There doesn't seem to be an update for the V600i yet. I just tried it on both mine and my wife's phones and it said the latest released software was installed. The software we have is R2K005. If anyone else has anything later than this, I'd be interested to know.....

One other thing. Once you start the update service it asks you to click on an icon that corresponds to how the bottom of your phone looks. If you click on the one that looks like the V600 it just says desktop stand not detected. Click on the other one (the one that doesn't correspond to the V600!), follow the instructions and it seems to work. At least I then got the message saying I have the latest firmware.

I can't get past the 'remove SIM card.......press and hold 'C' and attach USB cable' part of the update.
I never see an option to click past this.
I am using the cable supplied with my K600i. Shaped like a mini-USB it plugs into side of fone.
Any advice?

Posted by kabukijep
I dont think you can use the USB cable to update via SEUS II (it takes either the K750/W800 cable or a DSS-25 stand)- tho there was this one time they had USB cable drivers that would let you use the included USB cable to update your FW available for download

I think you can use the USB cable, it's just not very clear how to do it. If you check out this link http://www.sonyericsson.com/s[....]s&lm=ps1_1&pid=10290&fid=21839 it talks about the USB flash drivers being installed by the program. What I found works for me is if while holding the c button and plugging in the USB cable I press the power button the SEUS seems to recognise the phone and check for updates. There doesn't seem to be one for the V600 though.

Jezza21:

I get the same thing if I try that way. says you have the latest installed.

btw, mine also has R2k005 installed

Posted by Jezza21
Thanks sgcu. I guess we'll just have to wait for an update.............

Posted by kabukijep
your reckon this will work with a normal K600i as well?

kabukijep-Give it a go, I don't see why it shouldnt work. My understanding is that the K600 and V600 are basically the same phone but with different branding.

I managed to update the flash drivers (but there were no yellow exclamation mark).

But when I start the program I just get the message saying that there is no flash stand connected.

When should I press the C-button and power button, have tried everything...

try to flash/upgrade your k6 using dss-25

Posted by Jezza21
uukk-Is that firmware for the V600 or K600? Are you in the Uk or somewhere else? Also, did you get the firmware from the update service? Just curious........

My phone is K600i EU5.
No I upgraded by total*** and now SEUS report "you have the last firmware" before only "error, contact Service".

Ciao
