6 January 2005 by axxxr UTStarcom Personal Communications (formerly Audiovox Communications,) today announced the CDM-180, a clamshell CDMA phone with a unique landscape oriented widescreen display. UTStarcom Personal Communications (formerly Audiovox Communications Corp.), a division of UTStarcom, Inc. The CDM-180 is a Java/Brew(TM) 2.0-enabled clamshell mobile phone with dual LCD display screens. The landscape oriented main screen is a 262K 1.8" TFT display; on the outside of the handset is a 262K 1.2 TFT sub display. The Tri-Mode (800/1900 MHz CDMA) handset measures 3.0" (H) x 2.1" (W) x 0.9" (D), and weighs 3.7 oz and features a built-in CMOS 330k pixel camera. The camera phone is equipped with the MSM 6050 Chipset and is GPSOne(TM) Capable (E911 Phase2 Supported), system dependent. In addition, the CDM-180 also features CMX 32 polyphonic ringers, LED incoming call indicator, and retractable antenna, as well as audio and video recording. It has two-way SMS/MMS/MS capabilities and a built-in speakerphone, along with being TTY/TDD compatible. "We believe the landscape-oriented screen is great for text messaging, photo and video applications," said Philip Christopher, president of UTStarcom Personal Communications Division. "Consumers are accustomed to a 'landscape view' on their TVs, PCs and traditional camera, so this format is a natural."
