UAProfile.com launches a service to search for phone capabilities

15 March 2006 by
UAProfile is the machine readable description of a mobile phone capability and the company Mobile Phone Wizards has now launched a service that let you search their database with over 2300 profiles.

There are thousands of handset types and browsers in use worldwide. Targeting these devices with appropriately optimized markup and content is a real problem, but also a real necessity in a competitive world. User experience is everything, and the presentation of your content is paramount.

Mobile Phone Wizards AS today announces a new resource for those interested in tackling the challenge of multiple device content management.

UAProfile.com is the first initiative by Mobile Phone Wizards AS that will revolutionise searching for handset capability data.

UAProfile.com is a search engine that actively collects UAProfiles and indexes them so that the data on handset capabilities, such as mp3 support, accept filetypes, screen sizes, markup languages, etc, can be instantly searched. As soon as a new UAProfile is detected by the underlying "Mobile Phone Wizard" system, it is instantly available. The system contains over 2300 UAProfiles, over 6 times larger than the current leading source of UAProfiles.

UAProfilesUAProfile.com is also the only site that enables you to analyse the contents of UAProfile fields, to answer questions such as "what are the most common screen sizes?", and perform tabulations on any field within a UAProfile.

UAProfiles are not a panacea for this problem (many older phones don't have them), but a searchable database of manufacturer data of handsets is a huge innovation for a development community used to having to fight for every bit of data it can get.
