16 September 2011 by
Google introduces British English, French Italian, German and Spanish to available languages for Androids Voice Actions.

Google Voice Actions available in five new countries

Voice Actions is a little more than just voice commands. It is not only a few commands to control the phone. Entire messages can be now be written without touching the phone after activating the voice search app.

The update comes more than a year after the first release of the feature were it initially only supported the U.S English language.

Voice Actions is integrated with many of Googles other applications. A command such as map of fuel stations in Leeds will open Google Maps and plot in all fuel stations Google has listed in Leeds.

In addition to general speech to text translation the Voice Action supports the following commands:

  • Send text to [contact] [message]
  • listen to [artist/song/album]
  • call [business]
  • call [contact]
  • send email to [contact] [message]
  • go to [website]
  • note to self [note]
  • navigate to [location/business name]
  • directions to [location/business name]
  • map of [location]
  • search [phrase]

The Voice Actions can be downloaded from Android Market where it is named Voice Search and it will run on mobile phones running Android version 2.2 Froyo and up.
