Chances are, if you have been downloading your music legally, you have been doing so through an American-based company's program or website. Apple iTunes, Walmart Music, MusicMatch, and Napster are names we hear often when it comes to getting your digital music online. The great thing about these music stores is that you get instant gratification - pay for your music and download it within seconds.
Gearlive analyzes AllofMP3.com a russian based site that legally offers music downloads for $0.01 per megabyte. To good to be true, read Gearlive's article for the details.

hmmmm...really? why haven't i thought about this? now, come on....i will never pay 20 to 25 euro for a legal cd or 25 to 35 euro for a dvd. why do you think that all these underground stuff has been born? because the companies are ripping our guts off with these prices. why don't they reduce the price to an acceptable and fair price? 5 euro per cd and 10 euro per dvd would be fair...

I only buy music of up and coming new talent or musicians/groups that have made an incredible impact on me. Like I would pay full price for 2 or 3 songs...hardly worth it! Kazaa lite rocks on...

okay, its $10 for 1gig of downloads. This is £5.64 as ive just paid for a gig via paypal.
Gonna go see what they have available and how much i can download.
And even if it was the whole 650meg thing for one album, £5.64 is damn cheap.

Okay, a quick update. I've just ordered and processed Faithless - No roots, as mp3, 320kbps, so CD quality. Its 120ish megabytes, so its cost me just over a dollar
Definatly worth it knowing i've gotten it legal, no doubt quicker than and illegal p2p, and i know all my songs will be in working order (not corrupt or badly named)

It's good to know that it's good quality, however I'd rather save my money for something better...like buying the k700 when it comes out

I bought 500 Mb's for 5$ and downloaded 3 songs; I have 4,846$ left...
This is cool, but it is frightening at the same time. Has anyone read this?
From GearLive.com:
So it sounds great, but what's the catch? Well, AllOfMP3.com is a Russian-based site meant for the people of Russia. Russia's copyright laws are different than those outside of Russia, which allows them to sell music the way they do. My guess is that the RIAA will soon be trying to shut AllofMP3.com down, but they may not be able to. After all, it's a legitimate Russian business. What may happen instead is that the English version of the site could be taken down, leaving only those that read Russian the option of downloading from the service.
Until then, get it while you can.
(Also, a guy wrote this at the comments section: My uncle works for the RIAA; trust me, they have a plan to shut them down. Enjoy it while you can.)
From AllOfMP3.com:
All the materials in the MediaServices projects are available for distribution through Internet according to license # LS-3Ì-03-79 of the Russian Multimedia and Internet Society. Under the license terms, MediaServices pays license fees for all the materials subject to the Law of the Russian Federation "On Copyright and Related Rights". All the materials are available solely for personal use and must not be used for further distribution, resale or broadcasting.
Users are responsible for the usage and distribution of the materials of Allofmp3.com. This responsibility depends on the local legislation of the country of residence. Allofmp3.com's Administration doesn't chases the legislations of different countries and is not responsible to the non-Russian users.
I hope I can finish my 4,846$ till then!.. |

I know that AllOfMP3.com is online for a long time but how many years old was Napster when it was shut off? (I have no idea about the question I just asked, I really would like to learn the answer!..) |

Napster was around for a while but the laws back then didn't regulate that type of activity...which is a different story in this case...
