Lifespan Of An Ordinary Celfone ? |

I was just wondering if it is really worth buying a brand new top-of-the-line celfone? Say, as in the case of SE, is it worth doling out about US$850.00 in buying a new SE P900 - one? How long owuld an ordinary celfone last - regradless of it's price. Is it worth buying a celfone rather than buying any other electronic gadget, say, a portable DVD player which has almost the same price? As to my experience, I guess a regular celfone would last only for about 5 years . . . any other ideas? Thanks !

My mum's had her 5110 now for about that 5 years - and it's still going strong! Battery still lasts best part of a week, and (touchwood!) it still works perfectly. I've also got a couple of old GA628s which I got of Ebay for literally a couple of pounds each, and they still work perfectly too.
I don't know whether all the modern camera phones will last for as long though. I suspect the manufacturers (but hopefully not ) make sure the phone works for the first year or two a customer's tied to a contract, then they go wrong so that customers have to either buy a new one or take out a new 1 or 2 year contract to get a new handset.

The phones have a long life if you threat them well. But sometimes it seems like the manufacture mean that you shouldnt use it if you want to threat it well.

if your basic usage is just voice calls & sms...you can still use your old /// & nokia 5110.
but if you're on technology, give the new phones a 1 yr to depreciate its features |

I had a Nokia 2190 that would probably still be working, if it hadn't been for the large size, the antenna would be still intact. |

well, currently i'm using an old nokia 6150, still going strong... it's my phone while i wait for the k700 unit to arrive here in our shores.
It got bumps, replacement keypads and other dirt in it and it is still a workhorse!

I'd say 3-5 yrs. Anyways, it mostly depends on the user too. Nonetheless, for any good quality gadget, such as an SE phone, unless you're buying it for no reason then I can widely consider that worth shelling out $$$ for. |

So, it is quite safe to calculate here that 5 years would just be the average celfone lifespan . . . |

They will last as long as my contract allows me to get a free upgrade.
SL55 lasted 3 months only before upgrade it was too small, so network provider changed it for T610, I changed T610 to P900 after 9 months. Gave my mate T610 and it's still going strong.
If i had to pay for these phones sim free i would still be on j5

@bobafett - Yup! Accessories' availability in the market also counts! The bad news with the present trend is that dealers tend only to sell parts which have a big sale turnout, /saleable ones, mostly, they are that of the recent/current models. I manage to see some batt's (original) being sold more expensive compared to that of the latest fone model's acc's . . . quite an irony? |

I think the life span is as the warranty says, 1 year. After that, it may die on u ar the spare-parts cost a lot so better get a new one. This is merchandise movement on the market... gotta play along

i think that, like everything else, they don't build them like they used to. many older cellphones are still going strong as long as you can maintain a good battery, while newer ones seem less robust.

I agree with the previous comments cellphones will generally go on forever if you treat them right - however mine lasts as long as the latest newest gadget appears on the market and untill i can get a free upgrade to it - bar far the best way
Why keep using old technology when you don't have to |
