MobilBurn's first look at the Nokia 3220 can be viewed here.

With the new 3220, Nokia has potentially started a new light effects craze for mobile phones. Not only does the 3220 have lights that blink and pulse along with your games or ringtones, but it has a special array of LEDs on the back of its Xpress-on cover that can be used to write words in the air as you wave the phone back and forth.

It is a bit difficult to explain what we mean, so check out Nokia's official 3220 site and click on "Wave Messaging" to see a demo.

The 3220 also has new Xpress-on Grips that you can change. The grips house the lights on the sides of the phone that can be configured to flash different patterns and colors to signify different events, such as an incoming text message.

Another novel feature of the 3220 is its ability to be used as a joystick, of sorts. The 3220 has a device built-in that can determine how you are moving or turning the phone, and with that information can interact with supported "motion" games in the phone. Two such games are included: SwampRacer and AirExpress. Hopefully Nokia will soon add this kind of functionality for the normal user interface in future handsets.

The 3220 is expected to start shipping in Q3 of this year, and will have an unsubsidized/non-contract price of about 250EUR/US$300.
