I was trying to download a wav file to be used as a ringtone. Then it says... RIFF. What does it mean?

RIFF stands for Resource Interchange File Format

RIFF - Microsoft's equivalent to the Amiga's IFF files format. RIFF is used for WAV and AVI files

(from http://computing-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/RIFF )

RIFF (Resource Interchange File Format)
A file format for multimedia data on PCs; can contain bitmapped graphics, animation, digital audio, and MIDI files

(from http://www.uic.edu/depts/accc/inform/v106o.html#p01h218 )

@gelfen, thanks for taking time to answer my question.
got another problem here though... since i cannot download the said file directly to my phone, i tried to download it first to my PC and i was successful, but when i tried to send it to my phone via infra red, a system error again flashed from the phone...
is there something we can do about it? ...

what type of phone? non-symbian phones will not accept wavs (only midis and proprietary file types, or amr and imy). i don't think any phone will accept a riff, but i'm willing to be corrected on that.

try opening it on a pc and see if you can save it as something else. otherwise you will need some kind of converter i'm guessing. i don't know that much about riffs.

If your PC open riff and you can't save it to wav you can run record it via sound recorder.
