amr is the format of your records with the sound record

amr is the default ringtone format used by  on their polyphonic phones (although most are still compatible with midi format as well).
EDIT: no it's not - got confused with imy, as the ballbreakers below will attest.
sheesh, one tiny mistake and all of a sudden it's "we hate you" , "you're a dumb sh1t", "blasphemous dog, we will cut out your tongue!"
show some tolerance people - where's the love? 
ok so now i'm over-reacting. just ignore me please. i think i'll go for a quiet lie down in the small padded room
  
not sure what format(s) the other brands use.

WTF??? Our phones don't use amr as the ringtones. If they did, then we could use recordings as ringers!

Sorry m8 u got that a bit wrong. .imy is the se default ringtone ;-) .amr is the format that the built in sound recorder, records in :-)
