BMW Bluetooth Functionality |

I've searched high and wide on this forum for answers but can't seem to find what I am looking for.
For all of you BMW Bluetooth users, I installed the BMW Kit in my M3 recently and overall things are quite good with my T616; contacts sync, dialing from steering controls works great, top 8 dialed list displays, etc. Overall I'm pleased. Some questions I have wrt to functionality:
1. Is it possible to sync only a subset of contacst to the BMW kit. I'm getting them all and they are too many to scroll with the steering controls in a timely manner. Perhaps an alternative it to have steering controls work only the top 8 calling list vs the whole directory - is that possible?
2. The BMW kit comes with its own voice recognition unit. However, I've spent some time setting up voice control on the T616 and would like to use its voice control rather that the BMW - the way that a Jabra BT headset works were you push the button and the phone prompts you to voice dial. Anyway to do that with the BMW kit?
3. I've noticed that the response time on the phone is very slow when connected to the BMW. I have older firmware on the T616 (R1A from AT&T I think) and I wonder if a firmware update would help. Anyone experience something like this? Of course the problem may be everytime the phone connects it syncs the entire contact database which takes time (more time than my commute it would seem).
Thanks for you help,

sorry don't have a BMW (lucky you!) so can't help much with the kit and stuff but for question 3, the answer is a definite YES!
Actual firmware version is R4 something.
There was a big improvement from R1A to R1L already so if your phone is branded then check with them which firmware version is available. maybe the latest version won't be but it will still be at least R1L if it's not R3C.

Its probably worth my while then to do the firmware upgrade and I know there is an AT&T branded one available for my phone.
Question, can I do a firmware upgrade by downloading the firwmare and then transferring via bluetooth, or is a physical connection to the phone required?
Thanks,

i envy the person who considers their bluetooth enabled bmw an accessory for their phone.
with respect to the syncing issue, the easiest way might be to do the following (bear in mind i don't have the car kit - or the beemer ):
1. sync phone with outlook on pc
2. delete contacts you don't want in the car off the phone
3. clear existing contacts from car kit
4. sync phone with car.
5. re-sync phone with outlook to regain all contacts.
it might be a bit time-consuming, but it's straightforward.

the simplest way to only get the contacts you want is to assign them to a certain category.. like "sync".. then in the sync software you add a text filter.. |

Hi, saw your posts and had a question myself...
I have a 2003 BMW 5-series. I understand they are "prepped" for bluetooth hands-free, and just really require some very small hardware additions. How much does this cost. I am currently stationed in Germany with the US Army. I called the dealer, and he said 1500 euros. This doesn't sound quite right.
Also, he said that a bluetooth kit installed at the dealer in Germany will not work in the US. Again it doesn't make any sense, but that's what they said.
Can anyone shed light on this for me? |
