On my friend's se phone (can't remember which model, sorry) he gets a word on his standby screen below the Vodafone New Zealand logo saying which transmitter he is mech. For example if he's in Auckland, his display reads 'vodafone NZ Auckland cbd'. Anyone know what i'm talking about and if this is available on my t68i? Thanks. Sorry i'm confusing my english is not great.

it could be the network cell broadcast function. supported by almost all the current phone. Go to phone menu message > area info > check on the reception and cell information > add message list. While you need to know what the codes stand for. Ask the operator first. |

Messages -> Area info -> Cell information
Set this option to "on" and you will see current cellinformation in the display (if your network provider support this feature) |

not really... if you are lost you can get a hinge of where you are otherwise it's not much of use for it |

But its just nice to know. Here in the Netherlands is use less, we only see the current district number, but during my stay in Australia it worked perfect, every tiny place had his own name, and in the big cities you even got the streetname where you walked at that moment (or a street nearby), verry usefull for us Tourists....(one hand a map, the other hand a Phone)

yeah.. noticed that too when I was to Australia two years ago, quite neat thing when you visit a country you are not familiar with here in Sweden no provider uses cell information. |

Ah yes thank you! I live in england normally and always wondered what that was for, dont think many if any uk operators use it. But yeah, vodafone oz use it, got it on now, cos i'm a purist geek. Thanks everyone.

and yes i did look in the manual. it's about as useful as hip-pockets on a singlet.

In Denmark the cell info is accurate +-100 meters in the centre of Copenhagen at least. I think itīs pretty neat!

Gelfen, as far as i remember, they are an old thing that operator's were going to use or used to use for service updates, news and information etc. I seen to remember reading this in my manual for my siemens s8. Probably not used any more or never used. Thats my guess :-)

It consumes more battery. thats what i observed. so in same city, i found it useless. but is useful while roaming. i generally keep it off.

Could you imagine what it would say in the uk, if it told you what street you were on. It would say something like 02-uk your phone is about to be nicked
