Eldar has made his 6230 review at mobile-review

in summary, a fairly good phone similar to 6610 and 6220 BUT

  • likely to be over-priced
  • slightly disappointing screen quality compared with Korean brands
  • disappointing camera for VGA resolution
  • no picture caller id........and my personal favourite
  • must dismantle the phone to change MMC (a la n-gage)

as i've said before, specs alone do not a cell phone make

the good thing is that other manufacturers are going to pick up on the 6230 spec level during 2004, and doubtless the "big-n" will make revised versions.

"..and portrait mode (80x96 pixels), the pictures are stored in JPEG format. When viewing pictures on phone’s screen the quality is awful, however, after transferred to PC they are slightly better, but still not as good as expected." This i don`t get: the super-duper-hype phone of nokia has this kind of problem with a VGA camera and a tft 65k?! At 500-600$?! That`s crap...

PS: Portrait mode means shit; when some` calls u, the pic is so small that`s u can`t see who`s callingg (tried on a 7650).

IMHO unforgivable in a cameraphone

@ghostmec: As i said above, the contact pic is so small thats u r unable to see whos calling!
IMO, the 6230 beats the T630 hands down but remember, its not the same class for these phones.

@701 I was refering to gelfen's post where he said it had no picture caller ID.

Thanks for your feedback, I will still wait to try, always try before you buy

Although these phones are not in same class, they are both candybar camera phones with bluetooth and thats why I am mesuring them against each other.

admittedly i was surprised that Eldar reported no picture caller id given the spec level of the phone, but i was only reporting what was in the review. perhaps the review was of a pre-production model and so not all software capability was installed (?). i probably should have checked the nokia site, but at the time i was fairly busy. happy to be corrected though.

still, the mmc changeout design is poor darts IMO.

Your right there, nothing like taking out the battery to help speed up changing cards, puts you off changing often as all that taking of the cover produces wear and tear.

To really use it as an mp3 player I would want a bigger card too. I hear rumours of it accepting bigger cards but not sure what size.

Is the Mp3 player built in or do you have to buy it separately???

Does any one know how much it will cost in the UK?

hehehe! I'm just so happy after reading it

"The phone cannot be called light, its weight is concentrated in the phone’s small shape, you can actually feel it. Perhaps the fact that the phone is not balanced, upper part (where the speaker is located) is hollow, meanwhile starting from the speaker the mass increases, is the one to blame."

"The phone has inborn defects as well, they will not be fixed with time, one of them is the squeaky panels, their overall disorder. "

"The interface's problems will not be fixed in the nearest future, that's why you should keep this in mind in case you are looking forward buying this model. The low recording speed to MMC card is a disadvantage as well. ."

Hi all!

I bought an 6230 to my father last week, after checking the market I regard it as the best phone right now(my father dosen't need an smartphone).

And yes the menu-system realy crappy, and I didn't like the keypad, but no other phone can offer the same functionality, I tried to make him wait for the K700 but when he heard it lacked ability to use mem-card I don't think he would choose a K700 even if it was avaible .

This is the first time after the r520 launch I recommended someone to buy something else than ericsson (and funny enough he was replacing his r520:) ).

I'm hoping for an K700i with SD-capability! but I guess that if it gets any memcard it will be an memstick (and its an outrage that the z1010 can't use memstick pro!).

Thats my 2 cents,
