First of all: WELCOME TO ESATO! Have fun and enjoy your stay.

EMMA is the computer server from which local service centers download the latest firmwares and fixes. Only local service centers are authorized to access the server (and it's only them who got the hardware to upload the firmware to your phone)

So all i need is this new software updated to my phone? Umm what exactly is involved in the process, just new firmware? I want to call the service center and tell them to do this but not sure how to say it. I have R3B and my phone is 02W09 if that makes a difference

just say you have problem with the standby time, that it doesn't go over 70hours standby (no matter which battery you use) and they hopefully will know what it's about

I also recently upgraded to a t39 with orange and my battery life never shows more than 75 hours standby. Orange have also swapped the phone+batt+charger and I still have exactly the same standby.

It doesn't appear to be affected by signal as even when I tried it with a full signal strength left on charge overnight making no calls the phone still showed 75 hours standby on a full charge.

Bluetooth/Infra red/background/gprs/backlight off - sleep on still 75h max.

I also tried swapping the batteries with a T29 user (which is rated at only 100 hours standby a third of the T39) but the phones were within 1 hour of each other with both batteries. This certainly suggests that there is a problem with a number of T39s unless it is the orange sim card that is the problem.

There are some suggestions on the internet of a problem manufacturing week 10 (mine is week 9 02W09 under the battery).

There are also some suggestions on the internet that some firmwares apparently can cause problems. You can get to a hidden service menu by pressing >*<<*<* from here my phone shows

service info-> sw information

Apparently R4A008 is the latest firmware.

If you find a solution I would be interested to hear as I may be sending mine back again.

sgreenbank....

so far I have only seen T39 manufactured in week 10 with the standbyproblem... but since your was manufactured in week 9 you probably have the same error... leave it to a servicepoint and they'll fix it in 10minutes....

batt standby is also network dependent usually when signal flactuates, voice calls and sms in my case my batt lasts only up to 2 days because of gprs :-]

Thanks Cytech.

I might well try this if I can find a service centre ...

Since the battery life is approximately OK if I put it in a T29, I presume the cpu (or some other component) is probably remaining active.

Not back light,Bluetooth or infra red as all these in the given order noticebly reduce the standby time when you turn them on.

Ericsson told me they would check the phone but it would take 10 days! ( not 10 minutes )

Orange are sending another new phone - I'll let you know if this one works - or not.

The battery problem seems to occur with 02w08 to 02w10 with R3B006

One guy apparently tried all the new phones at the shop - most of them had a problem!

Hey all,

I did that hidden service menu shortcut sgreenbank told of, and guess what...

Dunno what to do about it. Ericsson told me I would be without my handset for at least 10 days, and I'm not too keen getting a replacement from Orange - they said I could claim through Care, which means a reconditioned handset

Does this "problem" with the battery life only affect the estimate, or is the actual amount of time the phone can be used for affected??

It doesn't matter which software version there is in the phone, could be R4A008 but still have the standbyproblem. It's the production date you should look at (02w08 - 02w10)

For Matt (Allione)

My phones definitely indicate a pretty accurate standby time (75 hours). This was one of the first things I checked - followed by testing against a T29 that is reportedly only capable of 100 hours.

I've phoned home and the new T39 (number 3) has arrived - apparently it is 02W10 - so I'm not too hopeful.

I'll post an update tonight or in the morning.

Does anyone know how many service centres there are in the UK?
