right
go to "Start->Accessories->Communication->Hyper Terminal"
choose any name for connection
open connection on COM1 (or whatever COM your phone is connected on)

type "AT"
if you get answer - you are OK
if you don't, or you can't write anything, -the connection could not be established
If I had all the answers, I wouldn't have any questions.

Go to your control panel, then system, then device manager and look under ports, is your cable showing up as being in one of the ports?
And if so what port is it in?

are you sure it's the right cable?

the drs-11 and drs-10 look exactly the same, but the drs-10 won't work with the t610.

cheers,

Have you got the cable plugged into any port at the moment? Try all of the ports to see if it recognises anything on the computer

it is not detected in any of the com ports. the cable has no number on it, however, it does say t68/t39 on it, is this the correct cable? i was told that it is the t68 cable that is used for the t610? surely even if this is the wrong cable it would be picked up by my computer in one of the com ports and it just would not work with the phone?

no, your computer will not detect the cable if nothing is connected to it. as far as i recall there is no way to visibly tell the difference between a drs-10 and drs-11 cable. i have a drs-10 cable i used with my t39 and it worked fine. it does not work at all with my t610, though. instead i bought a bluetooth usb dongle, which is much cooler - now i don't have to bother with cables anymore.

sounds to me like you have the wrong cable. sorry about that.

Yours is a data cable that works with SE phones(maybe T610 is the exception but I doubt it).

By default you won't see anything you "type in". It will only give you a respons of "OK" if you type "AT". If you type "ATF" , then it will start echoing what you entered.

Did you try changing the COM port speed to 9600, or other available speeds? You can do that in HyperTerminal.
